Some people of Bani Tamim came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said (to them), "O Bani Tamim! rejoice with glad tidings." They said, "You have given us glad tidings, now give us something." On hearing that the color of his face changed then the people of Yemen came to him and he said, "O people of Yemen ! Accept the good tidings, as Bani Tamim has refused them." The Yemenites said, "We accept them. Then the Prophet ﷺ started taking about the beginning of creation and about Allah's Throne. In the mean time a man came saying, "O ʿImran! Your she-camel has run away!'' (I got up and went away), but l wish I had not left that place (for I missed what Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said).

جَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ أَبْشِرُوا قَالُوا بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُهُ فَجَاءَهُ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ يَا أَهْلَ الْيَمَنِ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا قَبِلْنَا فَأَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُحَدِّثُ بَدْءَ الْخَلْقِ وَالْعَرْشِ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا عِمْرَانُ رَاحِلَتُكَ تَفَلَّتَتْ لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أَقُمْ

A delegation from Banu Tamim came to the Prophet ﷺ . The Prophet ﷺ said, "Accept the good tidings, O Banu Tamim!" They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! You have given us good tidings, so give us (something)." Signs of displeasure appeared on his face. Then another delegation from Yemen came and he said (to them), "Accept the good tidings, for Banu Tamim refuses to accept them." They replied, "We have accepted them, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!"

أَتَى نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا فَرِيءَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَجَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا قَدْ قَبِلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ

The people of Banu Tamim came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Be glad (i.e. have good tidings). O Banu Tamim!" They said, "As you have given us good tidings then give us (some material things)." On that the features of Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed (i.e. he took it ill). Then some people from Yemen came, and the Prophet ﷺ said (to them) "Accept good tidings as Banu Tamim have not accepted them." They said, "We accept them, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!"

جَاءَتْ بَنُو تَمِيمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا أَمَّا إِذْ بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا قَدْ قَبِلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ

that a group from Banu Tamim came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so he said: "Have glad tidings O Banu Tamim." They said: "You have given us glad tidings, so then give something to us." He said: "So the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed. Then a group from the people of Yemen came so he said: 'Accept the glad tidings, for Banu Tamim did not accept them.' They said: 'We accept.'"

جَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا قَالَ فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَجَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ أقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا قَدْ قَبِلْنَا

[AI] "Abdulrahman narrated that a group from the Banu Tamim came, and Waki' said that the children of Tamim came to the Prophet ﷺ. He said, 'Rejoice, O children of Tamim.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, did you give us glad tidings? So grant us something.' Abdulrahman said, 'So the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed.' Then a man from Yemen came and said, 'Accept the glad tidings.' When the children of Tamim did not accept it, they said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we have accepted.'"

عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ جَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ جَاءَتْ بَنُو تَمِيمٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَجَاءَ حَيٌّ مِنْ يَمَنٍ فَقَالَ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَبِلْنَا

that a group from Banu Tamim came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so he said: "Have glad tidings O Banu Tamim." They said: "You have given us glad tidings, so then give something to us." He said: "So the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed. Then a group from the people of Yemen came so he said: 'Accept the glad tidings, for Banu Tamim did not accept them.' جَاءَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَاسٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا قَالَ فَكَانَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ كَادَ أَنْ يَتَغَيَّرَ قَالَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ قَالُوا قَدْ قَبِلْنَا

[AI] A group from the Bani Tamim tribe came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and said, "Give us good news!" He replied, "I have received news from Yemen." So the Prophet ﷺ said to them, "Accept the good news, since the Bani Tamim tribe did not accept it."

جَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرُوا قَالُوا بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا قَالَ فَقَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ حَيٌّ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اقْبَلُوا الْبُشْرَى إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا بَنُو تَمِيمٍ

[AI] The delegation of Bani Tamim came to the Prophet ﷺ, so he said to them, "Rejoice, O Bani Tamim!" They said, "You have given us glad tidings, so please give us something." The face of the Prophet ﷺ changed. Then, the delegation of the people of Yemen came, so he said to them, "Rejoice, O people of Yemen, as the descendants of Bani Tamim did not accept the glad tidings."

جَاءَ وَفْدُ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ «أَبْشِرُوا يَا بَنِي تَمِيمٍ» قَالُوا بَشَّرْتَنَا فَأَعْطِنَا فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَجَاءَ وَفْدُ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ «أَبْشِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْيَمَنِ إِذْ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ الْبُشْرَى بَنُو تَمِيمٍ»
