[Machine] The Banu Amr kidnapped two men who were companions of the Prophet Muhammad. The companions of the Prophet then captured a man from Thaqif and took his camel, which he used to lead the pilgrimage. The Prophet passed by him while he was restrained and he called out to him, saying, "O Muhammad, O Muhammad!" The Prophet showed him compassion and asked him why he was restrained and his camel was taken before him. He replied, "Because of the debts of your allies, the Banu Amr." The Banu Amr were allies of the Thaqif tribe. The Prophet then granted him permission to leave, but the man called out to him again. He returned to him and said, "Feed me, for I am hungry." The Prophet replied, "This is all I can do for you." He ordered food to be brought for him. The Prophet then redeemed the two men who were imprisoned by the group of people and some polytheists became jealous of the city's side. They attacked the camel and also harmed a woman. They took her with them to their caravan. The woman escaped from them during the night, while they were camping near their tents. Whenever she approached a camel to ride it, it would resist and she would leave it until she reached the camel of the Messenger of Allah, which was gentle and she did not resist. She sat on it and called out to them. The people came after her to retrieve her and saw her in its traces. Indeed, Allah saved her from being sacrificed and she was saved. When she entered the city, the Prophet was informed that his camel had returned with a woman named so-and-so, whom Allah had saved from the polytheists. The Prophet brought the woman and the camel and asked her, "What did you do?" She informed him and said that she had made a vow while they were pursuing her, that if Allah saved her, she would sacrifice the same camel. The Prophet said, "What a terrible thing you have done! There is no fulfillment of a vow in disobedience or in that which the son of Adam does not possess."

'Adba belonged to a man of Banu 'Aqil. It used to go ahead of pligrims. The man was then captivated. He was brought in chains to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ was riding on a donkey with a blanket on him. He said: Muhammad, why do you arrest me and capture the one (i.e. the she-camel) which goes ahead of the pilgrims. He replied: We are arresting you on account of the crime committed by your allies Thaqid. Thaqif captivated two persons from among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. He said (whatever he said) I am a Muslim, or he said: I have embraced Islam. When the Prophet ﷺ went ahead, he called him: O Muhammed, O Muhammed. Abu Dawud said: I learnt it from the version of the narrator Muhammad b. 'Isa. The Prophet ﷺ was compassionate and kind hearted. So he returned to him, and asked: What is the matter with you ? He replied: I am a Muslim. He said: Had you said it when the matter was in your hand, you would have succeeded completely. Abu Dawud said: I then returned to the version of the narrator Sulaiman (b. Harb). He said: Muhammad, I am hungry, so feed me. I am thirsty, so give me water. The Prophet ﷺ said: This is your need, or he said: This is his need (the narrator is doubtful). Later on the man was taken back (by Thaqif) as a ransom for the two men (of the Companions of the Prophet). The Prophet ﷺ retained 'Adba for his journey. The narrator said: The polytheists raided the pasturing animals of Medina and they took away 'Adba. When they took away 'Adba, they also captivated a Muslim woman. They used to leave their camels in the fields for rest at night. One night they slept and the (Muslim) woman stood up. Any camel on which she put her hand brayed until she came to 'Adba. She came to a she-camel which was docile and experienced. She then rode on her and vowed to Allah that if He saved her, she would sacrifice it. When she came to Medina, the people recognized the she-camel of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ was then informed about it and he sent for her. She was brought to him and she informed him about her vow. He said: It is a bad return that you have given it. Allah has not saved you, on its (back) that you now sacrifice it. A vow to do an act of disobedience must not be fulfilled, or to do something over which one has no control. Abu Dawud said: This woman was the wife of Abu Dharr. [Machine] "The 'Adba' belonged to a man from the Banu 'Uqayl tribe. They were captured and their 'Adba' were seized. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by them while he was tied up and said, 'O Muhammad, why do you take me while you spare the leader of the caravan, and I have embraced Islam?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If you were to say this while having control over your affairs, you would have succeeded in all ways.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'We will take you in exchange for the prisoners of war from your tribe.' The prisoners were two men from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came riding on a donkey, which had a saddle made of Qatif cloth. He said, 'O Muhammad, I am hungry, so feed me, and I am thirsty, so give me something to drink.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'This is your request.' Then, the man was redeemed with two prisoners. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ detained the 'Adba' for his journey. The Quraysh polytheists were jealous about the plunder of the city, so they took the 'Adba' with them. They captured a Muslim woman and whenever they camped, Abu Muhammad would mention something about their camels in their captives' presence. One night, the woman got up while they were asleep and every time she put her hand on a camel, it would groan. She reached the 'Adba' and rode on the riding camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , which was gentle and had a bell, and upon it, she set off towards Madinah. She vowed that if Allah rescued her, she would sacrifice the camel. When she arrived in Madinah, the camel was recognized as the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ camel. So, they brought it to the Prophet ﷺ and informed the woman of her vow. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It is a bad reward that you have rewarded her with. Verily, Allah has rescued her, so she should sacrifice the camel. There is no fulfillment of a vow in disobedience to Allah or what the son of Adam does not possess.'"

[Machine] Thaqeef was an ally of the Banu 'Uqayl, and they captured two men from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ captured a man, and they all had the smallpox. The narration mentioned it as follows: "And a woman from the Ansar was also captured, and she also had the smallpox. So, the woman was in captivity, and the people would relieve themselves of their blessings among their households. One night she escaped from her captors and came across some camels. She would untie them when they approached the basil, and she did not untie them. He said: "And there was a branded camel, and it sat in its place, then it was stirred, and it left. They made a vow about it, so they went to look for it, but it eluded them." He said: "And she vowed that if Allah saved her, she would sacrifice it." So, when she arrived in the city, the people saw her and said: "This is the camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So, they said: "Indeed, she vowed that if Allah saved her from them, she would sacrifice it for Him." They went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and he said: "Glory be to Allah! How wretched is what she has done! If Allah saved her from them, it was upon her to fulfill her vow, there is no fulfillment for a vow in disobedience to Allah, and in something that the servant does not possess."
