[Machine] Narrated by Abu Umamah Al-Bahili, a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , from Ubada bin As-Samit, who said: "I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to the Battle of Badr, where we encountered the enemy. When we defeated them, a group of Muslims followed them and killed them. Another group surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , while yet another group controlled the army. When Allah had granted victory and those who were killed returned, they said to us: 'You took part in the battle and killed the enemy, but we were left behind by Allah and defeated.' Those who surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'You are not more deserving of him than us. He belongs to us, as we were the ones who surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and prevented the enemy from reaching him.' And those who controlled the army said to us: 'By Allah, you are not more deserving of him than us. We were the ones who controlled the army.' Then Allah revealed the verse: 'They ask you (O Muhammad) about the spoils of war. Say: "The spoils are for Allah and the Messenger. So fear Allah and amend your relationships."' (Quran 8:1) until His saying: 'If you are believers.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed the spoils among them accordingly."  

عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ صَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى بَدْرٍ نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ فَلَمَّا هَزَمَهُمُ اتَّبَعَهُمْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَقْتُلُونَهُمْ وَأَحْدَقَتْ طَائِفَةٌ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَوْلَتْ طَائِفَةٌ بِالْعَسْكَرِ فَلَمَّا كَفَى اللَّهُ الْعَدُوَّ وَرَجَعَ الَّذِينَ قَتَلُوهُمْ قَالُوا لَنَا النَّفَلُ نَحْنُ قَتَلْنَا الْعَدُوَّ وَبِنَا نَفَاهُمُ اللَّهُ وَهَزَمَهُمْ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا أَحْدَقُوا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنَّا هُوَ لَنَا نَحْنُ أَحْدَقْنَا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا يَنَالُ الْعَدُوُّ مِنْهُ غِرَّةً وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَوْلَوْا عَلَى الْعَسْكَرِ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنَّا نَحْنُ اسْتَوْلَيْنَا عَلَى الْعَسْكَرِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ﷻ {يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَنْفَالِ قُلِ الْأَنْفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَصْلِحُوا ذَاتَ بَيْنِكُمْ} [الأنفال 1] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ} [البقرة 91] فَقَسَمَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَهُمْ عَنْ فُوَاقٍ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to Badr and encountered the enemy. When Allah defeated them, a group of Muslims followed them, killing them. Another group surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and yet another group controlled the army and the spoils. When Allah had finished with the enemy and those who sought them returned, they said to us, "We deserve the spoils because we sought the enemy and Allah granted us victory over them." Those who surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, you are not more deserving of it than us. It is for us because we surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the enemy did not cause him any harm." Those who controlled the army and the spoils said, "By Allah, you are not more deserving of it than us. It is for us." So Allah revealed the verse: "They ask you about the spoils." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ divided it among them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to give them shares when they set out for a quarter of the journey, and he would give them shares when they covered a third of the journey. On the day of Hunayn, the Prophet took a share from a side of the mount. Then he said, "O people, it is not permissible for me to take more than what Allah has given you. The fifth belongs to you, so give the thread and the bowstring, and beware of stealing, for it is a disgrace on the Day of Judgment. And strive in the way of Allah, for it is a door among the doors of Paradise that Allah eliminates worries and grief through." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked the spoils and used to say, "Let the strong believers defend the weak among them."  

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى بَدْرٍ فَلَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ فَلَمَّا هَزَمَهُمُ اللَّهُ اتَّبَعَهُمْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَقْتُلُونَهُمْ وَأَحْدَقَتْ طَائِفَةٌ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَوْلَتْ طَائِفَةٌ عَلَى الْعَسْكَرِ وَالنَّهْبِ فَلَمَّا كَفَى اللَّهُ الْعَدُوَّ وَرَجَعَ الَّذِينَ طَلَبُوهُمْ قَالُوا لَنَا النَّفْلُ نَحْنُ طَلَبْنَا الْعَدُوَّ وَبِنَا نَفَاهُمُ اللَّهُ وَهَزَمَهُمْ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ أَحْدَقُوا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَنْتُمْ أَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنَّا هُوَ لَنَا نَحْنُ أَحْدَقْنَا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِأَنْ لَا يَنَالَ الْعَدُوُّ مِنْهُ غِرَّةً قَالَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَوْلَوْا عَلَى الْعَسْكَرِ وَالنَّهْبِ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَحَقَّ مِنَّا هُوَ لَنَا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى {يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَنْفَالِ} الْآيَةَ فَقَسَمَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَهُمْ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُنَفِّلُهُمْ إِذَا خَرَجُوا بَادِينَ الرُّبُعَ وَيُنَفِّلُهُمْ إِذَا قَفَلُوا الثُّلُثَ وَقَالَ أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ وَبَرَةً مِنْ جَنْبٍ بَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّهُ لَا يَحِلُّ لِي مِمَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ قَدْرَ هَذِهِ إِلَّا الْخُمُسِ وَالْخُمُسُ مَرْدُودٌ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَدُّوا الْخَيْطَ وَالْمَخِيطَ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْغُلُولَ فَإِنَّهُ عَارٌ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالْجِهَادِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ بَابٌ مِنْ أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ يُذْهِبُ اللَّهُ بِهِ الْهَمَّ وَالْغَمَّ» قَالَ فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَكْرَهُ الْأَنْفَالَ وَيَقُولُ «لِيَرُدَّ قَوِيُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى ضَعِيفِهِمْ»  

[Machine] Narrated by Abu Umamah al-Bahili, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Ubada ibn As-Samit reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to Badr and encountered the enemy. When Allah granted them victory over them, a group of Muslims chased after them and killed them, and another group of Muslims surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and controlled the military power. When Allah finished off the enemy and those who had been killed returned, they said to us, "You got the spoils of war, we killed the enemy whilst we were still in their pursuance and Allah defeated and humiliated them." And those who had surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, you are not more entitled to them than us. We surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that the enemy could not get to him." Those who had controlled the military power said, "By Allah, you are not more entitled to them than us. We controlled the military power." Then Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, revealed the verse, "They ask you concerning the spoils of war. Say: 'The spoils of war are for Allah and the Messenger. So fear Allah and adjust all matters of difference among you."' (Quran 8:1) until His statement, "If you really are believers." (Quran 2:91) Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ divided the spoils of war among them fairly.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to Badr and encountered the enemy there. When Allah granted him victory, a group of Muslims followed the retreating enemy and killed them. Another group focused on the spoils of war and the captives, while another group claimed that they were more entitled to the spoils than others. Those who defended the Prophet ﷺ said, "No, he belongs to us. We were more concerned about protecting the Prophet ﷺ from the enemy." Those who focused on the spoils and captives also claimed that they were more entitled to them. They said, "No, he belongs to us. We were the ones who took control and safeguarded him." Then Allah revealed the verse, "They ask you about the spoils of war. Say, 'The spoils of war belong to Allah and the Messenger.'" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then divided the spoils among the companions fairly.  

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى بَدْرٍ فَلَقِيَ بِهَا الْعَدُوَّ فَلَمَّا هَزَمَهُمُ اللهُ اتَّبَعَهُمْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَقْتُلُونَهُمْ وَأَحْدَقَتْ طَائِفَةٌ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَوْلَتْ طَائِفَةٌ عَلَى النَّهْبِ وَالْعَسْكَرِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ الَّذِينَ طَلَبُوا الْعَدُوَّ قَالُوا لَنَا النَّفَلُ؛ نَحْنُ طَلَبْنَا الْعَدُوَّ وَبِنَا نَفَاهُمُ اللهُ وَهَزَمَهُمْ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ أَحْدَقُوا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنَّا بَلْ هُوَ لَنَا؛ نَحْنُ أَحْدَقْنَا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَنَالَهُ مِنَ الْعَدُوِّ غِرَّةٌ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَوْلَوْا عَلَى الْعَسْكَرِ وَالنَّهْبِ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنَّا بَلْ هُوَ لَنَا؛ نَحْنُ اسْتَوْلَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَأَحْرَزْنَاهُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ {يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَنْفَالِ قُلِ الْأَنْفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ} [الأنفال 1] الْآيَةَ فَقَسَمَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَهُمْ عَنْ فُوَاقٍ
