The Jews used to sneeze in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ hoping that he would say: 'Yarhamukumullah (May Allah have mercy upon you).' So he said: 'Yahdikumullahu Wa Yuslihu Balakum (May Allah guide you and rectify your affairs).'"  

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.

كَانَ الْيَهُودُ يَتَعَاطَسُونَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَرْجُونَ أَنْ يَقُولَ لَهُمْ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللَّهُ فَيَقُولُ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ وَأَبِي أَيُّوبَ وَسَالِمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ مُتَّصِلُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَهَذَا الْخَبَرُ لَيْسَ بِخِلَافِ الْأَخْبَارِ الْمَأْثُورَةِ الصَّحِيحَةِ الْمُتَّفَقِ عَلَيْهَا فِي الْجَامِعَيْنِ الصَّحِيحَيْنِ لِلْإِمَامَيْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَمُسْلِمِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ لِأَنَّ مِنَ السُّنَنِ الصَّحِيحَةِ أَنْ يَقُولَ الْمُسْلِمُ لِأَخِيهِ الْعَاطِسِ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ فَيُجِيبُهُ بِأَنْ يَقُولَ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ يَدُلُّ مَا أَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يُقَالَ لِلْمُسْلِمِ إِذَا عَطَسَ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللَّهُ فَالْمُحْتَجِّ بِذَلِكَ لَيْسَ بِمُتَمَيِّزٍ بَيْنَ الْعَاطِسِ وَالْمُشَمِّتِ وَقَدْ دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِنَفْسِهِ وَلِلْمُسْلِمِينَ بِالْهِدَايَةِ فِي أَخْبَارٍ كَثِيرَةٍ يَطُولُ شَرْحُهَا فِي هَذَا الْمَوْضِعِ وَقَدْ أَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ خَلِيلَهُ وَصَفِيَّهُ وَخَتَنَهُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ اللَّهَ الْهِدَايَةَ سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص
adab:1114 –

Abu Musa said, "The Jews used to sneeze in the presence in the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, hoping that he would say to them, 'May Allah have mercy on you,' but he used to say, 'May Allah guide you and out your affairs in order.'"

"عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْن جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا عَطَسَ حَمِدَ اللهَ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُ: يَرْحَمُكَ الله، فَيَقُولُ: يَهدِيكُمُ الله وَيُصْلحُ بَالَكُمْ".
