from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Leave me as I leave you, for the people who were before you were ruined because of their ˹excessive˺ questions and their differences over their prophets. So, if I forbid you to do something, then keep away from it. And if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «دَعُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ، إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلاَفِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ، فَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَىْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ وَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ».

that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Whatever I have forbidden you, avoid it; and whatever I have commanded you to do, do of it as much as you are able. For indeed, what destroyed those before you was their asking too many questions and their disagreement with their prophets.”

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «مَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ، وَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ فَافْعَلُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ: فَإِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ كَثْرَةُ مَسَائِلِهِمْ وَاخْتِلاَفُهُمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ».

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said: “O people, Allah has made Hajj obligatory upon you, so perform Hajj.” A man said, “Every year, O Messenger of Allah?” He remained silent until he said it three times. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “If I were to say yes, it would become obligatory, and you would not be able to do it.”

Then he said: “˹Accept˺ what I have left ˹for˺ you ˹as is˺, for those before you were destroyed by their excessive questioning and their disagreement with their prophets. So when I command you to do something, do of it what you are able, and when I forbid you from something, then avoid it.”

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، قَدْ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمُ الْحَجَّ فَحُجُّوا». فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَكُلَّ عَامٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى قَالَهَا ثَلاَثًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ وَلَمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ». 

ثُمَّ قَالَ: «ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ، فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلاَفِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ۔ فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِشَىْءٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ، وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَىْءٍ فَدَعُوهُ».

"The Messenger of Allah addressed the people and said: 'Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined upon you Hajj.' A man said: 'Every year?' He remained silent until he had repeated it three times. Then he said: 'If I said yes, it would be obligatory, and if it were obligatory you would not be able to do it. Leave me alone so long as I have left you alone. Those who came before you were destroyed because they asked too many questions and differed with their prophets. If I command you to do something then follow it as much as you can, and if I forbid you to do something then avoid it."'

خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ قَدْ فَرَضَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْحَجَّ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ حَتَّى أَعَادَهُ ثَلاَثًا فَقَالَ لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ وَلَوْ وَجَبَتْ مَا قُمْتُمْ بِهَا ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلاَفِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِالشَّىْءِ فَخُذُوا بِهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَىْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Leave me with what I left you. When I narrated a Hadith to you, then take it from me. The people before you were only destroyed by their excessive questioning and disagreeing with their Prophets."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اتْرُكُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِذَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ فَخُذُوا عَنِّي فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلاَفِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ

The Prophet said: "Leave me as I have left you (Don't ask me the minor things that I have avoided to tell you). For those who came before you were doomed because of their questions and differences with their Prophets. If I commanded you to do something, then do as much of it as you can, and if I forbid you from doing something, then refrain from it."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَاأَمَرْتُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ

[Machine] I heard Abu al-Qasim ﷺ saying, "Leave me what I have left for you. Indeed, those who were before you perished due to their excessive questioning and differing regarding their prophets. So when I command you with a matter, do what you can to fulfill it, and when I forbid you from doing something, avoid it."

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ يَقُولُ ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ فَأْتُوهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ أَمْرٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Leave me as long as I have left you. The people of the Scripture before you were destroyed because of their continuous disputes among their prophets, and their excessive questioning. So, follow what I have commanded you to do as much as you are able, and leave what I have forbidden you.'"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ قَبْلَكُمْ أَوْ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ اخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ وَكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ فَانْظُرُوا مَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَمَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَدَعُوهُ أَوْ ذَرُوهُ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Leave me with what I left you. When I narrated a Hadith to you, then take it from me. The people before you were only destroyed by their excessive questioning and disagreeing with their Prophets." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2679)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said: O people, Allah has made Hajj obligatory for you; so perform Hajj. Thereupon a person said: Messenger of Allah, (is it to be performed) every year? He (the Holy Prophet) kept quiet, and he repeated (these words) thrice, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If I were to say" Yes," it would become obligatory (for you to perform it every year) and you would not be able to do it. Then he said: Leave me with what I have left to you, for those who were before you were desroyed because of excessive questioning, and their opposition to their apostles. So when I command you to do anything, do it as much as it lies in your power and when I forbid you to do anything, then abandon it. (Using translation from Muslim 1337)

وَقَالَ مَرَّةً خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ قَدْ فَرَضَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْحَجَّ فَحُجُّوا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَكُلَّ عَامٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ وَلَمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَدَعُوهُ

The Prophet said: "Leave me as I have left you (Don't ask me the minor things that I have avoided to tell you). For those who came before you were doomed because of their questions and differences with their Prophets. If I commanded you to do something, then do as much of it as you can, and if I forbid you from doing something, then refrain from it." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَمَا أُمِرْتُمْ فَأَتَوْا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَمَا نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا»

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave me with what I have left you with, for indeed those who came before you were destroyed due to their excessive questioning and disputes regarding their prophets. I have prohibited you from certain things, so refrain from them, and I have commanded you with certain things, so fulfill them to the best of your ability."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ مَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا وَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ»

Avoid that which I forbid you to do and do that which I command you to do to the best of your capacity. Verily the people before you went to their doom because they had put too many questions to their Prophets and then disagreed with their teachings. (Using translation from Muslim 1337b)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ سُؤَالُهُمْ وَاخْتِلَافُهُمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ وَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whatever I have forbidden you from, refrain from it. And whatever I have commanded you to do, do it to the best of your ability."

خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ فَرَضَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْحَجَّ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَفِي كُلِّ عَامٍ؟ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ حَتَّى أَعَادَهُ ثَلَاثًا فَقَالَ «لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ وَلَوْ وَجَبَتْ مَا قُمْتُمْ بِهَا ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِالشَّيْءِ فَخُذُوا بِهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ»

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave me as I leave you, for the people who were before you were ruined because of their questions and their differences over their prophets. وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ وَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ وَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِالْأَمْرِ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم ذروني ما وذرتكم فإنما هلك من كان قبلكم بسؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم وَلكن ما نهيتكم عنه فانتهوا وما أمرتكم به فأتوا منه ما استطعتم

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قال يا أيها الناس اتركوني ما تركتكم إنما هلك من كان قبلكم بكثرة سؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم ما أمرتكم به فاعملوا منه ما استطعتم وما نهيتكم عنه فانتهوا

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قال ذروني ما تركتم فإنما هلك من كان قبلكم بسؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم ما نهيتكم عنه فانتهوا وما أمرتكم به فخذوا منه ما استطعتم

اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إنما هلك من كان قبلكم بكثرة سؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم فإذا نهيتكم عن شيء فاجتنبوه وإذا أمرتكم بأمر فأتوا أحسبه قال منه ما استطعتم

يحدث أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم يقول ما نهيتكم عنه فاجتنبوه وما أمرتكم به فأتوا منه ما استطعتم فإنما هلك من كان قبلكم بكثرة مسائلهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم

"مَا نَهَيتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ ومَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِه فَافْعَلُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ، فإِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ كثْرَةُ مَسَائِلهِمْ وَاختِلافِهمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ".

"أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ افْتَرَص عَلَيكُمْ الحَجَّ، لقَال رَجُلٌ: أَكُلَّ عَامٍ؟

قَال: لَوْ قُلتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ ، وَلَوْ وَجَبَتْ مَا قُمْتُمْ بهَا ذَرُونِى- مَا تَرَكتُكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ الذين قَبْلَكُمْ بكَثْرَةِ سُؤالِهم وَاخْتِلَافِهم عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهم، فَإِذَا نَهَيتُكُمْ عَنْ شيءٍ فَاجْتَنَبُوه، وَإذَا أمَرْتُكُمْ بشيءٍ فَأتُوا منْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ".

"ذَرُونِى مَا تَرَكتُكُمْ؛ فَإنَّمَا هَلَك مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَة سَؤَالِهِمْ، وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِم، فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِشْئٍ فَأَتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ، وَإِذَا نهيتُكُمْ عَن شَىْءٍ فَدَعُوهُ".

"ذَرُونِى مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ، فإِنَّما أَهْلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ اخْتِلَافُهُمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ، فَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِشَىْءٍ فَأْتُوهُ، وَإذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَىْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ".

"ذَرُونى مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ، فَإنَّما هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ أَنْبِياءَهُمْ، وَاخْتِلافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهمْ فَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ مِنْ شَئٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ, وَمَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا".

"ذَرُونِى مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ؛ فإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أنْبِيَائِهِمْ، فَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ فَأتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ، أَو نَهَيْتُكم عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا، وَمَا أخبَرْتُكُمَ أَنَّهُ مِنْ عِنْد اللَّهِ فَهُوَ الَّذِى لَا شَك فيهِ".
