[Machine] We entered the workshop of a blacksmith who was suffering from the burning of seven boils. He said, "Indeed, our predecessors who came before us left this world and nothing from it has diminished them. And indeed, we have experienced what comes after them, and we have found no place for it except the dust." He then added, "We came back to him later as he was building a wall for himself, and he said, 'Indeed, a Muslim is rewarded for everything he spends except for something that he puts in the dust. And if it wasn't for the fact that the Prophet ﷺ prohibited or dissuaded us from praying for death, I would have prayed for it.'"

We went to pay a visit to Khabbab (who was sick) and he had been branded (cauterized) at seven places in his body. He said, "Our companions who died (during the lifetime of the Prophet) left (this world) without having their rewards reduced through enjoying the pleasures of this life, but we have got (so much) wealth that we find no way to spend It except on the construction of buildings Had the Prophet not forbidden us to wish for death, I would have wished for it.' We visited him for the second time while he was building a wall. He said, A Muslim is rewarded (in the Hereafter) for whatever he spends except for something that he spends on building."

[Machine] We entered upon a bricklayer while he was constructing a wall. The Muslim said, "One is rewarded for everything except making it out of this mud." He had been affected by abdominal pain for seven days and said, "If it were not for the Prophet of Allah ﷺ forbidding us from praying for death, I would have prayed for it."

He said, 'If it weren't for the Prophet ﷺ prohibiting us from praying for death, I would have prayed for it. Then Khabbab mentioned the companions who had already passed away, saying that they did not benefit from their rewards at all. We, who continue to live, will only benefit from what we earn until we acquire something in this world that none of us knows how to deal with except to spend it in the path of Allah. [Machine] I entered upon Khubbab, whom I used to visit, and he was suffering from seven burn marks on his belly. Khubbab said, "If it were not for the Prophet ﷺ forbidding us to invoke death, I would have prayed for it. Behold, our companions have passed away and did not receive any worldly benefits. As for us, we have suffered after them to the point that we have no place left on our bodies except for dust. Verily, a person is rewarded for all his spending except for what he spends on this dust." Khubbab said, "And on that day, he (referring to himself) will build a wall for himself."

[Machine] Indeed, the Companions of our Prophet who embraced Islam passed away and did not leave behind any wealth. We have received wealth for which we could not find a place except for the ground. Then we brought it back to him another time, and he was constructing a wall for himself. He said, "Verily, a Muslim is rewarded for every expenditure he makes, except for something he puts in the ground.
