Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered for a horse race; the trained horses were to run from a place called Al-Hafya' to Thaniyat Al-Wadaʿ and the horses which were not trained were to run from Al-Thaniya to the Masjid (mosque of) Bani Zuraiq. The sub narrator added: Ibn ʿUmar was one of those who took part in the race.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي أُضْمِرَتْ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ وَأَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةُ الْوَدَاعِ وَسَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضْمَرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَأَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ فِيمَنْ سَابَقَ بِهَا

The Prophet ﷺ arranged for a horse race of the horses which had not been made lean; the area of the race was from Ath-Thaniya to the mosque of Bani Zuraiq. (The sub-narrator said, "ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar was amongst those who participated in that horse race.").

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَأَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ سَابَقَ بِهَا قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ أَمَدًا غَايَةً فَطَالَ عَلَيْهِمْ الْأَمَدُ

"Messenger of Allah ﷺ arranged a horse race amongst the horses that had been made lean, letting them start from Al-Hafya' and their limit (distance of running) was up to Thaniyat-al-Wadaʿ. I asked Musa, 'What was the distance between the two places?' Musa replied, 'Six or seven miles. He arranged a race of the horses which had not been made lean sending them from Thaniyat-al-Wadaʿ, and their limit was up to the mosque of Bani Zuraiq.' I asked, 'What was the distance between those two places?' He replied 'One mile or so.' Ibn ʿUmar was amongst those who participated in that horse race."

سَابَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي قَدْ أُضْمِرَتْ فَأَرْسَلَهَا مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَقُلْتُ لِمُوسَى فَكَمْ كَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ سِتَّةُ أَمْيَالٍ أَوْ سَبْعَةٌ وَسَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ فَأَرْسَلَهَا مِنْ ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا مَسْجِدَ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ قُلْتُ فَكَمْ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ مِيلٌ أَوْ نَحْوُهُ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ مِمَّنْ سَابَقَ فِيهَا

ʿAbdullah said, "The Prophet ﷺ arranged for a horse race, and the prepared horses were given less food for a few days before the race to win the race, and were allowed to run from Al-Hafya to Thaniyat-al- Wadaʿ, and the unprepared horses were allowed to run between Thaniyat-al-Wadaʿ and the mosque of Bani Zuraiq," ʿAbdullah was one of those who participated in the race.

سَابَقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ فَأُرْسِلَتِ الَّتِي ضُمِّرَتْ مِنْهَا وَأَمَدُهَا إِلَى الْحَفْيَاءِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ أَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةُ الْوَدَاعِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَأَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ كَانَ فِيمَنْ سَابَقَ حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a race of the horses which had been especially prepared for the purpose from Hafya' to Thaniyyat al-Wada' (the latter being the winning post), and of those which had not been trained from Thaniyya to the mosque of Banu Zuraiq, and Ibn Umar was among those who took part in this race.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَابَقَ بِالْخَيْلِ الَّتِي قَدْ أُضْمِرَتْ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ وَسَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضْمَرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فِيمَنْ سَابَقَ بِهَا

‘Abd Allah bin Umar said “The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ held race between the horses which had been made lean by training from Al Hafya’. The goal was Thaniyyat Al Wada’ and he held a race between the horses Banu Zuraiq and ‘Abd Allaah was one of the racers.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي قَدْ ضُمِّرَتْ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ وَسَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضْمَرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَإِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ كَانَ مِمَّنْ سَابَقَ بِهَا

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arranged for the Mudammar among horses to race from Al-Hafiya' to Thaniyyah Al-Wada', between which was a distance of six miles. And for whatever horse was not among the Mudammar, they raced from Thaniya Al-Wada' to the Masjid of Banu Zuraiq, between which was a distance of a mile. I was among those who raced, and my horse jumped along with me over a wall."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَجْرَى الْمُضَمَّرَ مِنَ الْخَيْلِ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَبَيْنَهُمَا سِتَّةُ أَمْيَالٍ وَمَا لَمْ يُضَمَّرْ مِنَ الْخَيْلِ مِنْ ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَبَيْنَهُمَا مِيلٌ وَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ أَجْرَى فَوَثَبَ بِي فَرَسِي جِدَارًا

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah organized a horse race and sent them from Al-Hafya' and its finish line was Thaniyyat Al-Wada'; and he organized a race for horses that had not been made lean, and the course stretched from Ath-Thaniyyah to the Masjid of Banu Zuraiq.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah organized a race for horses that had been made lean, from Al-Hafya' and its finish line was Thaniyyat Al-Wada', and he organized another race for horses that had not been made lean, from Ath-Thaniyyah to the Masjid of Banu Zuraiq, and 'Abdullah was among those who took part in the race.

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a horse lean, and he would send the horse that he had made lean from Hafya’ to Thaniyyatul-Wada’, and (he would send) the horse that he had not made lean from Thaniyyatul-Wada’ to the mosque of Banu Zuraiq.”

ضَمَّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْخَيْلَ فَكَانَ يُرْسِلُ الَّتِي ضُمِّرَتْ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ مِنْ ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسَابِقُ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الْمُضَمَّرَةِ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ إِلَى الثَّنِيَّةِ وَالَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَأَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ فِيمَنْ سَابَقَ بِهَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode ahead among the horses, sending what was hidden from them from Hafya or Hairya to Thaniyyat al-Wada' and sending what was not hidden from it from Thaniyyat al-Wada' to the mosque of Bani Zuraik. Abdullah said: "I was riding a horse that day, and I outpaced the people. The horse took me to the mosque of Bani Zuraik."

سَبَّقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ فَأَرْسَلَ مَا ضُمِّرَ مِنْهَا مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ أَوِ الحَيْفَاءِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَأَرْسَلَ مَا لَمْ يُضَمَّرْ مِنْهَا مِنْ ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَكُنْتُ فَارِسًا يَوْمَئِذٍ فَسَبَقْتُ النَّاسَ طَفَّفَ بِيَ الْفَرَسُمَسْجِدَ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allahصلى الله عليه وسلم rode ahead of the horses and sent whatever was concealed from them from the saddles and sent what was not concealed from them from the outskirts of Wadaa' to the mosque of Bani Zuraiq.

سَبَّقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْخَيْلَ فَأَرْسَلَ مَا ضُمِّرَ مِنْهَا مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ وَأَرْسَلَ مَا لَمْ يُضَمَّرْ مِنْهَا مِنْ ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ held a race between horses which had been made lean by training, from al-Hafya to Thaniyatu-lWada. He held a race between horses which had not been made lean from the Thaniya (a mountain pass near Madina) to the mosque of the Banu Zurayq. Abdullah ibn Umar was among those who raced them .

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي قَدْ أُضْمِرَتْ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ وَسَابَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَأَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ مِمَّنْ سَابَقَ بِهَا

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ rode the horse that was prepared for him from Al-Hafya to Thaniyat Al-Wada', and he rode the horse that was not prepared for him from Thaniyat to Masjid Bani Zuraiq. And Ibn Umar was among those who rode ahead of him, narrating a hadith from Yahya.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَابَقَ بِالْخَيْلِ الَّتِي قَدْ أُضْمِرَتْ مِنَ الْحَفْيَا إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَسَابَقَ بِالْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فِيمَنْ سَابَقَ بِهَا لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ rode the hidden horses from Al-Hafya to Thaniyah Al-Wada' and then he rode the unharnessed horses from Thaniyah to the Mosque of Bani Zuraiq.

أَجْرَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا ضُمِّرَ مِنَ الْخَيْلِ مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَأَجْرَى مَا لَمْ يُضَمَّرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ

[AI] Allah's messenger, ﷺ , rode ahead between the horses, and he made the endpoint of the hidden valleys from Al-Hafya to Thaniyyat al-Wada'. And what was not hidden in Thaniyyat to the Mosque of Bani Zuraiq. Ibn Umar said, "I came ahead, and the horse carried me lightly around the mosque." The words are attributed to the Hadith of Ibn Harb.

اللهِ ﷺ سَبَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ فَجَعَلَ غَايَةَ الْمُضَمَّرَاتِ مِنَ الْحَفْيَا إِلَى ثَنِيَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَمَا لَمْ يُضَمَّرْ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ؓ جِئْتُ سَابِقًا فَطَفَّفَ بِيَ الْفَرَسُ الْمَسْجِدَ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ حَرْبٍ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ was riding a horse that had been prepared for him. He sent it from Al-Hafiya and its journey took two or three days. I asked Musa, "How far is it?" He said, "Six or seven miles." And there were horses that were not prepared, but he sent them from Masjid Bani Zuraiq and their journey took a mile or so. Ibn Umar said that he was among those who preceded the horses.

رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي أُضْمِرَتْ فَأَرْسَلَهَا مِنَ الْحَفْيَاءِ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَقُلْتُ لِمُوسَى وَكَمْ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ سِتَّةُ أَمْيَالٍ أَوْ سَبْعَةٌ وَسَبَقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُضَمَّرْ فَأَرْسَلَهَا مِنْ ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ وَكَانَ أَمَدُهَا مَسْجِدَ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ قُلْتُ وَكَمْ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ مِيلٌ أَوْ نَحْوُهُ؟ قَالَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ؓ مِمَّنْ سَابَقَ فِيهَا
