We came to the Prophet ﷺ, and a man came and said: Prophet of Allah, what do you say if one prays in a single garment? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then took off his wrapper and combined it with his sheet, and put it on them. He got up and the Prophet of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer. When he finished the prayer, he said: Does every one of you have two garments?

قَدِمْنَا عَلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ مَا تَرَى فِي الصَّلاَةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ قَالَ فَأَطْلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِزَارَهُ طَارَقَ بِهِ رِدَاءَهُ فَاشْتَمَلَ بِهِمَا ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا أَنْ قَضَى الصَّلاَةَ قَالَ أَوَكُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ

[AI] His father witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and a man asked him about praying in a single garment, but he did not say anything to him. When the prayer was established, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spread his cloak between the two garments and prayed in them.

أَنَّ أَبَاهُ شَهِدَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَهُ شَيْئًا فَلَمَّا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ طَارَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ ثَوْبَيْهِ فَصَلَّى فِيهِمَا

[AI] A man asked the Prophet ﷺ about praying in one garment while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was wearing two garments. So, he (the man) split them apart and wrapped himself with one of them, then he prayed in it. Then, when he finished the prayer and said the greetings, he said, "Can any one of you find two garments?"

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ وَعَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثَوْبَانِ فَطَارَقَ بَيْنَهُمَا فَتَوَشَّحَ بِهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى فِيهِ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ أَكُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ؟

[AI] "O Prophet of Allah, what do you think about praying with a single garment?" The Prophet of Allah ﷺ then took off his Izar (lower garment) and put it on his shoulders, and he spread his Ridha (upper garment) over himself and prayed with us. After he completed his prayer, he asked, "Do any of you have two garments?"

يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ مَا تَرَى فِي الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ؟ «فَأَطْلَقَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ إِزَارَهُ فَطَارَقَ رِدَاءَهُ فَاشْتَمَلَ بِهِمَا وَصَلَّى بِنَا» فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ «أَكُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ؟»

[AI] He (referring to the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ ) witnessed the Messenger of Allah (saw) and a man asked him about a person who prays in a single garment, but he did not say anything. When it was time for prayer, the Messenger of Allah (saw) placed his two garments together and prayed in them.

أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُصَلِّي فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا فَلَمَّا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ «طَابَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ ثَوْبَيْهِ فَصَلَّى فِيهِمَا»

[AI] We went out to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ with a delegation until we reached him. We pledged allegiance to him and prayed with him. Then a man came and said, "O Prophet of Allah, what do you think about praying in a single garment?" So the Prophet of Allah ﷺ took off his izar and used it as a cloak, covering himself with it. He stood up and prayed with us. After he finished the prayer, he said, "Does anyone of you have two garments?" And the narrations that we have heard about the prayer of the Prophet ﷺ in a single garment refer to a cloak or something similar to a cloak. Allah knows best.

خَرَجْنَا إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ وَفْدًا حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا عَلَيْهِ فَبَايَعْنَاهُ وَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ مَا تَرَى فِي الصَّلَاةِ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ؟ فَأَطْلَقَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ إِزَارَهُ وَطَارَقَ بِهِ رِدَاءَهُ وَاشْتَمَلَ بِهَا وَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ أَوَكُلُّكُمْ يَجِدُ ثَوْبَيْنِ؟ وَالْأَحَادِيثُ الَّتِي رُوِّينَاهَا فِي صَلَاةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ مُتَوَشِّحًا بِهِ الْمُرَادُ بِهِ الرِّدَاءُ أَوْ مَا يُشْبِهُ الرِّدَاءَ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ

"جَاءَ رَجُل فَقَالَ: يَا نَبىَّ الله مَا تَرَى فِى الصَّلاَةِ في ثَوْب وَاحِدٍ؟ فَانْطلَقَ (*) النَّبِىُّ ﷺ إِزَارَهُ فَطَارَقَ بِهِ رِدَاءَهُ ثُمَّ اشْتَمَلَ بِهِمَا، ثُمَّ صَلّى بِنَا، فَلَما قَضَى الصَّلاَةَ، قَالَ: أكلُّكم يَجِدُ ثَوبَيْن؟ ".
