from his father that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Whoever seeks knowledge to contend with the scholars, or to use it to argue with the fools, and to have people's faces turn towards him, then he shall be admitted to the Fire."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُجَارِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ لِيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ أَوْ يَصْرِفَ بِهِ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ أَدْخَلَهُ اللَّهُ النَّارَ

The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever seeks knowledge in order to argue with the foolish, or to show off before the scholars, or to attract people's attention, will be in Hell."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ أَوْ لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ لِيَصْرِفَ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ

The Prophet said: "Do not seek knowledge in order to show off in front of the scholars, or to argue with the foolish, and do not choose the best seat in a gathering, due to it (i.e. the knowledge which you have learned) for whoever does that, the Fire, the Fire (awaits him)."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ تَعَلَّمُوا الْعِلْمَ لِتُبَاهُوا بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَلاَ لِتُمَارُوا بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ وَلاَ تَخَيَّرُوا بِهِ الْمَجَالِسَ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَالنَّارُ النَّارُ

"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Do not acquire knowledge in order to show off before the scholars, or to argue with the foolish, or to attract people's attention, for whoever does that will be in Hell.'"

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever seeks knowledge in order to argue with the foolish, or to show off before the scholars, or to attract people's attention, Allah will admit him to Hell.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ وَيَصْرِفَ بِهِ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ أَدْخَلَهُ اللَّهُ جَهَنَّمَ

[AI] Whoever seeks knowledge for four purposes: to enter into Hell, to boast to scholars, to mock fools, to turn people's faces towards him, or to manipulate rulers.

مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِأَرْبَعٍ دَخَلَ النَّارَ أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةِ لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ لِيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ أَوْ لِيَصْرِفَ بِهِ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ أَوْ لِيَأْخُذَ بِهِ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ

The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever seeks knowledge in order to argue with the foolish, or to show off before the scholars, or to attract people's attention, will be in Hell." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 253)

«مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ وَلِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ لِيَصْرِفَ بِهِ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ فَهُوَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ»

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تَعَلَّمُوا الْعِلْمَ لِتُبَاهُوا بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَلَا تُمَارُوا بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ وَلَا تَخَيَّرُوا بِهِ الْمَجَالِسَ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَالنَّارَ النَّارَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever seeks knowledge for one of three reasons will be afflicted by it: to impress fools, to show off to the scholars, or to attract people's attention to himself. He will be spoken harshly about."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِإِحْدَى ثَلَاثٍ يُمَارِي بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ أَوْ يُبَاهِي بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ يَسْتَجِيرُ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ فِيهِ كَلَامًا شَدِيدًا

[AI] "From the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , he said: 'Whoever seeks knowledge to show off to the scholars and to argue with the ignorant in gatherings, will not scent the fragrance of Paradise.'"

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ فِي الْمَجَالِسِ لَمْ يَرَحْ رَائِحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ»

[AI] From the Prophet, ﷺ , He said: "Whoever learns knowledge to show off to scholars and compete with fools, he is in the Fire."

مَنْ طَلَبَ الْحَدِيثَ لِيُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ أَوْ لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ لِيَصْرِفَ بِهِ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ

"مَن ابْتَغَى العِلمَ لِيُبَاهِى به العُلَمَاءَ، أَوْ يُمارِى بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، أَوْ يُقْبلَ أَفْئِدَةَ النَّاسِ إِلَيهِ، فَإِلَى النَّار".

"مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلمَ لِيُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعلَمَاءَ أَوْ يمَارِى بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، أَوْ يَصْرِفَ بِهِ وجُوْهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيهِ أَدْخَلَهُ اللهُ جَهَنَّم".

"مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلمَ لِيُبَاهِى بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ لِيُمَارِى بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، أَوْ يَصْرِفَ بِهِ وجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيهِ فَهُوَ في النَّارِ".

"مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلمَ لِيُبَاهِي بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ أَوْ يُمَارِى بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ فَهُوَ في النَّارِ".

"مَنْ طَلَبَ الْعِلْمَ لِيُبَاهِي بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ، أَوْ يُمَارِي بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ فِي الْمَجَالِسِ، لَمْ يَرَحْ رَائِحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ".

"مَنْ طَلَبَ عِلْمًا لِيُبَاهِي بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ، فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ".

"مَنْ طَلَبَ العِلْمَ لإِحْدَى ثَلاثٍ: لِيُجَارِي بِهِ العُلَمَاءَ، أَوْ لِيُمَارِي بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، وَيَصْرِفَ بِهِ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيهِ أَدْخَلَهُ اللهُ النَّارَ".

"مَنْ طَلَبَ العِلْمَ لِيُمَارِي بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، أَوْ يُكَاثِرَ بهِ العُلَمَاءَ، أَوْ يَصْرِفَ بِهِ وجُوهَ النَّاسِ إِلَيهِ فلْيَتَبَوَّأ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ".

"مَنْ طَلَبَ عِلمًا يُبَاهِي بِهِ النَّاسَ، فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ".

"لَا تَعَلَّمُوا الْعِلمَ لِتُبَاهُوا بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ، أَوْ لِتُمَارُوا بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، أَوْ لِتَصْرِفُوا وُجُوَه النَّاسِ إِلَيكُمْ، فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذلِكَ فَهُوَ في النَّارِ".

"لَا تَعَلَّمُوا الْعِلمَ لِتُبَاهُوا بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ، وَلَا لِتُمَارُوا بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، وَلَا لتجتروا (*) بِهِ الْمَجَالِسَ، فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَالنَّارَ النَّارَ".
