"There was no rain for a year, so some of the Muslims went to the Prophet ﷺ one Friday and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, there has been no rain; the land has become bare and our wealth has been destroyed.' He raised his hands, and we did not see any cloud in the sky. He stretched forth his hands until I could see the whiteness of his armpits, praying to Allah (SWT) for rain. When we finished praying Jumu'ah, even a young man whose house nearby was worried about how he would get home. That lasted for a week, then on the following Friday they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, houses have been destroyed and all travel has been ceased.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled at how quickly the sons of Adam become weary, and he said with his hands raised: 'O Allah, around us and not on us,' and it dispersed from Al-Madinah." قَامَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بَعْضُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَحَطَ الْمَطَرُ أَجْدَبَتِ الْأَرْضُ هَلَكَ الْمَالُ قَالَ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَرَفَعَيَدَيْهِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ بَيَاضَ إِبْطَيْهِ وَمَا نَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ سَحَابَةً فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى حَتَّى جَعَلَ يَهُمُّ الْقَرِيبُ الدَّارِ الرُّجُوعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ مِنْ شِدَّةِ الْمَطَرِ قَالَ فَمَكَثْنَا سَبْعًا فَلَمَّا كَانَتِ الْجُمُعَةُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تَهَدَّمَتِ الْبُيُوتُ وَاحْتَبَسَ الرُّكْبَانُ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اللهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا قَالَ فَتَكَشَّفَتْ عَنِ الْمَدِينَةِ

Anas said, "No rain fell for a year and so one of the Muslims went to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on Jumu'a (Friday). He said, 'Messenger of Allah, there has been no rain and the ground is dry and people's wealth has been destroyed.' He raised his hand when there was not a cloud to be seen in the sky. He stretched out his arms until I could see the whiteness of his armpits and asked Allah for rain. As soon as we finished the prayer, (the rain was such that) the youth whose house was near was afraid to return to his family. It last past Friday, The following Friday, they said, 'Messenger of Allah, the houses have fallen down and the paths are blocked.' He smiled and observed how quickly the son of Adam becomes discontented. He said while making a gesture with his hand, 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' And the rain cleared away from Madina."

"عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ أنَسٌ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ! شَكَى النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ ذَاتَ يَوْمِ جُمُعَةٍ فَقَالُوا: يا رَسُولَ الله! قَحَطَ الْمَطَرُ وَأَجْذَبَتِ الأرْضُ وَهَلَكَ الْمَالُ، فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْه حَتَّى رَأيْتُ بَيَاضَ إِبِطيْه وَمَا فِى السَّماءِ قَزَعَةُ سَحَابٍ (*) فَمَا صَلَّيْنَا حَتَّى إِنَّ الشَّابَّ الْقَوِىَّ الْقَرِيبَ الْمَنْزِل لَيُهِمُّهُ الرُّجُوعُ إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ، فَدَامَ عَلَيْنَا جُمُعَة تَهَدَّمَتِ الدُّورُ، واحْتُبِسَ الرُّكْبَانُ، فتَبسمَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ مِنْ سُرْعَةِ مَلالَةِ (* *) ابْنِ آدَمَ. فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلاَ عَلَيْنَا".
