The apostate scribe whom the earth would not accept
[AI] A man recited from al-Baqarah and Al Imran, and he used to write in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He would dictate to him something of the names of Allah ﷻ, saying: "All-Hearing, All-Knowing," while the other would say: "Forgiving, Merciful." Then he would say: "Write whichever of that you wish." He then turned back from Islam and joined the polytheists, saying, "Are you teaching me about Muhammad? I used to write whatever I wished." Then he died, and the Prophet ﷺ said: "The earth will not accept him."
He said: It was mentioned that Abu Talhah came to the land in which the man had died and found him cast out. He said, "What is the matter with this man?" They said, "We buried him repeatedly, but the earth would not accept him." This hadith has been narrated by Thabit from Anas, so I think Humayd heard it from Thabit, and Thabit was not corroborated in it.
