“Zaid bin Thabit departed from Marwan at mid-day. I said: ‘He has not sent him out at this time of the day except for something he asked.’ So I asked him, and he said: ‘He asked me about some things we heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Whoever is focused only on this world, Allah will confound his affairs and make him fear poverty constantly, and he will not get anything of this world except that which has been decreed for him. Whoever is focused on the Hereafter, Allah will settle his affairs for him and make him feel content with his lot, and his provision and worldly gains will undoubtedly come to him.”

عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ سَمِعْنَاهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا هَمَّهُ فَرَّقَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلاَّ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ وَمَنْ كَانَتِ الآخِرَةُ نِيَّتَهُ جَمَعَ اللَّهُ لَهُ أَمْرَهُ وَجَعَلَ غِنَاهُ فِي قَلْبِهِ وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ رَاغِمَةٌ

“Zaid bin Thabit departed from Marwan at mid-day. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ كَانَتْ نِيَّتُهُ الْآخِرَةَ جَمَعَ اللهُ لَهُ شَمْلَهُ وَجَعَلَ غِنَاهُ فِي قَلْبِهِ وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا رَاغِمَةً وَمَنْ كَانَتْ نِيَّتُهُ الدُّنْيَا فَرَّقَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ اللهُ لَهُ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever makes the Hereafter his intention, Allah will gather his affairs for him, place richness in his heart, and the world will come to him, humbled. And whoever makes the world his intention, Allah will disperse his affairs, place poverty before his eyes, and he will get nothing of the world except what has been decreed for him."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ كَانَتْ نِيَّتُهُ الْآخِرَةَ جَمَعَ اللهُ لَهُ شَمْلَهُ وَجَعَلَ غِنَاهُ فِي قَلْبِهِ وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا رَاغِمَةً وَمَنْ كَانَتْ نِيَّتُهُ الدُّنْيَا فَرَّقَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ اللهُ لَهُ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon to us in the Mosque of Khaif. He praised Allah and mentioned Him as He deserves. Then he said, "Whoever makes the Hereafter his main concern, Allah will bring together his affairs, and will make him content with his wealth in this life. As for someone whose main concern is this world, Allah will scatter his affairs, and will make poverty appear before his eyes. And he will not get from this world, except what was already written for him."

خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَذَكَرَهُ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «مَنْ كَانَتِ الْآخِرَةُ هَمَّهُ جَمَعَ اللهُ لَهُ شَمْلَهُ وَجَعَلَ غِنَاهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ رَاغِمَةٌ وَمَنْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا هَمَّهُ فَرَّقَ اللهُ شَمْلَهُ وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَلَمْ يُؤْتِهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَا كُتِبَ»

"مَنْ تَكُن الدُّنْيَا نِيَّتَهُ، جَعَلَ اللهُ فَقْرَهُ بَينَ عَينَيهِ، وَشَتَّتَ اللهُ ضَيْعَتَهُ، وَلَا يَأتِهِ منْهَا إلا مَا كُتِب لَهُ، وَمَنْ تَكُن الآخِرَةُ نِيَّتَهُ يَجْعَل اللهُ غِنَاهُ في قَلبه، ويَكُفَّ عليه ضَيعَتَةُ، وَتَأْتَهِ الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ رَاغِمَةٌ".

"مَنْ كَانَتِ الآخرَةُ هَمَّهُ جَعَلَ الله غِنَاهُ في قَلْبِه، وَجَمَعَ لَه شَمْلَه وأَتَتْه الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ رَاغِمَةٌ، وَمَن كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا هَمَّهُ جَعَلَ الله فَقْرَهُ بَينَ عَينَيه وَفَرَّقَ عَلَيهِ شَمْله، وَلَمْ يَأتِهِ مِن الدُّنْيَا إِلا مَا قُدِّرَ لَهُ".

"مَنْ كَانَتْ نيَّتُهُ الآخِرَةَ جَمعَ الله لَهُ شَمْلَهُ، وَجَعَلَ غِنَاهُ في قَلْبِهِ وَأَتتْهُ الدُّنْيَا رَاغِمَةً، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ نِيَّتُهُ الدُّنْيَا مَزَّقَ الله عَلَيهِ أَمْرَهُ وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَينَ عَينَيهِ وَلَمْ يَأتِهِ مِن الدُّنْيَا إِلا مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ".

[Machine] "Whoever's intention is to seek the worldly life, Allah will scatter his affairs, and place poverty between his eyes, and nothing of the world will come to him except what has been written for him. And whoever's intention is to seek the Hereafter, Allah will gather his affairs, place wealth in his heart, and the worldly life will come to him willingly."

"مَنْ كَانَتْ نِيَّتُهُ طَلَبَ الدُّنْيَا شَتَّتَ الله علَيه أَمْرَهُ، وَجَعَلَ الْفَقْر بَينَ عَينَيهِ، وَلَمْ يَأتِه مِن الدُّنْيَا إِلا مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ نِيَّتُهُ طَلَبَ الآخِرَةِ جَمَعَ الله شَمْلَهُ وَجَعَل غِنَاهُ في قَلْبِهِ، وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ رَاغِمَةٌ".

"عَنِ ابْن عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: خَطَبَنا رَسُولُ الله ﷺ في مَسْجِد الْخيفِ فَحَمدَ الله وَذَكَرَهُ بِمَا هُوَ أهْلُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَنْ كَانَتِ الآخِرَةُ هَمَّهُ جَمَعَ الله شَمْلَهُ، وَجَعَلَ غِنَاهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْه، وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا وَهِىَ رَاغِمَةٌ، وَمَنْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا هَمَّهُ فَرق الله شَمْلَهُ، وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَأت منَ الدُّنْيَا إِلاَّ مَا كَتَبَ لَهُ".

Rid yourselves of the worries of this world as much as you can; for whoever makes this world his greatest concern, Allah will spread out his loss and place his poverty before his eyes. And whoever makes the Hereafter his greatest concern, Allah, Most High, will set his affairs in order and place his richness in his heart. And no servant turns with his heart toward Allah except that Allah makes the hearts of the believers come to him with affection and mercy, and Allah is swifter to him with every good.

"تَفَرَّغُوا مِنْ هُمُومِ الدُّنْيَا مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ؛ فَإِنَّهُ مَن كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا أَكْبَرَ هَمِّهِ أَفْشَا اللَّه ضَيْعَتَهُ، وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ۔ وَمَنْ كَانَتِ الآخِرةُ أَكْبَرَ هِمِّهِ جَمَعَ اللَّه -تعالى- لَهُ أَمْرَهُ، وَجَعَلَ غِنَاهُ فِي قَلْبِهِ، وَمَا أَقْبَلَ عَبْدٌ بِقلْبِهِ إِلَى اللَّه إِلا جَعَلَ اللَّه قُلُوبَ الْمُؤمِنِين تَفِدُ إِلَيْهِ بِالْوُدِّ وَالرَّحْمَةِ، وَكَانَ اللَّه بِكُلِّ خَيْرٍ إِلَيْهِ أَسْرَعَ".
