Safinah AbuAbdurRahman said that a man prepared food for Ali ibn AbuTalib who was his guest, and Fatimah said: I wish we had invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he had eaten with us. They invited him, and when he came he put his hands on the side-ports of the door, but when he saw the figured curtain which had been put at the end of the house, he went away. So Fatimah said to Ali: Follow him and see what turned him back. I (Ali) followed him and asked: What turned you back, Messenger of Allah? He replied: It is not fitting for me or for any Prophet to enter a house which is decorated.

فَاطِمَةُ لَوْ دَعَوْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَكَلَ مَعَنَا فَدَعَوْهُ فَجَاءَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى عِضَادَتَىِ الْبَابِ فَرَأَى الْقِرَامَ قَدْ ضُرِبَ بِهِ فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْبَيْتِ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ لِعَلِيٍّ الْحَقْهُ فَانْظُرْ مَا رَجَعَهُ فَتَبِعْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا رَدَّكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِي أَوْ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بَيْتًا مُزَوَّقًا

“Why don’t we invite the Prophet ﷺ to eat with us?” So they invited him and he came. He put his hand on the doorpost of the house and saw a thin curtain in the corner of the house, so he went back. Fatimah said to ‘Ali: “Go and catch up with him, and ask him: ‘What made you go back, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “I do not enter a well-decorated house.”

فَاطِمَةُ لَوْ دَعَوْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَكَلَ مَعَنَا فَدَعَوْهُ فَجَاءَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى عِضَادَتَىِ الْبَابِ فَرَأَى قِرَامًا فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْبَيْتِ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ لِعَلِيٍّ الْحَقْ فَقُلْ لَهُ مَا رَجَعَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِي أَنْ أَدْخُلَ بَيْتًا مُزَوَّقًا

فَاطِمَةُ لَوْ دَعَوْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ أَبِي كَامِلٍ فَدَعَوْهُ فَجَاءَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى عِضَادَتَيِ الْبَابِ فَرَأَى قِرَامًا فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْبَيْتِ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ لِعَلِيٍّ الْحَقْهُ فَقُلْ لَهُ مَا رَجَعَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِي أَنْ أَدْخُلَ بَيْتًا مُزَوَّقًا

[Machine] A man invited Ali and prepared food for him. Fatima said, "If only the Prophet ﷺ was invited, he would have eaten with us." So, a man was sent to the Prophet ﷺ and he came. He grabbed hold of the door handle and saw a flask on the side of the house, so he returned and Fatima asked Ali to follow him and see what made him come back. Ali followed him and asked, "Why did you return, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is not fitting for me to enter a decorated house."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا دَعَاهُ عَلِيٌّ فَصَنَعَ لَهُ طَعَامًا فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ ؓ فَلَوْ دَعَوْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَكَلَ مَعَنَا فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلًا فَجَاءَ فَأَخَذَ بِعِضَادَتَيِ الْبَابِ فَرَأَى قِرَامًا فِي نَاحِيَتَيِ الْبَيْتِ فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ ؓ لِعَلِيٍّ ؓ اتَّبِعْهُ فَانْظُرْ مَا رَجَعَهُ فَتَبِعَهُ فَقَالَ مَا رَدَّكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «لَيْسَ لِي أَنْ أَدْخَلَ بَيْتًا مُزَوَّقًا»
