[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a small group of soldiers and commanded Asim bin Thabit, the grandfather of Asim bin Umar, to lead them. They set out until they reached a place between Usfan and Mecca, where they encountered a tribe called Banu Lihyan. They followed their tracks closely, led by a skilled tracker. They followed their tracks until they reached a settlement where they found a date palm tree that provided them with dates from Madinah. They said, "These dates are from Yathrib (Madinah)." They continued to follow their tracks until they caught up with them. When Asim bin Thabit and his companions caught up with them, they sought refuge in a mountain called Fadfad. The people surrounded them and said, "We have a treaty and a pact that if you come to us, we will not kill any of you." Asim bin Thabit said, "As for me, I will not enter into the protection of a disbeliever. O Allah, inform Your Messenger about us." So they fought against them until they killed Asim and seven others. There remained Khuwaybir bin Adi and Zaid bin Dathinah, whom they sold in Mecca. Khuwaybir bin Harith bin Amir bin Nawfal bought Khuwaybir from them. The day of the Battle of Badr, he remained with them as a prisoner. When they agreed to kill him, Musa, one of the daughters of Harith, allowed him to use her for protection. I (the narrator) had neglected my young son, so he crawled towards him until he reached him. When Musa saw him, she became frightened and started screaming. She recognized me and saw Musa in his hand. She said, "Are you afraid that I will kill him? I would never do such a thing, if Allah wills." She said, "I have never seen a good captive better than Khuwaybir. I saw him eating grapes that are not even available in Mecca at that time. He was shackled in iron, and his survival was only by the provision that Allah had given him." Then they took him outside the sanctuary to kill him, and he said, "Let me pray two units (rak'at) of prayer." He prayed the two units of prayer, and then he said, "Had it not been for you seeing my anxiety about death, I would have prayed more." He was the first to establish the two units of prayer before being killed. Then he said, "O Allah, count them and deal with them accordingly."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out ten spies under the command of ʿAsim bin Thabit Al-Ansari, the grand-father of ʿAsim bin ʿUmar Al-Khattab. When they reached (a place called) Al-Hadah between 'Usfan and Mecca, their presence was made known to a sub-tribe of Hudhail called Banu Lihyan. So they sent about one hundred archers after them. The archers traced the footsteps (of the Muslims) till they found the traces of dates which they had eaten at one of their camping places. The archers said, "These dates are of Yathrib (i.e. Medina)," and went on tracing the Muslims' footsteps. When ʿAsim and his companions became aware of them, they took refuge in a (high) place. But the enemy encircled them and said, "Come down and surrender. We give you a solemn promise and covenant that we will not kill anyone of you." ʿAsim bin Thabit said, "O people! As for myself, I will never get down to be under the protection of an infidel. O Allah! Inform your Prophet about us." So the archers threw their arrows at them and martyred ʿAsim. Three of them came down and surrendered to them, accepting their promise and covenant and they were Khubaib, Zaid bin Ad-Dathina and another man. When the archers got hold of them, they untied the strings of the arrow bows and tied their captives with them. The third man said, "This is the first proof of treachery! By Allah, I will not go with you for I follow the example of these." He meant the martyred companions. The archers dragged him and struggled with him (till they martyred him). Then Khubaib and Zaid bin Ad-Dathina were taken away by them and later on they sold them as slaves in Mecca after the event of the Badr battle. The sons of Al-Harit bin ʿAmr bin Naufal bought Khubaib for he was a person who had killed (their father) Al-Hari bin ʿAmr on the day (of the battle) of Badr. Khubaib remained imprisoned by them till they decided unanimously to kill him. One day Khubaib borrowed from a daughter of Al-Harith, a razor for shaving his pubic hair, and she lent it to him. By chance, while she was inattentive, a little son of hers went to him (i.e. Khubaib) and she saw that Khubaib had seated him on his thigh while the razor was in his hand. She was so much terrified that Khubaib noticed her fear and said, "Are you afraid that I will kill him? Never would I do such a thing." Later on (while narrating the story) she said, "By Allah, I had never seen a better captive than Khubaib. By Allah, one day I saw him eating from a bunch of grapes in his hand while he was fettered with iron chains and (at that time) there was no fruit in Mecca." She used to say," It was food Allah had provided Khubaib with." When they took him to Al-Hil out of Mecca sanctuary to martyr him, Khubaib requested them. "Allow me to offer a two-rakʿat prayer." They allowed him and he prayed two rakʿat and then said, "By Allah! Had I not been afraid that you would think I was worried, I would have prayed more." Then he (invoked evil upon them) saying, "O Allah! Count them and kill them one by one, and do not leave anyone of them"' Then he recited: "As I am martyred as a Muslim, I do not care in what way I receive my death for Allah's Sake, for this is for the Cause of Allah. If He wishes, He will bless the cut limbs of my body." Then Abu Sarva, 'Ubqa bin Al-Harith went up to him and killed him. It was Khubaib who set the tradition of praying for any Muslim to be martyred in captivity (before he is executed). The Prophet ﷺ told his companions of what had happened (to those ten spies) on the same day they were martyred. Some Quraish people, being informed of ʿAsim bin Thabit's death, sent some messengers to bring a part of his body so that his death might be known for certain, for he had previously killed one of their leaders (in the battle of Badr). But Allah sent a swarm of wasps to protect the dead body of ʿAsim, and they shielded him from the messengers who could not cut anything from his body.

bukhari:3045Abū al-Yamān > Shuʿayb > al-Zuhrī > ʿAmr

Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a Sariya of ten men as spies under the leadership of ʿAsim bin Thabit al-Ansari, the grandfather of ʿAsim bin ʿUmar Al-Khattab. They proceeded till they reached Hadaa, a place between 'Usfan, and Mecca, and their news reached a branch of the tribe of Hudhail called Bani Lihyan. About two-hundred men, who were all archers, hurried to follow their tracks till they found the place where they had eaten dates they had brought with them from Medina. They said, "These are the dates of Yathrib (i.e. Medina), "and continued following their tracks When ʿAsim and his companions saw their pursuers, they went up a high place and the infidels circled them. The infidels said to them, "Come down and surrender, and we promise and guarantee you that we will not kill any one of you" ʿAsim bin Thabit; the leader of the Sariya said, "By Allah! I will not come down to be under the protection of infidels. O Allah! Convey our news to Your Prophet. Then the infidels threw arrows at them till they martyred ʿAsim along with six other men, and three men came down accepting their promise and convention, and they were Khubaib-al-Ansari and Ibn Dathina and another man So, when the infidels captured them, they undid the strings of their bows and tied them. Then the third (of the captives) said, "This is the first betrayal. By Allah! I will not go with you. No doubt these, namely the martyred, have set a good example to us." So, they dragged him and tried to compel him to accompany them, but as he refused, they killed him. They took Khubaid and Ibn Dathina with them and sold them (as slaves) in Mecca (and all that took place) after the battle of Badr. Khubaib was bought by the sons of Al-Harith bin 'Amir bin Naufal bin ʿAbd Manaf. It was Khubaib who had killed Al-Harith bin 'Amir on the day (of the battle of) Badr. So, Khubaib remained a prisoner with those people. Narrated Az-Zuhri: 'Ubaidullah bin 'Iyyad said that the daughter of Al-Harith had told him, "When those people gathered (to kill Khubaib) he borrowed a razor from me to shave his pubes and I gave it to him. Then he took a son of mine while I was unaware when he came upon him. I saw him placing my son on his thigh and the razor was in his hand. I got scared so much that Khubaib noticed the agitation on my face and said, 'Are you afraid that I will kill him? No, I will never do so.' By Allah, I never saw a prisoner better than Khubaib. By Allah, one day I saw him eating of a bunch of grapes in his hand while he was chained in irons, and there was no fruit at that time in Mecca." The daughter of Al-Harith used to say, "It was a boon Allah bestowed upon Khubaib." When they took him out of the Sanctuary (of Mecca) to kill him outside its boundaries, Khubaib requested them to let him offer two rakʿat (prayer). They allowed him and he offered Two rakʿat and then said, "Hadn't I been afraid that you would think that I was afraid (of being killed), I would have prolonged the prayer. O Allah, kill them all with no exception." (He then recited the poetic verse):-- "I being martyred as a Muslim, Do not mind how I am killed in Allah's Cause, For my killing is for Allah's Sake, And if Allah wishes, He will bless the amputated parts of a torn body" Then the son of Al Harith killed him. So, it was Khubaib who set the tradition for any Muslim sentenced to death in captivity, to offer a two-rakʿat prayer (before being killed). Allah fulfilled the invocation of ʿAsim bin Thabit on that very day on which he was martyred. The Prophet ﷺ informed his companions of their news and what had happened to them. Later on when some infidels from Quraish were informed that ʿAsim had been killed, they sent some people to fetch a part of his body (i.e. his head) by which he would be recognized. (That was because) ʿAsim had killed one of their chiefs on the day (of the battle) of Badr. So, a swarm of wasps, resembling a shady cloud, were sent to hover over ʿAsim and protect him from their messenger and thus they could not cut off anything from his flesh.

bukhari:4086Ibrāhīm b. Mūsá > Hishām b. Yūsuf > Maʿmar > al-Zuhrī > ʿAmr

The Prophet ﷺ sent a Sariya of spies and appointed ʿAsim bin Thabit, the grandfather of ʿAsim bin ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab, as their leader. So they set out, and when they reached (a place) between 'Usfan and Mecca, they were mentioned to one of the branch tribes of Bani Hudhail called Lihyan. So, about one-hundred archers followed their traces till they (i.e. the archers) came to a journey station where they (i.e. ʿAsim and his companions) had encamped and found stones of dates they had brought as journey food from Medina. The archers said, "These are the dates of Medina," and followed their traces till they took them over. When ʿAsim and his companions were not able to go ahead, they went up a high place, and their pursuers encircled them and said, "You have a covenant and a promise that if you come down to us, we will not kill anyone of you." ʿAsim said, "As for me, I will never come down on the security of an infidel. O Allah! Inform Your Prophet about us." So they fought with them till they killed ʿAsim along with seven of his companions with arrows, and there remained Khubaib, Zaid and another man to whom they gave a promise and a covenant. So when the infidels gave them the covenant and promise, they came down. When they captured them, they opened the strings of their arrow bows and tied them with it. The third man who was with them said, "This is the first breach in the covenant," and refused to accompany them. They dragged him and tried to make him accompany them, but he refused, and they killed him. Then they proceeded on taking Khubaib and Zaid till they sold them in Mecca. The sons of Al-Harith bin ʿAmr bin Naufal bought Khubaib. It was Khubaib who had killed Al-Harith bin ʿAmr on the day of Badr. Khubaib stayed with them for a while as a captive till they decided unanimously to kill him. (At that time) Khubaib borrowed a razor from one of the daughters of Al- Harith to shave his pubic hair. She gave it to him. She said later on, "I was heedless of a little baby of mine, who moved towards Khubaib, and when it reached him, he put it on his thigh. When I saw it, I got scared so much that Khubaib noticed my distress while he was carrying the razor in his hand. He said 'Are you afraid that I will kill it? Allah willing, I will never do that,' " Later on she used to say, "I have never seen a captive better than Khubaib Once I saw him eating from a bunch of grapes although at that time no fruits were available at Mecca, and he was fettered with iron chains, and in fact, it was nothing but food bestowed upon him by Allah." So they took him out of the Sanctuary (of Mecca) to kill him. He said, "Allow me to offer a two-rakʿat prayer." Then he went to them and said, "Had I not been afraid that you would think I was afraid of death, I would have prayed for a longer time." So it was Khubaib who first set the tradition of praying two rakʿat before being executed. He then said, "O Allah! Count them one by one," and added, 'When I am being martyred as a Muslim, I do not care in what way I receive my death for Allah's Sake, because this death is in Allah's Cause. If He wishes, He will bless the cut limbs." Then ʿUqba bin Al-Harith got up and martyred him. The narrator added: The Quraish (infidels) sent some people to ʿAsim in order to bring a part of his body so that his death might be known for certain, for ʿAsim had killed one of their chiefs on the day of Badr. But Allah sent a cloud of wasps which protected his body from their messengers who could not harm his body consequently.

abudawud:2765Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd > Muḥammad b. Thawr > Maʿmar > al-Zuhrī > ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr > al-Miswar b. Makhramah

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out in the year of al-Hudaibbiyyah with over ten hundreds of Companions and when he came to Dhu al Hulaifah. He garlanded and marked the sacrificial animals, and entered the sacred state of Umrah. He then went on with the tradition. The Prophet moved on and when he came to the mountain, pass by which one descends (to Mecca) to them, his riding-beast knelt down, and the people said twice: Go on, go on, al-Qaswa has become jaded. The Prophet (May peace be upon him) said: She has not become jaded and that is not a characteristic of hers, but He Who restrained the elephant has restrained her. He then said: By Him in Whose hand my soul is, they will not ask any me good thing by which they honor which God has made sacred without my giving them it. He then urged her and she leaped up and he turned aside from them, and stopped at the farthest side of al-Hudaibiyyah at a pool with little water. Meanwhile Budail bin Warqa al-Khuza’I came, and ‘Urwah bin Mas’ud joined him. He began to speak to the Prophet ﷺ. Whenever he spoke to the Prophet ﷺ, he caught his beard. Al Mughriah bin Shu’bah was standing beside the Prophet ﷺ.He had a sword with him, wearing a helmet. He (Al Mughriah) struck his (‘Urwah’s) hand with the lower end of his sheath, and said: Keep away your hand from his beard. ‘Urwah then raised his hand and asked: Who is this? They replied: Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah. He said: O treacherous one! Did I not use my offices in your treachery? In pre-Islamic days Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah accompanied some people and murdered them, and took their property. He then came (to the Prophet) and embraced Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said: As for Islam we accepted it, but as to the property, as it has been taken by treachery, we have no need of it. He went on with the tradition the Prophet ﷺ said: Write down: This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has decided. He then narrated the tradition. Suhail then said: And that a man will not come to you from us, even if he follows your religion, without you sending him back to us. When he finished drawing up the document, the Prophet ﷺ said to his Companions: Get up and sacrifice and then shave. Thereafter some believing women who were immigrants came. (Allah sent down: O yea who believe, when believing women come to you as emigrants). Allah most high forbade them to send them back, but ordered them to restore the dower. He then returned to Medina. Abu Basir a man from the Quraish (who was a Muslim), came to him. And they sent (two men) to look for him; so he handed him over to the two men. They took him away, and when they reached Dhu Al Hulaifah and alighted to eat some dates which they had, Abu Basir said to one of the men : I swear by Allah so-and-so, that I think this sword of yours is a fine one; the other drew the sword and said : Yes I have tried it. Abu Basir said: Let me look at it. He let him have it and he struck him till he died, whereupon the other fled and came to Medina, and running entered the mosque. The Prophet ( may peace be upon him) said: This man has seen something frightful. He said: I swear by Allah that my Companion has been killed, and im as good as dead. Abu Basir then arrived and said: Allah has fulfilled your covenant. You returned me to them, but Allah saved me from them. The Prophet ﷺ said: Woe to his mother, stirrer up of war! Would that he had someone (i.e. some kinsfolk). When he heard that he knew that he would send him back to them, so he went out and came to the seashore. [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Ghālib ibn ‘Abdullah al-Kalbi with Kalb, the Lion, to the tribe of Banī Mulawwah in al-Kudayd. He commanded him to change their position, so we went with him until we reached Qudayd. There, we met al-Harith ibn Mālik, who was from the tribe of Lays, so we captured him. He said, "I have only come to embrace Islam." Ghālib ibn ‘Abdullah said, "If you have come as a Muslim, then no harm will come to you for one day and one night. However, if you have come for something else, we will take precautions with you." He said, "I give you my word and security." So Ghālib ibn ‘Abdullah gave him a bond of safety, and then he left someone dark-skinned with him, who was with us. He said to him, "Stay with him until we pass by you. If he confronts you, grab his head." He said, "Then we continued until we reached the belly of al-Kudayd. We camped there after ‘Asr prayer. My companions sent me to a hilltop to observe the enemy. I lay on top of it until it was Maghrib time. A man among them came out and looked. He saw me lying on the hilltop and said to his wife, 'By Allah, I see someone lying on this hilltop. I did not see him in the morning. Be careful, lest the dogs have eaten some of our provisions.' She looked and said, 'No, by Allah, I have not lost anything.' He said, 'Then give me my bow and two arrows from my quiver.' She gave them to him, and he shot me with an arrow, which I placed by my side. I took it and did not move. Then he shot me with another arrow, which I placed on top of my right shoulder. I took it and did not move. He said to his wife, 'By Allah, these arrows have touched me. If they were enchanted, they would have moved. When it is morning, seek for my arrows and take them. However, do not bite them, for the dogs might be affected by them.' We waited there until their scent had dissipated, and they settled down or went to sleep. In the darkness of the night, we launched a surprise attack on them and killed those we killed from among them, and we took their flocks. We headed off swiftly until we passed by al-Harith ibn al-Barssā’, his friend. We took him with us. The people shouted aloud to their people in a state of shock, and we advanced swiftly. When there was nothing left between us and them except the belly of the valley, a flood came down between us and them, which Allah sent wherever He pleased. We had never seen anything like it before, neither rain nor hail. It came with something that no one can withstand. We saw them standing, looking at us, but none of them could advance, while we crossed it swiftly until it settled. Then we attacked them from a hidden position until we defeated them with what we had in our hands.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , sent a reconnaissance mission and appointed 'Asim ibn Thabit, who was the grandfather of 'Asim ibn 'Umar, as their leader. They set out until they reached a place between 'Usfan and Makkah known as "Bani Lihyan". They followed their tracks with a group of about one hundred men led by Ramm, and they pursued them until they reached a resting place where they found dates that were provisions from Madinah. They said, "These are dates from Yathrib." They followed their tracks until they caught up with them. When 'Asim ibn Thabit and his companions sensed them, they sought refuge in a rugged place, and when the people approached them, they surrounded them and said, "We have made a covenant and agreement with you that if you come to us, we will not kill any of you." 'Asim ibn Thabit said, "As for me, I do not enter into a treaty with a disbeliever." They said, "Fight them." So they fought 'Asim and killed him along with seven others. Only Hubayb ibn 'Adi and Zayd ibn ad-Dathinah remained. They entered into a covenant and agreement with them. When they felt secure from them, they tied their hands with their own bowstrings. The third man with them said, "This is the first act of treachery. I refuse to accompany them." So they killed him. Then they departed with Hubayb ibn 'Adi and Zayd ibn ad-Dathinah until they sold them in Makkah. They sold Hubayb to the sons of Al-Harith ibn 'Amir ibn Nawfal, who had killed Al-Harith on the Day of Badr. Hubayb stayed with them as a prisoner until they decided to kill him. He borrowed a razor from the daughter of Al-Harith to prepare himself with it. She said, "I inadvertently failed to restrain my son from approaching it, and he fell upon it until it reached him." She said, "Have no fear that I will kill him. I wouldn't kill him. You will not find a better captive than Hubayb. I saw him eating ripe grapes when Makkah had no ripe fruits at that time. And he is bound in iron, but his sustenance is only provided by Allah." Then they took him out of the sanctuary to kill him. He asked them, "Allow me to pray two Rak'ahs." He prayed the two Rak'ahs, and then said, "If you did not see my eagerness to die, I would increase in it by the Will of Allah." Hubayb was the first to offer two Rak'ahs before being killed. Then 'Uqbah ibn Al-Harith went toward him and killed him. The people of Quraysh sent word to 'Asim to bring them a part of his body that they could recognize. He was a great man among their elite who had been killed on the Day of Badr. So Allah sent upon them a cloud from behind, shielding them from his messengers. They were unable to harm him in any way.

(Using translation from Bukhārī 3989)

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a reconnaissance party led by Asim bin Thabit. They set off until they reached a place between Usfan and Mecca called Benu Lihyan, and they followed their tracks with about a hundred men to find some date palms from Madinah. It was said that these dates belonged to the people of Yathrib, so they followed their tracks until they caught up with them. When Asim bin Thabit and his companions caught up with them, they sought refuge in Fadfad. The people surrounded them and said, 'You have a covenant and a pledge with us, that if you come to us, we will not kill any of you.' Asim replied, 'But I will not be a part of an agreement with disbelievers. O Allah, inform Your Messenger about us.' So they fought them in their homes until they killed Asim and seven others. Only Hubayb bin Adi and Zaid bin Adhina remained. They made a deal with them that if they surrender, they will be safe. But when they felt secure, they tied them up with their own bowstrings. The third man with them said, 'This is the first betrayal.' He refused to accompany them, so they killed him. As for me, I considered them to be a good example, so they cut off my head. Then they took Hubayb bin Adi and Zaid bin Adhina to Mecca and sold them. Hubayb bin Harith bin Amir bought Hubayb bin Adi, and he was killed on the Day of Badr. He kept me as a captive until they gathered to kill me. But Moses borrowed me from one of the daughters of Harith, who was nursing a baby, and she left him with her on her thigh while Moses had a knife in his hand. When I saw him, I panicked and said, 'Did you intend to kill him?' He said, 'If Allah wills.' I said, 'I have never seen a captive better than Hubayb. I saw him eating from a ripe grape when there were no fruits in Mecca at that time. And indeed, he was bound with iron chains. He had nothing except what Allah provided for him.' Then they took him out of the sanctuary to kill him, and he said, 'Leave me to pray two Rak'ahs.' So he performed the prayer, and then he said, 'If it were not for the fact that you see that I have a fear of death, I would have prolonged the prayer. I was the first to perform two Rak'ahs during the time of being killed.' Then he said..."

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent them as scouts from Mecca to inform him of the news of the Quraysh. They traveled along the Najdiyyah until they reached Raji' from Najd, where they were intercepted by the Banu Lihyan from Hudhayl. Asim ibn Thabit fought with his sword until he was killed. Khubayb and Zaid ibn Adathnah were taken up a mountain, and the people were unable to get to them until they made covenants and agreements with them. They came down to them and tied them securely, then brought them to Mecca, where they sold them to the Quraysh. Khubayb was bought by 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal, the brother of Husayn ibn al-Harith, and Abu Ihab ibn 'Aziz ibn Qays ibn Suwayd ibn Rabiah ibn 'Adas ibn 'Abdullah ibn Darim. Qays ibn Suwayd ibn Rabiah was the brother of 'Amir ibn Nawfal from his mother's side. His mother was the daughter of Nahshal al-Tamimi, and his grandmother was the sister of 'Umaykah ibn Abi Jahl. Al-Akhnas ibn Shurnun ibn 'Ilij ibn Ghibrah al-Thaqafi and 'Ubaydah ibn Hakim al-Sulami were also from the people who purchased them. They delivered them to 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith, who kept them imprisoned in his house. They remained there as long as Allah willed. There was a woman from the tribe of 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith who used to remove their suffering and feed them. Khubayb said to her, "When the people want to kill me, let me know beforehand." When they wanted to kill him, she informed him, and he said to her, "Bring me a razor so that I can shave my pubic hair and beard." The son of the woman who used to provide them with food and water entered with a knife in his hand, and he grasped the hand of the boy and said, "Do you think Allah would allow you to do this to me?" She said, "What do you think of yourself?" Then the boy went to release him, and Khubayb offered two light rak'ahs and departed. Khubayb said, "Had it not been that I did not want them to think that I was afraid of death, I would have prolonged the prayer." The people who had associated partners with Allah came out with them, as did the people of Mecca, who carried a wooden cross until they arrived at Tan'im. There they set up the cross and crucified him upon it. 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith was the one who supervised his killing. Abu Husayn was a young boy, and he was with the group. They killed him at the hands of Harith ibn 'Amir. He had been killed as a disbeliever at the Battle of Badr. As they were putting the weapons in him while he was on the cross, they called out to him and asked him, "Do you love Muhammad more than yourself?" He replied, "No, by Allah Almighty! I would not want him to be pricked with a thorn in place of me." They laughed, and Khubayb said when they put him on the cross, "O Allah, count them and kill them one by one. Do not leave any of them alive." Khubayb ibn 'Adi ibn Rabiah was killed. He was one of the idolaters who had been killed at the Battle of Badr. [Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on a journey with his companions when they became extremely thirsty. Two men from his companions, whom I think were Ali and Zubayr or others, went ahead and found a woman with two water containers on a camel. They said to her, "Answer the call of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." She asked, "Who is the Messenger of Allah, this Jew?" They replied, "He is the one you are addressing, and he is truly the Messenger of Allah." They brought her to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that the water be poured into a vessel made from the two containers. He then asked for the water to be returned to the containers, and ordered the loosening of the knots on the containers. They were opened, and the people were instructed to fill their containers and drink. That day, no vessel or container was left un-filled. Imran said, "It seemed as if it wasn't filled except to be filled." The Prophet ﷺ ordered his garment to be spread out, and his companions brought their provisions until his garment was filled. He told the woman to go, saying, "We did not take anything from your water, but it was Allah who gave us to drink." She went and informed her family, saying, "I have met the most knowledgeable person or indeed he is the Messenger of Allah." The people of that village embraced Islam, as reported in Sahihain from the hadith of Awf ibn Abi Jamilah. The last incident is that the Prophet ﷺ gave a container of water to the one who had an impurity. He said to him, "Go and pour it over yourself while standing and see what happens to its water." This was narrated by Abu Abdullah Al-Haafiz, Ahmad ibn Ja'far Al-Qatti'i, Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and Yahya ibn Sa'id from Awf, mentioning it in a similar manner.

(Using translation from Bukhārī 3045)
