48. Dua (Supplications)
The best dua is asking for afiyah (well-being)
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is best? He said: "Ask your Lord for well-being and protection in this world and the Hereafter."
Then he came to him on the second day and said: O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is best? He said the same to him. Then he came to him on the third day, and he said the same to him. He said: "If you are given well-being in this world and are given it in the Hereafter, then you have succeeded."
Dua for the last ten nights of Ramadan and Laylat al-Qadr
I said, “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, if I come to know which night is the Night of Decree, what should I say in it?” He said, “Say:
allāhumma innaka ʿafuwwun karīmun, tuḥibb al-ʿafwa, faʿfu ʿanni
O Allah, You are Pardoning and Generous; You love pardon, so pardon me.”
Asking Allah for well-being in this world and the Hereafter
[AI] I said: "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, teach me something that I may ask Allah ﷻ for." He ﷺ said: "Ask Allah for well-being." I remained for some days, then I came and said: "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, teach me something that I may ask Allah for." He said to me: "O Abbas, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah, ask Allah for well-being in this world and the Hereafter."
“Allah has not been asked for anything more beloved to Him than being asked for Al-ʿĀfiyah.]
