٢۔ كِتَابُ الْعِلْمِ
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2646)
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا فِيهِ يَلْتَمِسُ عِلْمًا سَهَّلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ طَرِيقًا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ»
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Know your lineage, maintain your ties of kinship. For there is no relationship for the one whose ties of kinship have been cut, even if they were close, nor distance for the one whose ties of kinship have been maintained, even if they were far."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اعْرِفُوا أَنْسَابَكُمْ تَصِلُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ لَا قُرْبَ لِرَحِمٍ إِذَا قُطِعَتْ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ قَرِيبَةً وَلَا بُعْدَ لَهَا إِذَا وُصِلَتْ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ بَعِيدَةً»
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Learn about your lineage, so you can maintain your family ties." Ali ibn 'Isa al-Hiri reported to us, Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad narrated, "I heard Muhammad ibn Yahya say that Abu al-Asbat al-Harithi is Bashir ibn Rafi'."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «تَعَلَّمُوا أَنْسَابَكُمْ تَصِلُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ» حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى الْحِيرِيُّ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ يَحْيَى يَقُولُ أَبُو الْأَسْبَاطِ الْحَارِثِيُّ هُوَ بِشْرُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which cities are the worst?" The Prophet replied, "I do not know." When Gabriel (the angel) came to him, he said, "O Gabriel, which cities are the worst?" Gabriel replied, "I do not know until I ask my Lord." Then Gabriel left and stayed as long as Allah willed, then he returned and said, "O Muhammad, you asked me which cities are the worst? And I said, 'I do not know' and I asked my Lord. He replied, 'The worst of them are the markets.'" This hadith has been transmitted by all narrators, except Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil. Al-Bukhari has unique narration with Abu Hudhaifah as the witness. This hadith is the origin for the saying of the scholar, "I do not know," and it has a witness from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil. Al-Dhahabi did not mention it in his summary.
أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ فَقَالَ «لَا أَدْرِي» فَلَمَّا أَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ «يَا جِبْرِيلُ أَيُّ الْبُلْدَانِ شَرٌّ؟» قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ رَبِّي فَانْطَلَقَ جِبْرِيلُ فَمَكَثَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَمْكُثَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّكَ سَأَلْتَنِي أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ وَإِنِّي قُلْتُ لَا أَدْرِي وَإِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي فَقُلْتُ أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ فَقَالَ «أَسْوَاقُهَا» قَدِ احْتَجَّا جَمِيعًا بِرُوَاةِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ إِلَّا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ وَقَدْ تَفَرَّدَ الْبُخَارِيُّ بِالِاحْتِجَاجِ بِأَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ أَصْلٌ فِي قَوْلِ الْعَالِمِ لَا أَدْرِي وَلَهُ شَاهِدٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, which land is the worst?" He ﷺ said, "I do not know." When Gabriel came to Muhammad ﷺ , he said, "O Gabriel, which land is the worst?" Gabriel replied, "I do not know until I ask my Lord." So Gabriel went and stayed as long as Allah willed, then he came back and said, "O Muhammad, you asked me which land is the worst? Indeed, it is its markets. 'Amr ibn Thabit is the son of Abu al-Miqdam al-Kufi, and he is not one of the two sheikhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim). I mentioned him as a witness, and the narration is from Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, who urged me to mention him. But I have doubted the authenticity of this narration from multiple aspects."
أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ قَالَ «لَا أَدْرِي» فَلَمَّا أَتَى جِبْرِيلُ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ قَالَ يَا جِبْرِيلُ أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ رَبِّي فَانْطَلَقَ جِبْرِيلُ فَمَكَثَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَمْكُثَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ سَأَلْتَنِي أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ وَإِنِّي قُلْتُ لَا أَدْرِي وَإِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ فَقَالَ «أَسْوَاقُهَا» «عَمْرُو بْنُ ثَابِتٍ هَذَا هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي الْمِقْدَامِ الْكُوفِيُّ وَلَيْسَ مِنْ شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَإِنَّمَا ذَكَرْتُهُ شَاهِدًا وَرِوَايَةُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْهُ حَتَّى حَثَّنِي عَلَى إِخْرَاجِهِ فَإِنِّي قَدْ عَلَوْتُ فِيهِ مِنْ وَجْهٍ لَا يُعْتَمَدُ»
[Machine] About him is Abdul Samad bin Al-Nu'man and he is weak.
عنه عبد الصمد بن النعمان وهو ضعيف
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, which places are better?" The Prophet replied, "I don't know." The man then asked, "Which places are worse?" again the Prophet replied, "I don't know." The man advised him to ask his Lord, so when Gabriel descended, the Prophet said, "I was asked about the better places and the worse places, but I didn't know." Gabriel said, "I also don't know until I ask my Lord." Suddenly, Gabriel shuddered and almost got shocked, then Allah said to Gabriel, "O Gabriel, Muhammad is asking you which places are better." Gabriel replied, "I don't know." Then the Prophet asked, "Which places are worse?" and Gabriel replied, "I don't know. However, the best places are the mosques and the worst places are the markets."
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْبِقَاعِ خَيْرٌ؟ فَقَالَ «لَا أَدْرِي» فَقَالَ أَيُّ الْبِقَاعِ شَرٌّ؟ فَقَالَ «لَا أَدْرِي» فَقَالَ سَلْ رَبَّكَ قَالَ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنِّي سُئِلْتُ أَيُّ الْبِقَاعِ خَيْرٌ وَأَيُّ الْبِقَاعِ شَرٌّ؟ فَقُلْتُ لَا أَدْرِي فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ وَأَنَا لَا أَدْرِي حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ رَبِّي قَالَ فَانْتَفَضَ جِبْرِيلُ انْتِفَاضَةً كَادَ أَنْ يُصْعَقَ مِنْهَا مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ يَا جِبْرِيلُ يَسْأَلُكَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَيُّ الْبِقَاعِ خَيْرٌ؟ فَقُلْتَ لَا أَدْرِي فَسَأَلَكَ أَيُّ الْبِقَاعِ شَرٌّ فَقُلْتَ لَا أَدْرِي وَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الْبِقَاعِ الْمَسَاجِدُ وَشَرَّ الْبِقَاعِ الْأَسْوَاقُ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "People will soon beat the backs of camels but will not find a knowledgeable person more knowledgeable than the knowledgeable person of Madinah."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يُوشِكُ النَّاسُ أَنْ يَضْرِبُوا أَكْبَادَ الْإِبِلِ فَلَا يَجِدُونَ عَالِمًا أَعْلَمَ مِنْ عَالِمِ الْمَدِينَةِ»
[Machine] "To strike the livers of camels." This is not something that weakens the hadith, for Al-Humaydi is the authority in his hadith due to his knowledge and his frequent adherence to it. Ibn 'Uyaynah used to say, "We consider this scholar, Maalik ibn Anas."
أَنْ يَضْرِبُوا أَكْبَادَ الْإِبِلِ» الْحَدِيثَ وَلَيْسَ هَذَا مِمَّا يُوهِنُ الْحَدِيثَ فَإِنَّ الْحُمَيْدِيَّ هُوَ الْحَكَمُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ لِمَعْرِفَتِهِ بِهِ وَكَثْرَةِ مُلَازَمَتِهِ لَهُ وَقَدْ كَانَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ يَقُولُ نَرَى هَذَا الْعَالِمَ مَالِكَ بْنَ أَنَسٍ
[Machine] "From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: 'Whoever comes to our mosque to learn or teach, then he is like a Mujahid in the way of Allah. And whoever comes for other than this, he is like a person who sees something he likes but does not possess it. Perhaps he will say: 'He sees those who are praying but he is not one of them, and he sees those who are remembering Allah but he is not one of them.' This hadith was narrated by Abu Sa'd and it is on their conditions (referring to the narrators) and I do not know any faults in it."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ جَاءَ مَسْجِدَنَا هَذَا يَتَعَلَّمُ خَيْرًا أَوْ يُعَلِّمُهُ فَهُوَ كَالْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ جَاءَ بِغَيْرِ هَذَا كَانَ كَالرَّجُلِ يَرَى الشَّيْءَ يُعْجِبُهُ وَلَيْسَ لَهُ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ يَرَى الْمُصَلِّينَ وَلَيْسَ مِنْهُمْ وَيَرَى الذَّاكِرِينَ وَلَيْسَ مِنْهُمْ تابعه حيوة عن أبي صخر وهو على شرطهما ولا أعلم له علة
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard saying: "Whoever enters our mosque to learn or teach something good, he is like a warrior in the cause of Allah, and whoever enters it for any other reason, he is like someone who looks at what does not belong to him."
سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ دَخَلَ مَسْجِدَنَا هَذَا لِيَتَعَلَّمَ خَيْرًا أَوْ يُعَلِّمَهُ كَانَ كَالْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ دَخَلَهُ بِغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ كَانَ كَالنَّاظِرِ إِلَى مَا لَيْسَ لَهُ»
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever goes to the mosque desiring only to learn good or to teach it, will have the reward of a complete Umrah pilgrimage. And whoever goes to the mosque desiring only to learn good or to teach it, will have the reward of a complete Hajj pilgrimage." (Bukhari has cited Thawr bin Yazid in his book "Al-Usul", and Muslim has mentioned it in "Al-Shawahid". As for Thawr bin Yazid Al-Daili, there is agreement on its authenticity according to Al-Bukhari's criteria.)
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ غَدَا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ لَا يُرِيدُ إِلَّا لِيَتَعَلَّمَ خَيْرًا أَوْ يَعْلَمَهُ كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُ مُعْتَمِرٍ تَامِّ الْعُمْرَةِ فَمَنْ رَاحَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ لَا يُرِيدُ إِلَّا لِيَتَعَلَّمَ خَيْرًا أَوْ يُعَلِّمَهُ فَلَهُ أَجْرُ حَاجٍّ تَامِّ الْحِجَّةِ» «قَدِ احْتَجَّ الْبُخَارِيُّ بِثَوْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ فِي الْأُصُولِ وَخَرَّجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الشَّوَاهِدِ فَأَمَّا ثَوْرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الدِّيلِيُّ فَإِنَّهُ مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ» على شرط البخاري
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Two are never satisfied- one who is consumed by knowledge can never be satisfied, and one who is consumed by worldly desires can never be satisfied."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْهُومَانِ لَا يَشْبَعَانِ مَنْهُومٌ فِي عِلْمٍ لَا يَشْبَعُ وَمَنْهُومٌ فِي دُنْيَا لَا يَشْبَعُ «»
[Machine] Abu Huraira came to Ka'b to ask about someone, and Ka'b was among the people. Ka'b asked, "What do you want from him?" Abu Huraira replied, "I do not know anyone from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who preserves his hadiths better than me." Ka'b responded, "Indeed, you have not found anyone who seeks something without being satisfied with it for a day in his entire life, except for a seeker of knowledge and a seeker of worldly gains." Then he said to Abu Huraira, "You are Ka'b, so I have come for something like this."
جَاءَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ إِلَى كَعْبٍ يَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ وَكَعْبٌ فِي الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ كَعْبٌ «مَا تُرِيدُ مِنْهُ؟» فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنِّي لَا أَعْرِفُ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَكُونُ أَحْفَظَ لِحَدِيثِهِ مِنِّي فَقَالَ كَعْبٌ «أَمَا إِنَّكَ لَمْ تَجِدْ أَحَدًا يَطْلُبُ شَيْئًا إِلَّا يَشْبَعُ مِنْهُ يَوْمًا مِنَ الدَّهْرِ إِلَّا طَالِبَ عِلْمٍ وَطَالِبَ دُنْيَا» فَقَالَ أَنْتَ كَعْبٌ فَإِنِّي لِمِثْلِ هَذَا جِئْتُ
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "The virtue of knowledge is dearer to me than the virtue of worship, and the best of your religion is being cautious and mindful."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «فَضْلُ الْعِلْمِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ فَضْلِ الْعِبَادَةِ وَخَيْرُ دِينِكُمُ الْوَرَعُ»
[Machine] About Mus'ab ibn Sa'd, he mentioned him without mentioning the judge.
عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ فَذَكَرَهُ بِنَحْوِهِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الْحَكَمَ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said as follows: "Then we looked and found Khalid bin Makhlad to be more steadfast, cautious, and trustworthy than Bakr bin Bakkir, so we appointed him to the extra task." This hadith was narrated by Abdullah bin Abdul-Qudus, transmitted by Al-A'mash with another chain of narration.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ نَحْوَهُ «ثُمَّ نَظَرْنَا فَوَجَدْنَا خَالِدَ بْنَ مَخْلَدٍ أَثْبَتَ وَأَحْفَظَ وَأَوْثَقَ مِنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ بَكَّارٍ فَحَكَمْنَا لَهُ بِالزِّيَادَةِ» وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْقُدُّوسِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ بِإِسْنَادٍ آخَرَعلى شرطهما
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The superiority of knowledge is better than the superiority of worship, and the best of your religion is piety."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «فَضْلُ الْعِلْمِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ فَضْلِ الْعِبَادَةِ وَخَيْرُ دِينِكُمُ الْوَرَعُ»
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ addressed the people during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said, "Satan has despaired of being worshipped in your land. However, he is content to be obeyed in matters other than that which you belittle from your actions. So beware, O people, I have left among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray—the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ. Indeed, every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. The Muslims are brothers to one another and it is not permissible for a person to take from his brother's wealth except what is given willingly. Do not wrong one another, nor turn back as disbelievers after me. Some of you strike the necks of others." Al-Bukhari has cited this hadith through the narration of 'Ikrimah, and Muslim has cited it through the narration of Abu Uwais and through other narrators. This hadith, regarding the Prophet's sermon, is agreed upon to have been included in the authentic collections.
The mention of holding fast to the Sunnah in this sermon is strange and requires emphasis. I have found evidence for it in a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah. Al-Bukhari has cited it through 'Umar and 'Ali, and Muslim has cited it through Abu Hurairah.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ فَقَالَ «قَدْ يَئِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ بِأَنْ يُعْبَدَ بِأَرْضِكُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُ رَضِيَ أَنْ يُطَاعَ فِيمَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ مِمَّا تُحَاقِرُونَ مِنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ فَاحْذَرُوا يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي قَدْ تَرَكْتُ فِيكُمْ مَا إِنِ اعْتَصَمْتُمْ بِهِ فَلَنْ تَضِلُّوا أَبَدًا كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ كُلَّ مُسْلِمٍ أَخٌ مُسْلِمٌ الْمُسْلِمُونَ إِخْوَةٌ وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرِئٍ مِنْ مَالِ أَخِيهِ إِلَّا مَا أَعْطَاهُ عَنْ طِيبِ نَفْسٍ وَلَا تَظْلِمُوا وَلَا تَرْجِعُوا مِنْ بَعْدِي كُفَّارًا يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُكُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ» وَقَدِ احْتَجَّ الْبُخَارِيُّ بِأَحَادِيثِ عِكْرِمَةَ وَاحْتَجَّ مُسْلِمٌ بِأَبِي أُوَيْسٍ وَسَائِرُ رُوَاتِهِ مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لِخُطْبَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَى إِخْرَاجِهِ فِي الصَّحِيحِ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي قَدْ تَرَكْتُ فِيكُمْ مَا لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُ إِنِ اعْتَصَمْتُمْ بِهِ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَأَنْتُمْ مَسْئُولُونَ عَنِّي فَمَا أَنْتُمْ قَائِلُونَ؟» وَذِكْرُ الِاعْتِصَامِ بِالسُّنَّةِ فِي هَذِهِ الْخُطْبَةِ غَرِيبٌ وَيَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهَا وَقَدْ وَجَدْتُ لَهُ شَاهِدًا مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَاحتج البخاري بعكرمة واحتج مسلم بأبي أويس عبد الله وله أصل في الصحيح
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, I have left among you two things that you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. And they will never separate from each other until they meet me at the Pond."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنِّي قَدْ تَرَكْتُ فِيكُمْ شَيْئَيْنِ لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُمَا كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّتِي وَلَنْ يَتَفَرَّقَا حَتَّى يَرِدَا عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ
"There were two brothers during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One of them used to come to the prophet ﷺ, and the other had some business. The businessman among them complained to the Prophet ﷺ about his brother, so he said:'Perhaps you are provided for because of him.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2345)
كَانَ أَخَوَانِ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَكَانَ أَحَدُهُمَا يَأْتِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَالْآخَرُ يَحْتَرِفُ فَشَكَا الْمُحْتَرِفُ أَخَاهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «لَعَلَّكَ تُرْزَقُ بِهِ»
[Machine] "Bring me the clothes of my servant, so he brought them to me, and then he entered the Mosque of Homs and performed two units of prayer. When he finished, he found people sitting, so he asked them, 'What made you sit here?' They replied, 'We have prayed the obligatory prayer.' Then the storyteller began his tale, and when he finished, we sat discussing the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Muawiyah said, 'No man has retained fewer narrations from the Prophet ﷺ than me. I will tell you two qualities that I retained from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . No man supervises others and feels pleased about having many opponents near him, except that he enters Paradise.' He said, 'I was with the Prophet ﷺ one day when he entered the mosque and found people sitting inside. He said, 'What made you sit here?' They replied, 'We have prayed the obligatory prayer.' Then they sat discussing the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ .' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, when Allah is mentioned, His remembrance becomes greater.'"
لِغُلَامِهِ ائْتِنِي لُبْسَتَيَّ فَلَبِسَهُمَا ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَسْجِدَ حِمْصَ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ إِذَا هُوَ بِنَاسٍ جُلُوسٌ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ مَا يُجْلِسُكُمْ؟ قَالُوا صَلَّيْنَا صَلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ ثُمَّ قَصَّ الْقَاصُّ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَعَدْنَا نَتَذَاكَرُ سُنَّةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ أَدْرَكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَقَلَّ حَدِيثًا عَنْهُ مِنِّي إِنِّي سَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِخَصْلَتَيْنِ حَفِظْتُهُمَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يَكُونُ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَيَقُومُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ الرِّجَالُ يُحِبُّ أَنْ تَكْثُرَ الْخُصُومُ عِنْدَهُ فَيَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ قَالَ وَكُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمًا فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِقَوْمٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ قُعُودٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَا يُقْعِدُكُمْ؟» قَالُوا صَلَّيْنَا الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ ثُمَّ قَعَدْنَا نَتَذَاكَرُ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ إِذَا ذَكَرَ شَيْئًا تَعَاظَمَ ذِكْرُهُ»
[Machine] "When the companions of the Prophet ﷺ would gather, their discussion would mainly revolve around fiqh (jurisprudence), unless a person would recite a Surah (chapter from the Quran) or instruct someone to recite a Surah."
«أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا جَلَسُوا كَانَ حَدِيثُهُمْ يَعْنِي الْفِقْهَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَقْرَأَ رَجُلٌ سُورَةً أَوْ يَأْمُرَ رَجُلًا بِقِرَاءَةِ سُورَةٍ»

"And it has been narrated in the hadith about studying the hadith from Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Mas'ood with authentic hadiths according to the criteria of the two shaykhs."
«تَذَاكَرُوا الْحَدِيثَ فَإِنَّ مُذَاكَرَةَ الْحَدِيثِ تُهَيِّجُ الْحَدِيثَ» «وَقَدْ رُوِيَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ عَلَى مُذَاكَرَةِ الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ بِأَحَادِيثَ صَحِيحَةٍ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ»
