BAYHAQI 1301:
from Usāmah —
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Al-Aswaf and went to fulfill his need, then he left. Usamah asked Bilal, "What did he do?" Bilal said, "The Prophet ﷺ went to fulfill his need, then he performed ablution by washing his face, hands, and wiped his head. He also wiped over his socks." The scholar, may Allah have mercy upon him, said, "Al-Aswaf is a wall in the city." Al-Shafi'i said, "In the hadith of Bilal, it is evidence that the Prophet ﷺ wiped over his socks in the city, because Bilal carried water in the city." The scholar said, "The hadith of Ali and others regarding the timing is evidence for the permissibility of wiping over socks in the city."
