We set out assuming the Ihram for Hajj in the months of Hajj towards the sacred precincts of Hajj. We dismounted at Sarif and the Prophet ﷺ said to his companions, "Whoever has not got the Hadi with him and likes to make it as ʿUmra, he should do it, but he who has got the Hadi with him should not do it." The Prophet ﷺ and some of his wealthy companions had the Hadi with them, so they did not finish Ihram after performing the ʿUmra. The Prophet ﷺ came to me while I was weeping. He asked me the reason for it. I replied, "I have heard of what you have said to your companions and I cannot do the ʿUmra." He asked me, "What is the matter with you?" I replied, "I am not praying." He said, "There is no harm in it as you are one of the daughters of Adam and the same is written for you as for others. So, you should perform Hajj and I hope that Allah will enable you to perform the ʿUmra as well." So, I carried on till we departed from Mina and halted at Al-Mahassab. The Prophet ﷺ called ʿAbdur- Rahman and said, "Go out of the sanctuary with your sister and let her assume Ihram for ʿUmra, and after both of you have finished the Tawaf I will be waiting for you at this place." We came back at midnight and the Prophet ﷺ asked us, "Have you finished?" I replied in the affirmative. He announced the departure and the people set out for the journey and some of them had performed the Tawaf of the Kaʿba before the morning prayer, and after that the Prophet ﷺ set out for Medina.  

خَرَجْنَا مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ فِي أَشْهُرِ الْحَجِّ وَحُرُمِ الْحَجِّ فَنَزَلْنَا سَرِفَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لأَصْحَابِهِ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْىٌ فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهَا عُمْرَةً فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ هَدْىٌ فَلاَ وَكَانَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَرِجَالٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ ذَوِي قُوَّةٍ الْهَدْىُ فَلَمْ تَكُنْ لَهُمْ عُمْرَةً فَدَخَلَ عَلَىَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي فَقَالَ مَا يُبْكِيكِ قُلْتُ سَمِعْتُكَ تَقُولُ لأَصْحَابِكَ مَا قُلْتَ فَمُنِعْتُ الْعُمْرَةَ قَالَ وَمَا شَأْنُكِ قُلْتُ لاَ أُصَلِّي قَالَ فَلاَ يَضُرَّكِ أَنْتِ مِنْ بَنَاتِ آدَمَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكِ مَا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَكُونِي فِي حَجَّتِكِ عَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَرْزُقَكِهَا قَالَتْ فَكُنْتُ حَتَّى نَفَرْنَا مِنْ مِنًى فَنَزَلْنَا الْمُحَصَّبَ فَدَعَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ فَقَالَ اخْرُجْ بِأُخْتِكَ الْحَرَمَ فَلْتُهِلَّ بِعُمْرَةٍ ثُمَّ افْرُغَا مِنْ طَوَافِكُمَا أَنْتَظِرْكُمَا هَا هُنَا فَأَتَيْنَا فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ فَرَغْتُمَا قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَنَادَى بِالرَّحِيلِ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَارْتَحَلَ النَّاسُ وَمَنْ طَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ قَبْلَ صَلاَةِ الصُّبْحِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ مُوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ  

We went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with no other aim but that of Hajj till we came (to the place known as) Sarif; and there I entered in the state of menses. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me while I was weeping. He said: What makes you weep? I said: Would that I had not come (for Pilgrimage) this year. He (the Holy Prophet) said: What has happened to you? You have perhaps entered the period of menses. I said: Yes. He said: This is what has been ordained for the daughters of Adam. Do what a pilgrim does except that you should not circumambulate the House, till you are purified (of the menses). She ('A'isha) said: When I came to Mecca, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions: Make this (Ihram) the Ihram for 'Umra. So the people put off Ihram except those who had sacrificial animals with them. She ('A'isha) said: The Apostle of Allah ﷺ had the sacrificial animal with him, and so had Abu Bakr, 'Umar and other persons of means. They (those who had put off Ihram again) put on Ihram (for Hajj) when they marched (towards Mina), and it was the 8th of Dhu'l-Hijja. She ('A'isha) said: When it was the day of sacrifice (10th of Dhu'l-Hijja), I was purified, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me and I did the circumambulation of Ifada. She said that the flesh of cow was sent to us. I said: What is it? They said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has offered a cow as sacrifice on behalf of his wives. When it was the night at Hasba, I said: Messenger of Allah, people are coming back from Hajj and Umra, where as I am coming back from Hajj (alone). She (A'isha) reported: He (the Holy Prophet) commanded" Abd al-Rahman b. Abu Bakr to mount me upon his camel behind him. She ('A'isha) said: I was very young and I well remember that I dozed off and my face touched the hind part of the haudaj (camel litter) till we came to Tan'im, and entered into the state of Ihram in lieu of Umra (which I for the time being abandoned) and which the people had performed.  

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ نَذْكُرُ إِلاَّ الْحَجَّ حَتَّى جِئْنَا سَرِفَ فَطَمِثْتُ فَدَخَلَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي فَقَالَ مَا يُبْكِيكِ فَقُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَكُنْ خَرَجْتُ الْعَامَ قَالَ مَا لَكِ لَعَلَّكِ نَفِسْتِ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ هَذَا شَىْءٌ كَتَبَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى بَنَاتِ آدَمَ افْعَلِي مَا يَفْعَلُ الْحَاجُّ غَيْرَ أَنْ لاَ تَطُوفِي بِالْبَيْتِ حَتَّى تَطْهُرِي قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ مَكَّةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَصْحَابِهِ اجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً فَأَحَلَّ النَّاسُ إِلاَّ مَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ الْهَدْىُ قَالَتْ فَكَانَ الْهَدْىُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَذَوِي الْيَسَارَةِ ثُمَّ أَهَلُّوا حِينَ رَاحُوا قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ طَهَرْتُ فَأَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَفَضْتُ قَالَتْ فَأُتِينَا بِلَحْمِ بَقَرٍ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا فَقَالُوا أَهْدَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ نِسَائِهِ الْبَقَرَ فَلَمَّا كَانَتْ لَيْلَةُ الْحَصْبَةِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَرْجِعُ النَّاسُ بِحَجَّةٍ وَعُمْرَةٍ وَأَرْجِعُ بِحَجَّةٍ قَالَتْ فَأَمَرَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَأَرْدَفَنِي عَلَى جَمَلِهِ قَالَتْ فَإِنِّي لأَذْكُرُ وَأَنَا جَارِيَةٌ حَدِيثَةُ السِّنِّ أَنْعُسُ فَتُصِيبُ وَجْهِي مُؤْخِرَةُ الرَّحْلِ حَتَّى جِئْنَا إِلَى التَّنْعِيمِ فَأَهْلَلْتُ مِنْهَا بِعُمْرَةٍ جَزَاءً بِعُمْرَةِ النَّاسِ الَّتِي اعْتَمَرُوا  

We proceeded with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ putting on the Ihram for Hajj during the months of Hajj and the night of Hajj till we encamped at Sarif. He (the Holy Prophet) went to his Companions and said: He who has no sacrificial animal with him, in his case I wish that he should perform Umra (with this Ihram), and he who has the sacrificial animal with him should not do it. So some of them performed Hajj whereas others who had no sacrificial animals with them did not do (Hajj, but performed only 'Umra). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a sacrificial animal with him and those too who could afford it (performed) Hajj). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me (i. e. A'isha) while I was weeping, and he said: What makes you weep? I said: I heard your talk with Companions about Umra. He said: What has happened to you? I said: I do not observe prayer (due to the monthly period), whereupon he said: It would not harm you; you should perform (during this time) the rituals of Hajj (which you can do outside the House). Maybe Allah will compensate you for this. You are one among the daughters of Adam and Allah has ordained for you as He has ordained for them. So I proceeded on (with the rituals of Hajj) till we came to Mina. I washed myself and then circumambulated the House, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ encamped at Muhassab and called, Abd al-Rahman b. Abu Bakr. and said: Take out your sister from the precincts of the Ka'ba in order to put on Ihram for Umra and circumambulate the House. and I shall wait for you here. She said: So I went out and put on Ihram and then circumambulated the House, and (ran) between al-Safa and al-Marwa, and then we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he was in his house in the middle of the night. He said: Have you completed your (rituals)? I said: Yes. He then announced to his Companions to march on. He came out, and went to the House and circumambulated it before the dawn prayer and then proceeded to Medina.  

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ فِي أَشْهُرِ الْحَجِّ وَفِي حُرُمِ الْحَجِّ وَلَيَالِي الْحَجِّ حَتَّى نَزَلْنَا بِسَرِفَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ مِنْكُمْ هَدْىٌ فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهَا عُمْرَةً فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ هَدْىٌ فَلاَ فَمِنْهُمُ الآخِذُ بِهَا وَالتَّارِكُ لَهَا مِمَّنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْىٌ فَأَمَّا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَكَانَ مَعَهُ الْهَدْىُ وَمَعَ رِجَالٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ لَهُمْ قُوَّةٌ فَدَخَلَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي فَقَالَ مَا يُبْكِيكِ قُلْتُ سَمِعْتُ كَلاَمَكَ مَعَ أَصْحَابِكَ فَسَمِعْتُ بِالْعُمْرَةِ فَمُنِعْتُ الْعُمْرَةَ قَالَ وَمَا لَكِ قُلْتُ لاَ أُصَلِّي قَالَ فَلاَ يَضُرُّكِ فَكُونِي فِي حَجِّكِ فَعَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَرْزُقَكِيهَا وَإِنَّمَا أَنْتِ مِنْ بَنَاتِ آدَمَ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ مَا كَتَبَ عَلَيْهِنَّ قَالَتْ فَخَرَجْتُ فِي حَجَّتِي حَتَّى نَزَلْنَا مِنًى فَتَطَهَّرْتُ ثُمَّ طُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمُحَصَّبَ فَدَعَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ اخْرُجْ بِأُخْتِكَ مِنَ الْحَرَمِ فَلْتُهِلَّ بِعُمْرَةٍ ثُمَّ لْتَطُفْ بِالْبَيْتِ فَإِنِّي أَنْتَظِرُكُمَا هَا هُنَا قَالَتْ فَخَرَجْنَا فَأَهْلَلْتُ ثُمَّ طُفْتُ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبِالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَجِئْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ هَلْ فَرَغْتِ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَآذَنَ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ بِالرَّحِيلِ فَخَرَجَ فَمَرَّ بِالْبَيْتِ فَطَافَ بِهِ قَبْلَ صَلاَةِ الصُّبْحِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ  

[Machine] Aisha said: We left with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we only mentioned Hajj. When we arrived at Sarif, I experienced menstruation. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me while I was crying, and he said, "What is making you cry?" I said, "I wish I had not performed 'Umrah this year." He said, "Perhaps you are expecting your period." I said, "Yes." He said, "This is something that Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam, so do what the pilgrims do, except do not perform tawaf around the Ka'bah until you are purified." When we arrived in Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions, "Make it 'Umrah." So people assumed ihram except those who had brought sacrifices, and the sacrificial animals were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Abu Bakr, Umar, and those who had brought their sacrificial animals. Then they proceeded for Hajj after 'Umrah. When it was the Day of Sacrifice, I purified myself and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to perform tawaf. I said, "What is this?" They said, "This is a cow that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sacrificed on behalf of his wives." When it was the night of Hasbah, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, people are returning with the Hajj and 'Umrah, and I am returning with the Hajj only." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr to accompany me on his camel. She said, "I remember, while I was a young girl, that I would fall asleep and my face would hit the back of the saddle until he brought me to Tan'im. Then I performed 'Umrah as compensation for the previous 'Umrah."  

كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ تَقُولُ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَا نَذْكُرُ إِلَّا الْحَجَّ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا سَرِفَ طَمِثْتُ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي فَقَالَ مَا يُبْكِيكِ؟ قُلْتُ وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَخْرُجِ الْعَامَ قَالَ لَعَلَّكِ نَفِسْتِ يَعْنِي حِضْتِ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا شَيْءٌ كَتَبَهُ اللهُ عَلَى بَنَاتِ آدَمَ فَافْعَلِي مَا يَفْعَلُ الْحَاجُّ غَيْرَ أَنْ لَا تَطُوفِي بِالْبَيْتِ حَتَّى تَطْهُرِي فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِأَصْحَابِهِ اجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً فَحَلَّ النَّاسُ إِلَّا مَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ وَكَانَ الْهَدْيُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَذَوِي الْيَسَارَةِ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ رَاحُوا مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ النَّحْرِ طَهُرْتُ فَأَرْسَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ فَأَفَضْتُ يَعْنِي طُفْتُ قَالَتْ فَأُتِينَا بِلَحْمِ بَقَرٍ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا؟ قَالُوا هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَبَحَ عَنْ نِسَائِهِ الْبَقَرَ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا كَانَتْ لَيْلَةُ الْحَصْبَةِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ يَرْجِعُ النَّاسُ بِحَجَّةٍ وَعُمْرَةٍ وَأَرْجِعُ بِحَجَّةٍ فَأَمَرَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَأَرْدَفَنِي عَلَى جَمَلِهِ قَالَتْ فَإِنِّي لَأَذْكُرُ وَأَنَا جَارِيَةٌ حَدِيثَةُ السِّنِّ أَنِّي أَنْعَسُ فَتَضْرِبُ وَجْهِي مُؤَخِّرَةُ الرَّحْلِ حَتَّى جَاءَ بِيَ إِلَى التَّنْعِيمِ فَأَهْلَلْتُ بِعُمْرَةٍ جَزَاءً بِعُمْرَةِ  

' Aisha said, "We set out with Messenger of Allah ﷺs in the months of Hajj, and (in) the nights of Hajj, and at the time and places of Hajj and in a state of Hajj. We dismounted at Sarif (a village six miles from Mecca). The Prophet ﷺ then addressed his companions and said, "Anyone who has not got the Hadi and likes to do Umra instead of Hajj may do so (i.e. Hajj-al-Tamattuʿ) and anyone who has got the Hadi should not finish the Ihram after performing ' ʿUmra). (i.e. Hajj-al-Qiran). Aisha added, "The companions of the Prophet ﷺ obeyed the above (order) and some of them (i.e. who did not have Hadi) finished their Ihram after Umra." Messenger of Allah ﷺ and some of his companions were resourceful and had the Hadi with them, they could not perform Umra (alone) (but had to perform both Hajj and Umra with one Ihram). Aisha added, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and saw me weeping and said, "What makes you weep, O Hantah?" I replied, "I have heard your conversation with your companions and I cannot perform the Umra." He asked, "What is wrong with you?' I replied, ' I do not offer the prayers (i.e. I have my menses).' He said, ' It will not harm you for you are one of the daughters of Adam, and Allah has written for you (this state) as He has written it for them. Keep on with your intentions for Hajj and Allah may reward you that." Aisha further added, "Then we proceeded for Hajj till we reached Mina and I became clean from my menses. Then I went out from Mina and performed Tawaf round the Kaʿba." Aisha added, "I went along with the Prophet ﷺ in his final departure (from Hajj) till he dismounted at Al-Muhassab (a valley outside Mecca), and we too, dismounted with him." He called ' ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr and said to him, ' Take your sister outside the sanctuary of Mecca and let her assume Ihram for ' ʿUmra, and when you had finished ' ʿUmra, return to this place and I will wait for you both till you both return to me.' " ' Aisha added, " So we went out of the sanctuary of Mecca and after finishing from the ' ʿUmra and the Tawaf we returned to the Prophet ﷺ at dawn. He said, 'Have you performed the ' ʿUmra?' We replied in the affirmative. So he announced the departure amongst his companions and the people set out for the journey, and the Prophet: too left for Medina.'' خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي أَشْهُرِ الْحَجِّ وَلَيَالِي الْحَجِّ وَحَرَمِ الْحَجِّ حَتَّى نَزَلْنَا بِسَرِفٍ قَالَتْ فَخَرَجَ ﷺ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ وَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهَا عَمْرَةً فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيُ فَلَا» قَالَتْ فَالْآخِذُ بِهَا وَالتَّارِكُ لَهَا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ قَالَتْ فَأَمَّا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَرِجَالٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَكَانُوا أَهْلَ قُوَّةٍ فَكَانَ مَعَهُمُ الْهَدْيُ فَلَمْ يَقْدِرُوا عَلَى الْعُمْرَةِ قَالَتْ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي فَقَالَ ﷺ «مَا يُبْكِيكِ يَا هَنْتَاهُ؟ » قُلْتُ قَدْ سَمِعْتُ قَوْلُكَ لِأَصْحَابِكَ فَمُنِعْتُ الْعُمْرَةَ قَالَ «وَمَا شَأْنُكِ؟ » قَالَتْ لَا أُصَلِّي قَالَ «فَلَا يَضُرُّكِ إِنَّمَا أَنْتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنَاتِ آدَمِ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ مَا كَتَبَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَكُونِي فِي حَجَّتِكِ فَعَسَى أَنْ تُدْرِكِيهَا» قَالَتْ فَخَرَجْنَا فِي حَجِّهِ حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا مِنًى فَطَهَرْتُ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ مِنْ مِنًى فَأَفَضْتُ الْبَيْتَ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ فِي النَّفْرِ الْآخَرِ حَتَّى نَزَلَ الْمُحَصَّبُ وَنَزَلْنَا مَعَهُ فَدَعَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ ﷺ «اخْرُجْ بِأُخْتِكَ مِنَ الْحَرَمِ فَلْتُهِلَّ بِعُمْرَةٍ ثُمَّ افْرُغَا ثُمَّ ائْتِيَا هُنَا فَإِنِّي أَنْظُرُكُمَا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَانِي» قَالَتْ فَخَرَجْتُ لِذَلِكَ حَتَّى فَرَغْتُ وَفَرَغْتُ مِنَ الطَّوَافِ ثُمَّ جِئْتُهُ سَحْرًا فَقَالَ ﷺ «هَلْ فَرَغْتُمْ؟ » قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَذِنَ بِالرَّحِيلِ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَارْتَحَلَ النَّاسُ فَمَرَّ بِالْبَيْتِ قَبْلَ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ فَطَافَ بِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَرَكِبَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ

(i.e. Hajj-al-Qiran). Aisha added, "The companions of the Prophet ﷺ obeyed the above (order) and some of them (i.e. who did not have Hadi) finished their Ihram after Umra." Messenger of Allah ﷺ and some of his companions were resourceful and had the Hadi with them, they could not perform Umra (alone) (but had to perform both Hajj and Umra with one Ihram). Aisha added, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and saw me weeping and said, "What makes you weep, O Hantah?" I replied, "I have heard your conversation with your companions and I cannot perform the Umra." He asked, "What is wrong with you?' I replied, ' I do not offer the prayers (i.e. I have my menses).' He said, ' It will not harm you for you are one of the daughters of Adam, and Allah has written for you (this state) as He has written it for them. Keep on with your intentions for Hajj and Allah may reward you that." Aisha further added, "Then we proceeded for Hajj till we reached Mina and I became clean from my menses. Then I went out from Mina and performed Tawaf round the Kaʿba." Aisha added, "I went along with the Prophet ﷺ in his final departure (from Hajj) till he dismounted at Al-Muhassab (a valley outside Mecca), and we too, dismounted with him." He called ' ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr and said to him, ' Take your sister outside the sanctuary of Mecca and let her assume Ihram for ' ʿUmra, and when you had finished ' ʿUmra, return to this place and I will wait for you both till you both return to me.' " ' Aisha added, " So we went out of the sanctuary of Mecca and after finishing from the ' ʿUmra and the Tawaf we returned to the Prophet ﷺ at dawn. He said, 'Have you performed the ' ʿUmra?' We replied in the affirmative. So he announced the departure amongst his companions and the people set out for the journey, and the Prophet: too left for Medina.'' خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي أَشْهُرِ الْحَجِّ وَلَيَالِي الْحَجِّ وَحَرَمِ الْحَجِّ حَتَّى نَزَلْنَا بِسَرِفَ قَالَتْ فَخَرَجَ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ وَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهَا عَمْرَةً فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيُ فَلَا» قَالَتْ فَالْآخِذُ بِهَا وَالتَّارِكُ لَهَا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ قَالَتْ فَأَمَّا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَرِجَالٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَكَانُوا أَهَلَ قُوَّةٍ وَكَانَ مَعَهُمُ الْهَدْيُ فَلَمْ يَقْدِرُوا عَلَى الْعُمْرَةِ قَالَتْ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أَبْكِي فَقَالَ «مَا يُبْكِيكِ يَا هَنْتَاهُ؟ ‍» قُلْتُ قَدْ سَمِعْتُ قَوْلَكَ لِأَصْحَابِكَ فَمُنِعْتُ الْعُمْرَةَ قَالَ «وَمَا شَأْنُكِ؟ » قُلْتُ لَا أُصَلِّي قَالَ «فَلَا يَضُرُّكِ إِنَّمَا أَنْتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنَاتِ آدَمَ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ مَا كَتَبَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فَكُونِي فِي حَجَّتِكِ فَعَسَى أَنْ تُدْرِكِيهَا» قَالَتْ فَخَرَجْنَا فِي حَجَّتِهِ حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا مِنًى فَطَهَرْتُ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ مِنْ مِنًى فَأَفَضْتُ الْبَيْتَ قَالَتْ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ فِي النَّفْرِ الْآخَرِ حَتَّى نَزَلَ الْمُحَصَّبُ وَنَزَلْنَا مَعَهُ فَدَعَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ «اخْرُجْ بِأُخْتِكَ مِنَ الْحَرَمِ فَلْتُهِلَّ بِعُمْرَةٍ ثُمَّ افْرُغَا ثُمَّ ائْتِيَا هَاهُنَا فَإِنِّي أَنْظُرُكُمَا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَانِي» قَالَتْ فَخَرَجْتُ لِذَلِكَ حَتَّى فَرَغْتُ وَفَرَغْتُ مِنَ الطَّوَافِ ثُمَّ جِئْتُهُ سَحْرًا فَقَالَ «هَلْ فَرَغْتُمْ؟ » قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَآذَنَ بِالرَّحِيلِ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَارْتَحَلَ النَّاسُ فَمَرَّ بِالْبَيْتِ قَبْلَ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ فَطَافَ بِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَرَكِبَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ مُتَوَجِّهًا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ»  

We set out assuming the Ihram for Hajj in the months of Hajj towards the sacred precincts of Hajj. We dismounted at Sarif and the Prophet ﷺ said to his companions, "Whoever has not got the Hadi with him and likes to make it as ʿUmra, he should do it, but he who has got the Hadi with him should not do it." The Prophet ﷺ and some of his wealthy companions had the Hadi with them, so they did not finish Ihram after performing the ʿUmra. The Prophet ﷺ came to me while I was weeping. He asked me the reason for it. I replied, "I have heard of what you have said to your companions and I cannot do the ʿUmra." He asked me, "What is the matter with you?" I replied, "I am not praying." He said, "There is no harm in it as you are one of the daughters of Adam and the same is written for you as for others. So, you should perform Hajj and I hope that Allah will enable you to perform the ʿUmra as well." So, I carried on till we departed from Mina and halted at Al-Mahassab. The Prophet ﷺ called ʿAbdur- Rahman and said, "Go out of the sanctuary with your sister and let her assume Ihram for ʿUmra, and after both of you have finished the Tawaf I will be waiting for you at this place." We came back at midnight and the Prophet ﷺ asked us, "Have you finished?" I replied in the affirmative. He announced the departure and the people set out for the journey and some of them had performed the Tawaf of the Kaʿba before the morning prayer, and after that the Prophet ﷺ set out for Medina. ' Aisha said, "We set out with Messenger of Allah ﷺs in the months of Hajj, and (in) the nights of Hajj, and at the time and places of Hajj and in a state of Hajj.
