[Machine] The day seemed long to me, so I remembered the person I was speaking to. He said, "Then he started talking to me and said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "There will be a state of unrest, in which the one who is asleep is better than the one who is lying down, and the one who is lying down is better than the one who is sitting, and the one who is sitting is better than the one who is standing, and the one who is standing is better than the one who is walking, and the one who is walking is better than the one who is riding, and the one who is riding is better than the one who is running. All of them will be killed in the fire."' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, when will that be?' He said, 'That will be in the days of chaos.' I said, 'And when are the days of chaos?' He said, 'When a man does not feel safe from his companion.' I said, 'So what do you command me to do if I reach that time?' He said, 'Restrain your tongue and hands, and stay in your home.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what if a man enters my home?' He said, 'Then enter your own house.' I said, 'What if he enters my house?' He said, 'Then go to your mosque and do the same.' And he took hold of his right elbow with his left hand and said, 'My Lord is Allah,' until he died in that state."  

طَالَ عَلَيَّ النَّهَارُ فَذَكَرْتُ مَنْ أَتَحَدَّثُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يُحَدِّثُنِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأُحَدِّثُهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ النَّائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمُضْطَجِعِ وَالْمُضْطَجِعُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ وَالْقَائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ الرَّاكِبِ وَالرَّاكِبُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمُجْرِي قَتْلَاهَا كُلُّهَا فِي النَّارِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَتَى ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَيَّامَ الْهَرْجِ قُلْتُ وَمَتَى أَيَّامُ الْهَرْجِ؟ قَالَ حِينَ لَا يَأْمَنُ الرَّجُلُ جَلِيسَهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي إِنْ أَدْرَكْتُ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ اكْفُفْ نَفْسَكَ وَيَدَكَ وَادْخُلْ دَارَكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَيَّ دَارِي؟ قَالَ فَادْخُلْ بَيْتَكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ بَيْتِي؟ قَالَ فَادْخُلْ مَسْجِدَكَ وَاصْنَعْ هَكَذَا وَقَبَضَ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى الْكُوعِ وَقُلْ رَبِّيَ اللهُ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ  

[Machine] "The day was long for me, so I remembered the person I was speaking to and he started telling me about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I started telling him. He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The one who sleeps during times of turmoil is better than the one who lies down, and the one who lies down is better than the one who sits, and the one who sits is better than the one who stands, and the one who stands is better than the one who walks, and the one who walks is better than the one who rides, and the one who rides is better than the one who runs.'" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, when will that be?" He said, "Those are the days of chaos when a person can't trust his companion." I said, "What do you command me to do if I live to witness that time?" He said, "Restrain your hand and tongue, and stay inside your home." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what if someone enters my home?" He said, "Then enter your room." I said, "What if someone enters my room?" He said, "Then enter your mosque and do this," and he held his right hand over his left forearm and said, "Recite 'My Lord is Allah' until you die doing so."  

طَالَ عَلَيَّ النَّهَارُ فَتَذَكَّرْتُ مَنْ أَتَحَدَّثُ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ يُحَدِّثُنِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأُحَدِّثُهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنِي فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ النَّائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمُضْطَجِعِ وَالْمُضْطَجِعُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ وَالْقَائِمُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ الرَّاكِبِ وَالرَّاكِبُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمُجْرِي» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَتَى ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «ذَلِكَ أَيَّامَ الْهَرْجِ حِينَ لَا يَأْمَنُ الرَّجُلُ جَلِيسَهُ» قُلْتُ فَبِمَ تَأْمُرُنِي إِنْ أَدْرَكْتُ ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانَ؟ قَالَ «اكْفُفْ نَفْسَكَ وَيَدَكَ وَادْخُلْ دَارَكَ» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ دَارِي؟ قَالَ «فَادْخُلْ بَيْتَكَ» قَالَ قُلْتُ أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ بَيْتِي؟ قَالَ «فَادْخُلْ مَسْجِدَكَ وَاصْنَعْ هَكَذَا وَقَبَضَ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى الْكُوعِ وَقُلْ رَبِّيَ اللَّهُ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ»

He then began telling me and said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The one who is asleep during a time of turmoil is better than the one who lies down, and the one who lies down is better than the one who sits, and the one who sits is better than the one who stands, and the one who stands is better than the one who walks, and the one who walks is better than the one who rides; their killings are all in the fire.'' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, when will that be?' He said, 'That will be during the times of turmoil.' I said, 'And when are the times of turmoil?' He said, 'When a person cannot trust their companion.' I said, 'So, what do you command me to do if I live to see that time?' He said, 'Restrain yourself, your hands, and enter your home.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what if someone enters my home?' He said, 'Then enter your masjid and perform prayers in this manner,' or he clutched his right hand onto his left forearm and said, 'My Lord is Allah,' until you die on that.' Al-Dhahabi did not mention what followed this in his summary."  

طَالَ عَلَيَّ النَّهَارُ فَتَذَكَّرْتُ مَنْ أَتَحَدَّثُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يُحَدِّثُنِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأُحَدِّثُهُ ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنِي فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ النَّائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمُضْطَجِعِ وَالْمُضْطَجِعُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ وَالْقَائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ الرَّاكِبِ قَتْلَاهَا كُلُّهَا فِي النَّارِ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَتَى ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «ذَلِكَ أَيَّامَ الْهَرْجِ» قُلْتُ وَمَتَى أَيَّامُ الْهَرْجِ؟ قَالَ «حِينَ لَا يَأْمَنُ الرَّجُلُ جَلِيسَهُ» قُلْتُ فَبِمَ تَأْمُرُنِي إِنْ أَدْرَكْتُ ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانَ؟ قَالَ «اكْفُفْ نَفْسَكَ وَيَدَكَ وَادْخُلْ دَارَكَ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ دَارِي؟ قَالَ «فَادْخُلْ بَيْتَكَ» قُلْتُ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ بَيْتِي؟ قَالَ فَادْخُلْ مَسْجِدَكَ فَاصْنَعْ هَكَذَا أَوْ قَبَضَ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى الْكُوعِ وَقُلْ رَبِّي اللَّهُ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص  

[Machine] The daylight was long on me, so I remembered the person I was speaking to. He said, "Let me tell you about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I will tell him about it." Then, he started telling me and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'During a time of turmoil, the one who is asleep is better than the one who is lying down, and the one who is lying down is better than the one who is sitting, and the one who is sitting is better than the one who is standing, and the one who is standing is better than the one who is walking, and the one who is walking is better than the one who is riding, and the one who is riding is better than the one who is running. Killing in such times is all in the fire." I said, "Oh Messenger of Allah, when will that be?" He said, "During the days of chaos." I said, "And when are the days of chaos?" He said, "When a person does not feel safe with his companion." I said, "So what do you command me to do if I reach that time?" He said, "Control yourself and hold onto your hand, and enter your house." I said, "Oh Messenger of Allah, what if someone enters my house?" He said, "Then enter your mosque and do the same, holding onto your elbow with your right hand and say, 'My Lord is Allah' until you die, like this."  

طَالَ عَلَيَّ النَّهَارُ فَتَذَكَّرْتُ مَنْ أَتَحَدَّثُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يُحَدِّثُنِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأُحَدِّثُهُ ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ يُحَدِّثُنِي فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ النَّائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمُضْطَجِعِ وَالْمُضْطَجِعُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ وَالْقَائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ الرَّاكِبِ وَالرَّاكِبُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمُجْرِي قَتْلَاهَا كُلُّهَا فِي النَّارِ» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَتَى ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «ذَلِكَ أَيَّامَ الْهَرْجِ» قُلْتُ وَمَتَى أَيَّامُ الْهَرْجِ؟ قَالَ «حِينَ لَا يَأْمَنُ الرَّجُلُ جَلِيسَهُ» قُلْتُ فَبِمَ تَأْمُرُنِي إِنْ أَدْرَكْتُ ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانَ؟ قَالَ «اكْفُفْ نَفْسَكَ وَيَدَكَ وَادْخُلْ دَارَكَ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ دَارِي؟ قَالَ «فَادْخُلْ بَيْتَكَ» قُلْتُ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ بَيْتِي؟ قَالَ فَادْخُلْ مَسْجِدَكَ فَاصْنَعْ هَكَذَا وَقَبَضَ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى الْكُوعِ وَقُلْ رَبِّيَ اللهُ حَتَّى تَمُوتَ كَذَلِكَ  

لا تَكُونُ فِتْنَة: النَّائمُ فيها خَيْرٌ مِن المُضْطجِع، والمُضطَجِعُ فيها خَيْرٌ مِنَ القاعِدِ، وَالقَاعِدُ فيها خَيْرٌ مِنَ القائِم، والقائمُ فيها خَيْرٌ من الماشِى، والمَاشِى فيها خَيْرٌ مِنَ الراكِبِ، والراكُب فيها خَيْرٌ مِن المُجرْى، قَتلاها كُلِّهَا في النارِ، قيل: ومتى ذلك؟

قال: ذلك أيَّامُ الهرْج، حين لا يأمَنُ الرَّجُلُ جَلِيسَه قيل: فمَا تأمُرُنِى إِنْ أدركْتُ ذلك؟ قال: (أكفُف يَدَكَ، ونفْسَكَ، وادخُلْ دارَكَ)، قيلَ: أرأيتَ إِنَّ دُخلَ عَلَى بَيتى؟ قال: (فادخُل مسجِدَكَ فقُلْ هكذا) -وَقَبَض بِيَمِينه عَلَى الكُوع-: وَقُلْ: رَبِّى اللَّه؛ حتى تموتَ على ذلك".
