The Prophet ﷺ never missed four rakʿat before the Zuhr prayer and two rakʿat before the Fajr prayer.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ لاَ يَدَعُ أَرْبَعًا قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْغَدَاةِ

Hafsa reported that when it was dawn, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not observe (any other prayers) but two short rak'ahs.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ لاَ يُصَلِّي إِلاَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

When the dawn appeared, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed two rak'ahs (of Sunnah prayers).

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَضَاءَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

Did he recite in them Surah Fatiha (only)?

أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ فَيُخَفِّفُ حَتَّى إِنِّي أَقُولُ هَلْ قَرَأَ فِيهِمَا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ

from the Prophet ﷺ: “The two ˹Sunnah˺ rakʿahs of Fajr are better than the world and everything in it.”

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «رَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا»

The Prophet ﷺ never omitted four rak'ahs before the noon prayer, and two rak'ahs before the dawn prayer.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ لاَ يَدَعُ أَرْبَعًا قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ صَلاَةِ الْغَدَاةِ

The Prophet ﷺ would pray two rak'ahs before the dawn prayer lightly so much so that I would say: Did he recite Surah al-Fatihah in them.

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُخَفِّفُ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ حَتَّى إِنِّي لأَقُولُ هَلْ قَرَأَ فِيهِمَا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ

"When the dawn appears, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would only pray two short Rak'ahs."

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ لاَ يُصَلِّي إِلاَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

"I would see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying two rak'ahs of Fajr and making them so brief that I said: 'Did he recite the Umm Al-Kitab in them?'"

إِنْ كُنْتُ لأَرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ فَيُخَفِّفُهُمَا حَتَّى أَقُولَ أَقَرَأَ فِيهِمَا بِأُمِّ الْكِتَابِ

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The two rak'ahs (before) Fajr are better than this world and everything in it."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ رَكْعَتَا الْفَجْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا

"Hafsah told me that when dawn glowed, the Prophet ﷺ would pray two rak'ahs.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَضَاءَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

The Prophet ﷺ used to pray the two rak'ahs of Fajr, two brief rak'ahs.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

Told him that when the Muaddhin fell silent, Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray two brief rak'ahs.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا سَكَتَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

"My sister Hafsah told me that he used to pray two brief rak'ahs before Fajr."

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two rak'ahs when dawn had broken.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ

"When dawn came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not pray anything but two brief rak'ahs."

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ لاَ يُصَلِّي إِلاَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

"Hafsah told me that when dawn glowed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray two rak'ahs."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَضَاءَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two brief rak'ahs between the Adhan and Iqamah for Fajr prayer.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ بَيْنَ النِّدَاءِ وَالإِقَامَةِ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that when the dawn illuminated, the Prophet ﷺ would pray two Rak’ah.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَضَاءَ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

“When the Messenger of Allah (saw prayed the two (Sunnah) Rak’ah of Fajr, he would lie down.”

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ اضْطَجَعَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to not leave four (supererogatory units) before noon and two units before dawn.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا يَدَعُ أَرْبَعًا قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ»

"Hafsah told me that when dawn glowed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray two rak'ahs." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1779)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَضَاءَ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said, "There is no prayer after the dawn prayer except for two units."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ إِلَّا رَكْعَتَيْنِ

'A'isha reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up at night to pray, he began his prayer with two short rak'ahs. (Using translation from Muslim 767)

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يُصَلِّي افْتَتَحَ صَلَاتَهُ بِرَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to lie on his right side when performing the two units of the Fajr prayer.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ

[AI] Aisha said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that he would never miss four units of prayer before noon and two units of prayer before dawn, no matter what the circumstances."

قَالَسَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَدَعُ أَرْبَعًا قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ عَلَى كَلِّ حَالٍ

[AI] She said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two units of prayer when the dawn broke or he would only pray two units of prayer. I say that he used to recite the opening chapter of the book (Al-Fatiha) in them.

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَوْ لَمْ يُصَلِّ إِلَّا رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَقُولُ يَقْرَأُ فِيهِمَا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ

[AI] The translation of the passage is: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sometimes lie down after praying two rak'ahs before Fajr."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ رُبَّمَا اضْطَجَعَ

[AI] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to perform four (optional) units of prayer before noon and two (optional) units of prayer before dawn.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَدَعُ أَرْبَعًا قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the two units of prayer before the dawn (Fajr) prayer, and he would shorten them until I would wonder if he had recited the Umm Al-Quran.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ فَيُخَفِّفُهُمَا حَتَّى أَقُولَ هَلْ قَرَأَ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ

[AI] "She said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two units of prayer when dawn broke, or he did not pray except two units of prayer. Shall I recite the opening chapter of the book in them?"

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَوْ لَمْ يُصَلِّ إِلَّا رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَقُولُ يَقْرَأُ فِيهِمَا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ؟

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two rak'ahs before dawn prayer and he would shorten them to the point that I would doubt whether he recited Al-Fatiha in them or not.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْغَدَاةِ فَيُخَفِّفُهُمَا حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأَشُكُّ أَقَرَأَ فِيهِمَا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ أَمْ لَا؟

[AI] She heard Aisha say, "If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform the two Rak'ahs before dawn, he would shorten them. I would even ask, 'Did he recite in them the Mother of the Quran?'"

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ فَيُخَفِّفُهُمَا حَتَّى إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَقُولُ هَلْ قَرَأَ فِيهِمَا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ

The Prophet ﷺ used to lie down on his right side, after offering two rakʿat (Sunna) of the Fajr prayer. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1160)

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ

Told him that when the Muaddhin fell silent, Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray two brief rak'ahs. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1772)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «الرَّكْعَتَانِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا»

The Prophet ﷺ would pray two rak'ahs before the dawn prayer lightly so much so that I would say: Did he recite Surah al-Fatihah in them. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1255)

«كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ فَيُخَفِّفُهُمَا حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأَقُولُ هَلْ قَرَأَ فِيهِمَا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ؟ »

Salim narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe two rak'ahs after Jumu'a. (Using translation from Muslim 882c)

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَيُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ»

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to lie down on his right side after performing the two units of the Fajr prayer.

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ»

[AI] The translation is as follows: "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ used to perform two units of prayer when the dawn appeared."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «كَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray two light-raka'at when he saw the dawn.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ «إِذَا رَأَى الْفَجْرَ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ»

Hafsa reported that when it was dawn, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not observe (any other prayers) but two short rak'ahs. (Using translation from Muslim 723c)
