٤٨۔٣٩ باب مَا يَقُولُ إِذَا رَأَى مُبْتَلًى

Duʿāʾ of gratefulness to Allah for saving you from the tribulations you witness others go through

tirmidhi:3431Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh b. Bazīʿ > ʿAbd al-Wārith b. Saʿīd > ʿAmr b. Dīnār a freed slave of the family of al-Zubayr > Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar > Ibn ʿUmar > ʿUmar

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever sees a person ˹afflicted with trials˺ and says: ‘All praise is due to Allah Who saved me from that which He has afflicted you with, and blessed me greatly over many of those whom He has created,’ except that he shall be saved from that affliction for as long as he lives.”

Abū ʿĪsá said: this ḥadīth is gharīb (solitary), in the section from Abū Hurayrah and ʿAmr b. Dīnār, Qahrmān of the family of al-Zubayr is a Baṣran shaykh and he is not strong in ḥadīth. He has solitary narrations in ḥadīth from Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr. It is narrated from Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. ʿAlī that he said, if someone sees a person ˹afflicted with trials˺ then he should seek refuge from it and he should say ˹this duʿāʾ˺ within himself so that the person ˹afflicted with trials˺ doesn't hear him.

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Gharīb in this particular context.
