If anyone takes a bath on Friday, puts on his best clothes, applies a touch of perfume if has any, then goes to congregational prayer (in the mosque), and takes care not to step over people, then prayer what Allah has prescribes for him, then keeps silent from the time his Imam comes out until he finishes his prayer, it will atone for his sins during the previous week. Abu Hurairah said: (It will atone for his sins) for three days more. he further said: One is rewarded ten times for doing a good work. Abu Dawud said: The version narrated by Muhammad b. Salamah is perfect, and Hammad did not make a mention of the statement of Abu Hurairah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 343)

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاسْتَاكَ وَمَسَّ مِنْ طِيبٍ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ وَلَبِسَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ ثِيَابِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ رِقَابَ النَّاسِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ مَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ ثُمَّ أَنْصَتَ إِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ فَلَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي قَبْلَهَا قَالَ وَكَانَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ وَثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ زِيَادَةٌ إِنَّ اللهَ جَعَلَ الْحَسَنَةَ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever performs the ritual bath on the day of Friday and applies perfume if it is available to him, and wears his best clothes, then goes out until he reaches the mosque and prays if he is able to, without causing harm to anyone, then remains quiet when the Imam comes out until he completes the prayer, it will be an expiation for the sins committed between that Friday and the next." And in another narration, Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik As-Sulami reported that Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari, a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever performs the ritual bath on the day of Friday and embellishes himself and goes out with tranquility until he reaches the mosque."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَمَسَّ مِنْ طِيبٍ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ وَلَبِسَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ ثِيَابِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَيَرْكَعَ إِنْ بَدَا لَهُ وَلَمْ يُؤْذِ أَحَدًا ثُمَّ أَنْصَتَ إِذَا خَرَجَ إِمَامُهُ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى وقَالَ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ السُّلَمِيَّحَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَزَادَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ وَعَلَيْهِ السَّكِينَةُ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ

[AI] To me, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Do you know what day is Friday?" I said: "It is the day that Allah brought together your fathers." He said: "But I know what day Friday is. If a person does not perform ritual purification well, then comes to Friday prayers and listens attentively until the Imam finishes his sermon, it will be an expiation for him for the sins committed between that Friday and the previous one, as long as he avoids major sins."

لِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَتَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ؟ قُلْتُ هُوَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي جَمَعَ اللهُ فِيهِ أَبَاكُمْ قَالَ لَكِنِّي أَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ لَا يَتَطَهَّرُ الرَّجُلُ فَيُحْسِنُ طُهُورَهُ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي الْجُمُعَةَ فَيُنْصِتُ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ الْإِمَامُ صَلَاتَهُ إِلَّا كَانَ كَفَّارَةً لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْمُقْبِلَةِ مَا اجْتُنِبَتِ الْمَقْتَلَةُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you know what day is Friday?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." Then he said, "Do you know what day is Friday?" I said, "Yes." He said, "I don't know, it is assumed that it was asked four times whether he knew or not." He said, "I said, it is the day in which your father or your grandfather was gathered." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Shouldn't I inform you about Friday? A Muslim man should not perform ablution and walk to the mosque and then listen until the Imam finishes his prayer, except that it will be an expiation for what is between that and the next Friday, as long as he avoids the major sins."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَتَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ؟ (1 قُلْتُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَتَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ؟ 1) قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي زَعَمَ سَأَلَهُ الرَّابِعَةَ أَمْ لَا قَالَ قُلْتُ هُوَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي جُمِعَ فِيهِ أَبُوهُ أَوْ أَبُوكُمْ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ؟ لَا يَتَطَهَّرُ رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ ثُمَّ يَمْشِي إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ثُمَّ يُنْصِتُ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ الْإِمَامُ صَلَاتَهُ إِلَّا كَانَ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا مَا اجْتُنِبَتِ الْمَقْتَلَةُ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever performs ghusl (ritual bath) on the day of Jumu'ah (Friday), puts on his best clothes, applies perfume if he has it, then goes to Jumu'ah prayer and does not engage in any wrongdoing or cross the lines of others, and then prays whatever Allah wishes him to pray, and remains silent when the Imam comes out, then this is an expiation (kaffarah) for all sins until the next Jumu'ah.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ غَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاسْتَاكَ وَلَبِسَ أَحْسَنَ ثِيَابِهِ وَتَطَيَّبَ بِطِيبٍ إِنْ وَجَدَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ وَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ النَّاسَ فَصَلَّى مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَإِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ سَكَتَ فَذَلِكَ كَفَّارَةٌ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى»

[AI] Narrated Abu Hurairah and Abu Said Al-Khudri: We heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever takes a bath on the day of Jumu'ah (Friday), purifies himself as much as he can, uses perfumes if available, wears the best of his clothes, then goes to the mosque and offers whatever prayer is prescribed and remains silent when the Imam delivers the Khutbah (sermon), his sins between that Friday and the next will be forgiven."

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَا سَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاسْتَنَّ وَمَسَّ مِنْ طِيبٍ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ وَلَبِسَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ ثِيَابِهِ ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ رِقَابَ النَّاسِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ ثُمَّ أَنْصَتَ إِذَا خَرَجَ إِمَامُهُ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً مَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ قَبْلَهَا»

قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا سَلْمَانُ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ ؟ ثَلَاثًا لَا أَدْرِي ذَكَرَ الرَّابِعَةَ أَمْ لَا فِي حَدِيثِ الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالَ هُوَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي اجْتَمَعَ فِيهِ أَبُوكَ أَنَا أُحَدِّثُكَ أَوْ لَا حَدِيثُكَ عَنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَتَوَضَّأُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي الْجُمُعَةَ فَيُنْصِتُ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ الْإِمَامُ صَلَاتَهُ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لَهُ لِمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا مَا اجْتُنِبَتِ الْمَقْتَلَةُ حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال من اغتسل يوم الجمعة ولبس أحسن ثيابه وابتكر ولم يفرق بين اثنين وصلى ما كتب له فإذا خرج الإمام استمع وأنصت كان له ما بينه وبين الجمعة الأُخرَى

[AI] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on Friday, "Whoever performs ablution, puts on perfume if he has it, and wears his best clothes, then goes out to the mosque without stepping over people or engaging in idle talk when the Imam comes out and remains silent, he will be forgiven for what is between that Friday and the next."

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ «مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ وَمَسَّ مِنْ طِيبٍ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ وَلَبِسَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ ثِيَابِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ رِقَابَ النَّاسِ وَأَنْصَتَ إِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ فَلَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying, "Whoever takes a bath on the day of Friday and puts on perfume if he has it, and wears his best clothes, then goes out until he comes to the mosque and prays what is apparent to him and does not harm anyone, then stays silent until the imam comes out, it will be an expiation for what is between that and the next Friday."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَمَسَّ طِيبًا إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ وَلَبِسَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ ثِيَابِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَيَرْكَعَ مَا بَدَا لَهُ وَلَمْ يُؤْذِ أَحَدًا ثُمَّ أَنْصِتَ إِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لَمَّا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Salman, do you know what day Friday is?" I said, "It is the day in which your father or your fathers were gathered." He said, "No, but I will tell you about the day of Friday. There is no Muslim who purifies himself and wears his best clothes, and applies perfume from his family if they have it, then comes to the mosque and listens attentively until the imam comes out, then prays, except that it will be an expiation for him between that Friday and the next, as long as he avoids major sins, and that is for his entire life."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا سَلْمَانُ هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ؟» قُلْتُ هُوَ الَّذِي جُمِعَ فِيهِ أَبُوكَ أَوْ أَبُوكُمْ قَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَتَطَهَّرُ وَيَلْبَسُ أَحْسَنَ ثِيَابِهِ وَيُصِيبُ مِنْ طِيبِ أَهْلِهِ إِنْ كَانَ لَهُمْ طِيبٌ وَإِلَّا فَالْمَاءُ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي الْمَسْجِدَ فَيُنْصِتُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ الْإِمَامُ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي إِلَّا كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لَهُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى مَا اجْتُنِبَتِ الْمَقْتَلَةُ وَذَلِكَ الدَّهْرَ كُلَّهُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever takes a bath on the day of Friday and purifies himself well, then applies perfume and wears his clothes, and does not separate between two people, then he prays what is prescribed for him. When the Imam comes out, he should listen attentively, then he will be forgiven for what is between him and the next Friday."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَحَسَّنَ غُسْلَهُ ثُمَّ مَسَّ مِنْ طِيبٍ وَلَبِسَ مِنْ ثِيَابِهِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يُفَرِّقْ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ فَصَلَّى مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ فَإِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ أَنْصَتَ ثُمَّ اسْتَمَعَ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Whoever takes a bath on the day of Friday, wears his best clothes, applies perfume if he has it, and does not harm or push others, then prays as much as Allah wills. When the imam comes out, he should remain silent. That will serve as an expiation until the next Friday."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاسْتَاكَ وَلَبِسَ أَحْسَنَ ثِيَابِهِ وَتَطَيَّبَ بِطِيبٍ إِنْ وَجَدَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ وَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ رِقَابَ النَّاسِ فَصَلَّى مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَإِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ سَكَتَ فَذَلِكَ كَفَّارَةٌ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, wears his best clothes, and puts on perfume from his family's fragrance, then goes to the mosque without crossing people's necks and offers prayer, and then listens to the Imam, will be absolved of sins between that Friday and the next."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاسْتَاكَ وَلَبِسَ أَحْسَنَ ثِيَابِهِ وَتَطَيَّبَ مِنْ طِيبِ أَهْلِهِ ثُمَّ أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ رِقَابَ النَّاسِ وَصَلَّى فَإِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ أَنْصَتَ كَانَ لَهُ كَفَّارَةً مَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى

"أتدرون ما يومُ الجمعةِ؟ هو اليومُ الذى جُمِعَ فيه أبوكم، إنى أخبركم عن يومِ الجمعة، ما من مسلمٍ يتطهرُ، ثم يمشى إلى المسجد، ثم ينصت حتى يقضى الإِمامُ صلاته إلا كانت له كفَّارة ما بينه وبين الجمعةِ التى قبلها ما اجتنبت المقتلة .

"مَنْ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاسْتَاك وَمَسَّ مِنْ طِيب - إِنْ كَانَ

عِنْدَهُ - وَلَبِسَ مِنْ أَحْسَن ثِيَابهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ حَتَّى يَأتِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ رقَابَ النَّاسِ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ، ثُمَّ أَنْصَتَ إِذَا خَرَجَ الإِمَامُ فَلَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلاتِهِ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا بَينَهَا وَبَينَ الْجُمُعَةِ الأُخْرَى".

"مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَأَحْسَنَ غُسْلَهُ، ثُمَّ مَسَّ مِنْ طِيبِ بَيتِه، وادَّهَن من دُهْنِهِ، وَلَبِسَ مِنْ ثِيَابِهِ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْجُمُعَةَ فَلَمْ يُفرِّق بَينَ اثْنَينِ، وَصَلَّى مَا كْتِبَ لَهُ فَإِذَا خَرَجَ الإِمَامُ أَنْصَتَ ثُمَّ اسْتَمَعَ غُفِرَ لَهُ ما بِينَهُ وَبَينَ الْجُمُعَةِ الأُخْرَى".
