Abyad went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him for assigning him (the mines of) salt as fief. (The narrator Ibn al-Mutawakkil said: which was in Ma'arib.) So he assigned it to him as a fief. When he returned, a man in the meeting asked: Do you know what you have assigned him as a fief? You have assigned him the perennial spring water. So he took it back from him. He asked him about protecting land which had arak trees growing in it. He replied: He could have such as was beyond the region where the hoofs (of camels) went. The narrator Ibn al-Mutwakkil said: "that is the camel hoofs."  

أَنَّهُ وَفَدَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَقْطَعَهُ الْمِلْحَ قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ الَّذِي بِمَأْرِبَ فَقَطَعَهُ لَهُ فَلَمَّا أَنْ وَلَّى قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمَجْلِسِ أَتَدْرِي مَا قَطَعْتَ لَهُ إِنَّمَا قَطَعْتَ لَهُ الْمَاءَ الْعِدَّ قَالَ فَانْتَزَعَ مِنْهُ قَالَ وَسَأَلَهُ عَمَّا يُحْمَى مِنَ الأَرَاكِ قَالَ مَا لَمْ تَنَلْهُ خِفَافٌ وَقَالَ ابْنُ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ أَخْفَافُ الإِبِلِ  

[Machine] He sent a delegation to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he asked for permission to enter, and he granted him permission. When he turned to leave, a man said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you know what he asked for?" He only asked for a handful of salt." He returned and said, "I asked him about what is to be protected from the land mines," and he said, "As long as you have not reached the corners of the camels."  

أَنَّهُ وَفْدَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَقْطَعَهُ فَأَقْطَعَهُ الْمِلْحَ فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ قَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتَدْرِي مَا أَقْطَعْتَهُ؟ إِنَّمَا أَقْطَعْتَهُ الْمَاءَ الْعِدَّ قَالَ فَرَجَعَ فِيهِ وَقَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَمَّا يُحْمَى مِنَ الْأَرَاكِ فَقَالَ «مَا لَمْ تَبْلُغْهُ أَخْفَافُ الْإِبِلِ»  

[Machine] He came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking his permission to use salt. The Prophet gave him permission, so he took some salt. Then a man said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, do you know what he cut from it? It is the water that remains after the process of boiling it until it evaporates. So he returned it to him and asked him what is protected from the flies. The Prophet said, "As long as it has not reached the width of camel's hooves."  

أَنَّهُ وَفَدَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَسْتَقْطِعُهُ الْمِلْحَ فَأَقْطَعَهُ إِيَّاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تَدْرِي مَا أَقْطَعْتَهُ الْمَاءَ الْعِدَّ فَأَرْجَعَهُ مِنْهُ وَسَأَلْتُهُ مَا يُحْمَى مِنَ الْأَرَاكِ؟ قَالَ «مَا لَمْ تَبْلُغْهُ أَخْفَافُ الْإِبِلِ»  

[Machine] "He (someone) visited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him for some salt from Ma'rib, so he granted it to him. A man asked, 'Do you know, O Messenger of Allah, what you have granted to him?' He replied, 'I have granted him flowing water.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew it from me. I then asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , 'What is protected from the punishment of the hellfire?' He replied, 'What has not been touched by the hooves of camels.'"  

أَنَّهُ وَفَدَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَقْطَعَهُ الْمِلْحَ الَّذِي بِمَأْرِبَ فَأَقْطَعَهُ لَهُ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ تَدْرِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا قَطَعْتَ لَهُ؟ قَطَعْتَ لَهُ الْمَاءَ الْعِدَّ قَالَ فَرَّجَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنِّي قَالَ وَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَا يُحْمَى مِنَ الْأَرَاكِ؟ قَالَ «يُحْمَى مَا لَمْ تَنَلْهُ أَخْفَافُ الْإِبِلِ»

" عَنْ أَبْيضَ (*) بْنِ حَمَّالٍ قَالَ: إِنَّهُ وَفَد إِلَى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَاسْتَقْطَعَهُ الْمِلحَ الَّذِى بِمَأرِب فَقَطعَهُ لَهُ فَلَمَّا أَنْ ولَّى قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمَجْلِسِ: أتَدْرِى مَا قَطَعْتَ لَهُ؟ إِنَّمَا قَطَعْتَ لَهُ الْمَاءَ العِدّ (*) فانتزع منه قَالَ: وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَمَّا يَحْمِى مِنَ الأرَاكِ؟ قَالَ: مَا لَمْ تَنَلْهُ أَخْفَافُ الإِبِلِ".  

"وَفَدَ إِلَى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَاسْتَقْطَعَهُ الْمِلْحَ الَّذِى بِمَأرِبٍ، فَقَطَعَهُ لَهُ، فَلَمَّا أَنْ وَلَّى، قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمَجْلِسِ: أَتَدْرِى مَا قَطَعْتَ لَهُ؟ (إنّما قَطَعْتَ لَهُ) (*) الْمَاءَ العِدَّ (* *)، فَانْتَزع مِنْهُ، قَالَ: وَسَأَلتُهُ عَمَّا يُحْمَى مِنَ الأَرَاكِ؟ قَالَ: مَا لَمْ تَنَلْهُ أَخْفَافُ الإبِلِ".
