"عَن ابْن مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ لِحَاجته فَقَالَ: الْتَمِسْ لىَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَحْجَارٍ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِحَجَرَيْن وَرَوثَةٍ، فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَتَرَكَ الرَّوْثَةَ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّهَا رجْسٌ. ائْتِنى بحَجَرٍ".
The Prophet ﷺ went out to answer the call of nature and asked me to bring three stones. I found two stones and searched for the third but could not find it. So took a dried piece of dung and brought it to him. He took the two stones and threw away the dung and said, "This is a filthy thing."
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ أَتَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْغَائِطَ فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ آتِيَهُ بِثَلاَثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ فَوَجَدْتُ حَجَرَيْنِ وَالْتَمَسْتُ الثَّالِثَ فَلَمْ أَجِدْهُ فَأَخَذْتُ رَوْثَةً فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَأَلْقَى الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ هَذَا رِكْسٌ وَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ
"Messenger of Allah went out to relieve himself. So he said: 'Bring me tree stones.'" He said, "So I came with two stones and a piece of dung. So he took the two stones, and left the dung. He said: 'It is Riks (a degenerative or filthy thing)."

"The Prophet ﷺ wanted to defecate, and he told me to bring him three stones. I found two stones and looked for a third, but I could not find any, so I picked up a piece of dung and brought them to the Prophet ﷺ. He took the two stones and three away the dung and said: "This is Riks." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasai') said: Riks is the food of the jinn.

"The Messenger of Allah went to the toilet and said: 'Bring me three stones.' So I brought him two stones and a piece of dung. He took the two stones and threw the dung away, saying: 'It is impure.'"
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَتَى الْخَلاَءَ فَقَالَ ائْتِنِي بِثَلاَثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِحَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةٍ فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَأَلْقَى الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ هِيَ رِجْسٌ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ emerged and I was with him. He said to me, "Seek out three stones for me." He said, "I found two stones and a piece of dung." He said, "I brought them to him, so he took the two stones and discarded the dung, saying, 'This is filth.'
بَرَزَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ فَقَالَ لِي الْتَمِسْ لِي ثَلَاثَةَ أَحْجَارٍ قَالَ فَوَجَدْتُ لَهُ حَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةً قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَأَلْقَى الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ هَذِهِ رِكْسٌ

قَالَ أَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يَتَبَرَّزَ قَالَ ائْتِنِي بِثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ فَالْتَمَسْتُ فَوَجَدْتُ حَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةً فَأَمْسَكَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَطَرَحَ الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ إِنَّهَا رِكْسٌ
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ went to fulfill his need and ordered Ibn Masood to bring him three stones. He came back with two stones and a piece of dung, and he threw the dung and said, "This is filth, bring me a stone."

[AI] I was with the Prophet ﷺ on the Night of the Jinn and he said to me, "Find three stones for me." So, I found two stones and a piece of dung for him. He took the two stones and cast away the dung, saying, "This is filth."
كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالَ لِي «الْتَمِسْ لِي ثَلَاثَةَ أَحْجَارٍ» فَوَجَدْتُ لَهُ حَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةً فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَأَلْقَى الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ «هَذَا رِكْسٌ»
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ went to relieve himself and said, "Bring me three stones so that I can perform Istinja with them." So I brought him two stones and some animal dung. He took the two stones and discarded the dung, saying, "It is impure."
خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى الْغَائِطِ فَقَالَ «ائْتِنِي بِثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ أَسْتَنْجِي بِهَا» فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِحَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةٍ فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَرَمَى الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ «إِنَّهَا رِكْسٌ»
[AI] I accompanied the Prophet ﷺ to pick out some stones, and he instructed me to bring him three stones. So, I brought him two stones and a piece of dung. He took the two stones and threw away the dung, saying, "This is worthless."
انْطَلَقْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لِيَتَبَرَّزَ فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ آتِيَهُ بِثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِحَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةٍ فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَطَرَحَ الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ «هَذَا رِكْسٌ»
[AI] "I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he commanded me to bring him three stones. So, I brought him two stones and a piece of animal dung. He took the two stones and discarded the piece of dung, saying, 'Indeed, it is impure.'"
