"The Messenger of Allah used to fast until we said: 'He will not break his fast.' And he used not to fast until we said: 'He will not fast.' And I never saw the Messenger of Allah fast more in any month than in Shaban."  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُفْطِرُ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يَصُومُ وَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي شَهْرٍ أَكْثَرَ صِيَامًا مِنْهُ فِي شَعْبَانَ  

I asked Sa'id b. Jubair about fasting during Rajab. He said: Ibn 'Abbas told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast to such an extent that we thought that he would never break his fast; and he would go without fasting to such an extent that we thought he would never fast.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لاَ يُفْطِرُ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لاَ يَصُومُ  

I asked Sa'id b. Jubair about fasting during Rajab. He said: Ibn 'Abbas told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast to such an extent that we thought that he would never break his fast; and he would go without fasting to such an extent that we thought he would never fast. عَنْ صَوْمِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَطَوُّعًا قَالَ كَانَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لَا يُفْطِرُ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لَا يَصُومُ  

I asked Sa'id b. Jubair about fasting during Rajab. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لَا يُفْطِرُ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لَا يَصُومُ  

"The Messenger of Allah would fast until we said he would not break his fast, and he would not fast until we said he does not want to fast. And he never fasted any month in full apart from Ramadan, from the time he came to Al-Madinah." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2346)  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ لَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصُومَ وَمَا صَامَ شَهْرًا مُتَتَابِعًا غَيْرَ رَمَضَانَ مُنْذُ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ  

[Machine] I heard Aisha saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast to the extent that we would say he would not break his fast, and he would break his fast to the extent that we would say he would not fast. And he used to recite in every night (prayer) the chapters of Bani Israel and Az-Zumar."  

سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصُومَ وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَالزُّمَرِ  

[Machine] I heard Aisha say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast until we would say he doesn't want to break the fast, and he would break his fast until we would say he doesn't want to fast. And he used to recite the Qur'an every night with the Banu Isra'il and Az-Zumar."  

سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصُومَ وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَالزُّمَرِ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصُومَ»  

"The Messenger of Allah used to fast until we said: 'He does not want to break his fast.' And he used not to fast until we said: 'He does not want to fast."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2347)
