هِنْدُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ الْخَثْعَمِيَّةُ أُمُّ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited al-Abbas while he was sick, and al-Abbas wished for death. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O uncle, do not wish for death, for if you are righteous, then delaying it will increase your righteousness, and if you are sinful, then delaying it will give you the chance to repent from your sins. So do not wish for death."  

الطبراني:٢١٦٠٥ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْعَلَّافُ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ وَابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ أَنَّ ابْنَ الْهَادِ حَدَّثَهُمَا عَنْ هِنْدَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ امْرَأَةِ الْعَبَّاسِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَى الْعَبَّاسِ وَهُوَ شَاكٌّ فَتَمَنَّى الْعَبَّاسُ الْمَوْتَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا عَمُّ لَا تَتَمَنَّ الْمَوْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُحْسِنًا فَأِنْ تُؤَخِّرُ تَزْدَادُ حُسْنًا إِلَى إِحْسَانِكَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ مُسِيئًا فَإِنْ تُؤَخِّرُ تَسْتَعْتِبُ مِنْ إِسَاءَتِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ فَلَا تَتَمَنَّ الْمَوْتَ»

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon Al-Abbas while he was complaining and wishing for death. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Abbas, O my dear uncle of Allah's Messenger! Do not wish for death. If you are righteous, your righteousness will increase your goodness. And if you commit sins, then if you are delayed, seeking forgiveness is better for you. So do not wish for death." Yunus (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "And if you commit sins, then if you are delayed, seeking forgiveness is better for you than seeking forgiveness for your wrongdoing."  

أحمد:٢٦٨٧٤ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا لَيْثٌ وَيُونُسُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ هِنْدَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَى الْعَبَّاسِ وَهُوَ يَشْتَكِي فَتَمَنَّى الْمَوْتَ فَقَالَ يَا عَبَّاسُ يَا عَمَّ رَسُولِ اللهِ لَا تَتَمَنَّ الْمَوْتَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُحْسِنًا تَزْدَادُ إِحْسَانًا إِلَى إِحْسَانِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ مُسِيئًا فَإِنْ تُؤَخَّرْ تَسْتَعْتِبْ خَيْرٌ لَكَ فَلَا تَتَمَنَّ الْمَوْتَ قَالَ يُونُسُ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ مُسِيئًا فَإِنْ تُؤَخَّرْ تَسْتَعْتِبْ مِنْ إِسَاءَتِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon them and 'Abbas, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , was complaining, so 'Abbas wished for death. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "O uncle, do not wish for death, for if you are good, then if it is delayed, you will increase in goodness towards your goodness. And if you are evil, then if it is delayed, you will be blamed for your wrongdoing, and it is better for you to not wish for death."  

الحاكم:١٢٥٤ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ثنا أَبِي وَشُعَيْبُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ قَالَا أَنْبَأَ اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ هِنْدِ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ إِنَّمَا اتَّفَقَا عَلَى حَدِيثِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ لَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَتَمَنَّى الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُهُ

"يَا عَمَّ رسُولِ الله: لاَ تَتَمَنَّ الموْتَ، فَإِنْ تَكُ مُحْسِنًا فَإِنْ تُؤَخَّرْ تَزدَدْ إحْسَانًا إِلَى إِحْسَانِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ، وإنْ تَكُ مُسِيئًا فَإِنْ تُؤَخَّرْ فَتَسْتَعْتِب مِنْ إِسَاءَتِكَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ، فَلاَ تَتَمَنَّ المَوْتَ".  

[حم] أحمد وابن سعد، [طب] الطبرانى في الكبير [ك] الحاكم في المستدرك عن هند بنت الحارث، عن أم الفضل أن رسول الله ﷺ دخل عليهم وعباس يَشْتكى، فتمنى عباس الموت، فقال له رسول الله ﷺ فذكره

"عَنْ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى رَجُلٍ يَعُودُهُ وَهُوَ شاكٍ فَتَمَنَى الْمَوْتَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا تَتَمَنَّ الْمَوْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إنْ كُنْتَ مُحْسِنًا تَزْدَدْ إِحْسَانًا إِلَى إِحْسَانِكَ، وَإِنْ تَكُ مُسِيئًا فَتُؤَخَّرْ تَسْتَعْتِبْ [فَلَا تَتَمنَّوا] الْمَوْتَ".
