[Machine] We used to trade in the market in the city and call ourselves merchants. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and gave us a better name than what we used to call ourselves. He said, "O merchants, this trade involves falsehood and swearing, so mix it with some charity." By "mix it," he meant to combine it.
كُنَّا نَتَبَايَعُ فِي السُّوقِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَنُسَمِّي أَنْفُسَنَا السَّمَاسِرَةَ فَجَاءَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمَّانَا بِأَحْسَنَ اسْمٍ مِمَّا كُنَّا نُسَمِّي بِهِ أَنْفُسَنَا فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ وَالْحَلِفُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ» يَعْنِي فَشُوبُوهُ اخْلِطُوهُ
