مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللَّهِ وَهَذَا الْكَلَامُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى إِلَّا عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ لَهُ طَرِيقًا غَيْرَ هَذَا الطَّرِيقِ
from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "The wise person is the one who subdues his ˹lower desires˺ and strives toward what is after death. And the weak-˹minded˺ person (a fool) is the one who follows his desires yet holds hope in ˹a reward˺ Allah."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «الْكَيِّسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللَّهِ۔»
“The wise man is the one who takes account of himself and strives for that which is after death. And the helpless man is the one who follows his own whims then indulges in wishful thinking about Allah.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4260)
