His father said: "One of the governors sent me to Ibn Abbas to ask him about the prayer for rain. He said: 'What kept him from asking me? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out humbly, (dressed) in a state of humility, submissiveness and beseeching, and he prayed two rak'ahs as in the Eid prayer, but he did not deliver a Khutbah like this Khutbah of yours.'"  

أَنْ يَسْأَلَنِي خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُتَوَاضِعًا مُتَبَذِّلاً مُتَخَشِّعًا مُتَضَرِّعًا فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ كَمَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خُطْبَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ  

“One of the chiefs* sent me to Ibn ‘Abbas to ask him about the prayer for rain. Ibn ‘Abbas said: ‘What kept him from asking me?’ He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out humbly, walking with a humble and moderate gait, imploring, and he performed two Rak’ah as he used to pray for ‘Eid, but he did not give a sermon like this sermon of yours.’”  

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُتَوَاضِعًا مُتَبَذِّلاً مُتَخَشِّعًا مُتَرَسِّلاً مُتَضَرِّعًا فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ كَمَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدِ وَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خُطْبَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ  

“One of the chiefs* sent me to Ibn ‘Abbas to ask him about the prayer for rain. “One of the chiefs* sent me to Ibn ‘Abbas to ask him about the prayer for rain. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ مُتَخَشِّعًا مُتَضَرِّعًا مُتَوَاضِعًا مُتَبَذِّلًا مُتَرَسِّلًا فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ كَمَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدِ لَمْ يَخْطُبْ كَخُطْبَتِكُمْ هَذِهِ  

His father said: "One of the governors sent me to Ibn Abbas to ask him about the prayer for rain. He said: 'What kept him from asking me? “One of the chiefs* sent me to Ibn ‘Abbas to ask him about the prayer for rain. Ibn ‘Abbas said: ‘What kept him from asking me?’ He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out humbly, walking with a humble and moderate gait, imploring, and he performed two Rak’ah as he used to pray for ‘Eid, but he did not give a sermon like this sermon of yours.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1266)   

«خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُتَبَذِّلًا مُتَمَسْكِنًا مُتَضَرِّعًا مُتَوَاضِعًا وَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خُطْبَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ كَمَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدِ»  

[Machine] That he would come to me and ask me? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out humbly, supplicating and humbling himself, and did not deliver your sermon. He prayed two rak'ahs as he prays on the day of Eid.  

أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي فَيَسْأَلَنِي؟ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مُتَوَاضِعًا مُتَضَرِّعًا مُبْتَذِلًا فَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خُطْبَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ كَمَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدِ

أَنْ يَسْأَلَنِي خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مُتَوَاضِعًا مُتَبَذِّلًا مُتَخَشِّعًا مُتَضَرِّعًا فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ كَمَا يُصَلِّي فِي الْعِيدِ وَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خُطْبَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ»  

"عَنْ كِنَانَةَ قَالَ: أَرْسَلَنى أَميرٌ مِنَ الأُمَرَاءِ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الاسْتسْقَاءِ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: خَرَجَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ مُتَوَاضعًا، مُتَبَذِّلًا، مُتَخَشِّعًا، مُتَضَرِّعًا، مُتَوَسِّلا، فَصَلَى رَكْعتَيْنِ كمَا يُصَلِّى فِى الْعيدِ، وَلَمْ يَخْطُبْ خطْبَتَكُمْ هذِهِ".
