Anas bin Malik said, that once a domestic sheep was milked for Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the house of Anas bin Malik. The milk was mixed with water drawn from the well in Anas's house. A tumbler of it was presented to Messenger of Allah ﷺ who drank from it. Then Abu Bakr was sitting on his left side and a bedouin on his right side. When the Prophet ﷺ removed the tumbler from his mouth, ʿUmar was afraid that the Prophet ﷺ might give it to the bedouin, so he said. "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Give it to Abu Bakr who is sitting by your side." But the Prophet ﷺ gave it to the bedouin, who was to his right and said, "You should start with the one on your right side."

أَنَّهَا حُلِبَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ شَاةٌ دَاجِنٌ وَهْىَ فِي دَارِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَشِيبَ لَبَنُهَا بِمَاءٍ مِنَ الْبِئْرِ الَّتِي فِي دَارِ أَنَسٍ فَأَعْطَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْقَدَحَ فَشَرِبَ مِنْهُ حَتَّى إِذَا نَزَعَ الْقَدَحَ مِنْ فِيهِ وَعَلَى يَسَارِهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ وَخَافَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهُ الأَعْرَابِيَّ أَعْطِ أَبَا بَكْرٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عِنْدَكَ فَأَعْطَاهُ الأَعْرَابِيَّ الَّذِي عَلَى يَمِينِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ الأَيْمَنَ فَالأَيْمَنَ

The Apostle of Allah (may peace he upon him) came to Medina when I was ten years old and he died when I was twenty years old. My mother exhorted me to serve him. He (the Holy Prophet) came to our house, and we ruined a flabby goat for him and mixed it (the milk) with water from the well of the house. Messenger of Allah ﷺ drank that. Umar and Abu Bakr on his left side said to him: Messenger of Allah, give it to Abu Bakr, but he (the Holy Prophet) gave it to the desert Arab who was on his right. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who is on the right, then he who is on the right.

قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ عَشْرٍ وَمَاتَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ عِشْرِينَ وَكُنَّ أُمَّهَاتِي يَحْثُثْنَنِي عَلَى خِدْمَتِهِ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا دَارَنَا فَحَلَبْنَا لَهُ مِنْ شَاةٍ دَاجِنٍ وَشِيبَ لَهُ مِنْ بِئْرٍ فِي الدَّارِ فَشَرِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْطِ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَأَعْطَاهُ أَعْرَابِيًّا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الأَيْمَنَ فَالأَيْمَنَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to our house and he asked for a drink. We milked a goat for him and then mixed it (the milk) with the water of this well of mine. I gave it to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he drank it, while Abu Bakr was on his left and 'Umar was in front of him, and a desert Arab was on his right. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished the drink, Umar said: Messenger of Allah, here is Abu Bakr, give him to drink; but Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave it to the desert Arab and he left out Abu Bakr and Umar. And Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Those on the right, those on the right, those on the right (deserve preference). Anas said: This is the Sunnah, this is the Sunnah, this is the Sunnah.

أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي دَارِنَا فَاسْتَسْقَى فَحَلَبْنَا لَهُ شَاةً ثُمَّ شُبْتُهُ مِنْ مَاءِ بِئْرِي هَذِهِ قَالَ فَأَعْطَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَشَرِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَعُمَرُ وُجَاهَهُ وَأَعْرَابِيٌّ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ شُرْبِهِ قَالَ عُمَرُ هَذَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يُرِيهِ إِيَّاهُ فَأَعْطَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الأَعْرَابِيَّ وَتَرَكَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الأَيْمَنُونَ الأَيْمَنُونَ الأَيْمَنُونَ قَالَ أَنَسٌ فَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ فَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ فَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in our house, and a jar was brought to him. They poured milk into it from the house's water, and then the Prophet ﷺ was given the jar to drink from, and Abu Bakr drank from his left side, and a Bedouin man drank from his right side. Omar said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, give Abu Bakr what you have, and I fear that the Bedouin will also be given." It is said that the Prophet ﷺ gave it to the Bedouin first, and then he said, "The right side, so the right side."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي دَارِنَا فَحُلِبَ لَهُ دَاجِنٌ فَشَابُوا لَبَنَهَا بِمَاءِ الدَّارِ ثُمَّ نَاوَلُوهُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَشَرِبَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَأَعْرَابِيٌّ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَعْطِ أَبَا بَكْرٍ عِنْدَكَ وَخَشِيَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهُ الْأَعْرَابِيَّقَالَ فَأَعْطَاهُ الْأَعْرَابِيَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْأَيْمَنَ فَالْأَيْمَنَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with Abu Bakr, Umar, and a group of Bedouins until he entered our house. A sheep was slaughtered for him and water from our well was poured for him. I thought he would say some words, but he drank the water and Abu Bakr was on his left, Umar was facing him, and a Bedouin was on his right. Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr!" So the Bedouin gave it to Abu Bakr, and the right-hand side people said, "He (Abu Bakr) should give it to us." Anas said, "So it became a Sunnah." It became a Sunnah.

انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُوَعُمَرُ وَنَاسٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ حَتَّى دَخَلَ دَارَنَا فَحُلِبَتْ لَهُ شَاةٌ وَشُنَّ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ مَاءِ بِئْرِنَا حَسِبْتُهُ قَالَ فَشَرِبَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَعُمَرُ مُسْتَقْبِلُهُ وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَأَعْطَاهُ الْأَعْرَابِيَّ وَقَالَ الْأَيْمَنُونَ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَنَا أَنَسٌ فَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ فَهِيَ سُنَّةٌ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Anas ibn Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought some milk which was mixed with well-water. There was a Bedouin at his right side and Abu Bakr as-Siddiq on his left. He drank and then gave it to the Bedouin and said, "The right-hand to the right-hand."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِلَبَنٍ قَدْ شِيبَ بِمَاءٍ مِنَ الْبِئْرِ وَعَنْ يَمِينِهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ أَعْطَى الأَعْرَابِيَّ وَقَالَ الأَيْمَنَ فَالأَيْمَنَ

قَالَ جَاءَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى دَارِنَا وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَنَاسٌ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ فَحَلَبْتُ لَهُمْ شَاةً ثُمَّ صُبَّ عَلَيْهِ مَاءٌ مِنْ بِئْرِنَا فَشَرِبَ وَأبُو بَكْرٍ عَن يَسَارِهِ وَعُمَرُ وِجَاهَهُ والأعراب عَن يَمِينِهِ فَقَالَ عُمَر يُرِيدُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَنَاوَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الأَعْرَابِيَّ وَقال الأَيْمَنُونَ الأَيْمَنُونَ قَالَ أَنَسٌ هِيَ سُنَّةٌ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبد الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَعْمَر يُعْرَفُ بِأَبِي طُوَالَةَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited us in our house, so we milked a sheep for him. To the right of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was a man from the Bedouins, and behind the man was Umar. To the left of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was Abu Bakr. He drank, and Umar said to Abu Bakr, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the Bedouin the cup and said, "Give it to the right, for the right."

زَارَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي دَارِنَا فَحَلَبْنَا لَهُ دَاجِنًا لَنَا وَعَنْ يَمِينِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ وَمَنْ وَرَاءِ الرَّجُلِ عُمَرُ وَعَنْ يَسَارِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَشَرِبَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَأَعْطَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْأَعْرَابِيَّ الْقَدَحَ وَقَالَ «الْأَيْمَنَ فَالْأَيْمَنَ»

[AI] Anas ibn Malik heard me say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina when I was ten years old, and he passed away when I was twenty years old. My mothers used to encourage me to serve him. The Prophet ﷺ entered our house, and we milked a sheep that we had for him. We had a bucket from a well in our house, Abu Bakr was on his left, a Bedouin on his right, and Umar was nearby. The Prophet ﷺ drank and Umar said, 'Give it to Abu Bakr,' and then the Bedouin, and the right side (referring to himself) ended the narration of Sa'dan.

سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ عَشْرِ سِنِينَ وَمَاتَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ عِشْرِينَ سَنَةً وَكَانَتْ أُمَّهَاتِي يَحْثُثْنَنِي عَلَى خِدْمَتِهِ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ دَارَنَا فَحَلَبْنَا لَهُ مِنْ شَاةٍ لَنَا دَاجِنٍ نَشِيبُ لَهُ مِنْ بِئْرٍ فِي الدَّارِ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ وَأَعْرَابِيٌّ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعُمَرُ ؓ نَاحِيَةً فَشَرِبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ أَعْطِ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَنَاوَلَ الْأَعْرَابِيَّ وَقَالَ الْأَيْمَنُ فَالْأَيْمَنُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ سَعْدَانَ

" عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: قَدمَ النَّبِى ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ وَأَنَا ابن عَشْرِ سِنينَ، وَمَاتَ وأَنَا ابنُ عِشْرِينَ سَنَةً، وكُنَّ أُمهَّاتي يَحْثُثْنَنِى عَلَى خِدْمتهِ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا النَّبِىُّ ﷺ ، فَحَلَبْنَا لَهُ شَاة لَنَا دَاجنًا (*) فَشِيبَ لَهُ مِنْ مَاءِ بئِر في الدًارِ وأَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ شمَالِهِ وَأعرَابىٌّ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَشَرِبَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ وَعُمَر نَاحِيَةَ، فَقَالَ عُمَر أعْطِهِ أَبَا بَكْر، فَنَاوَلَ الأَعْرَابِىّ وَقَالَ: الأَيْمَن فَالأَيْمَن ".
