Being able to give charity is better than receiving it

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ˹Allah says:˺ O son of Adam, it is better for you if you spend your surplus ˹in charity˺, but if you withhold it, it is evil for you. There is, however. no reproach for you ˹if you withhold means necessary˺ for a living. Begin ˹giving charity˺ with your dependents. and the upper hand is better than the lower hand.  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ! إِنَّكَ أَنْ تَبْذُلَ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ، وَأَنْ تُمْسِكَهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ، وَلاَ تُلاَمُ عَلَى كَفَافٍ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى.»  

[Machine] He heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Indeed, Allah says, 'O son of Adam, if you give the favor, then it is better for you, and if you withhold it, then it is worse for you. And begin [with charity] to those whom you provide for. And do not blame Allah for what He has given you and the higher hand is better than the lower hand."  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنْ تُعْطِ الْفَضْلَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَإِنْ تُمْسِكْهُ فَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَكَ وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَلَا يَلُومُ اللهُ عَلَى الْكَفَافِ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى  

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ˹That Allah said:˺ O son of Adam! If you give your surplus it is better for you, and if you keep it, it is worse for you, but there is no harm with what is sufficient. And begin ˹the giving˺ with your dependents. And the upper hand (i.e. giving) is better than the lower hand (i.e. receiving).  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَبْذُلِ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَإِنْ تُمْسِكْهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ، وَلَا تُلَامُ عَلَى الْكَفَافِ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى.  

"O son of Adam! If you give your surplus it is better for you, and if you keep it, it is worse for you, but there is no harm with what is sufficient. And begin(the giving) with your dependents, and the upper hand (giving) is better than the lower hand (receiving)." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2343)   

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنْ تَبْذُلَ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَإِنْ تُمْسِكْهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ وَلَا يُلَامُ عَلَى الْكَفَافِ وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O son of Adam, if you give in charity, it is better for you, and if you withhold it, it is evil for you. Do not blame anyone for a modest provision, and start with those who are under your care. The upper hand is better than the lower hand." This is the saying of Muhammad ibn Bashshar, and in the narration of Al-Jahdamy it is attributed to Shaddad Abu Ammar, and the rest are equal.  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَبْذُلِ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَإِنْ تُمْسِكْهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ وَلَا تُلَامُ عَلَى كَفَافٍ وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بَشَّارٍ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ الْجَهْضَمِيِّ شَدَّادٌ أَبُو عَمَّارٍ وَالْبَاقِي سَوَاءٌ  

"قَال الله -تعالى- يَابْنَ آدَمَ إِنْ تَبْذُل الْفَضْلَ فَهُوَ خَيرٌ لَكَ، وَإِنْ تَمْسِكْهُ فَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَكَ، وَلَا تُلامُ عَلَى الْكَفَاف, وَابْدَأ بمَنْ تَعُولُ, وَالْيَدُ الْعُليَا خَيرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى".  

"يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ: إِنَّكَ أَنْ تَبْذُلَ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ، وَأَنْ تُمْسِكَهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ، وَلاَ تُلاَمُ عَلى كَفَافٍ، وَابْدَأ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُليَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ اليَدِ السُّفْلَى".
