Story of how Abu Bakr became known as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, "If he said that, then I believe him."

[Machine] When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was taken on the Night Journey to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, people began talking about it. Some people turned away from believing it, but those who believed and confirmed it went to Abu Bakr and asked him, "Does your friend claim that he was taken on this journey to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa last night?" Abu Bakr asked, "Did he say that?" They replied, "Yes." Abu Bakr said, "If he said that, then he has spoken the truth." They asked him, "Do you believe him when he says that he went to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa last night and returned before morning?" Abu Bakr replied, "Yes, I believe him even in something far greater than that. I believe him when he receives revelation from the heavens, either during the morning or while at rest." That is why Abu Bakr was given the title "As-Siddiq" (the Truthful).

لَمَّا أُسْرِيَ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى أَصْبَحَ يَتَحَدَّثُ النَّاسُ بِذَلِكَ فَارْتَدَّ نَاسٌ فَمَنْ كَانَ آمَنُوا بِهِ وَصَدَّقُوهُ وَسَمِعُوا بِذَلِكَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا هَلْ لَكَ إِلَى صَاحِبِكَ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ قَالَ أَوَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ لَئِنْ كَانَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ لَقَدْ صَدَقَ قَالُوا أَوَ تُصَدِّقُهُ أَنَّهُ ذَهَبَ اللَّيْلَةَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ وَجَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِنِّي لَأَصُدِّقُهُ فِيمَا هُوَ أَبْعَدُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أُصَدِّقُهُ بِخَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ فِي غَدْوَةٍ أَوْ رَوْحَةٍ فَلِذَلِكَ سُمَيَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ

[Machine] When the Prophet ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey to Al-Aqsa Mosque, people started talking about it. Some people who used to believe in him and trust him turned away, while men from the polytheists went to Abu Bakr and asked him, "Does your companion claim that he was taken on a journey to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa last night?" Abu Bakr asked them, "Did he say that?" They replied, "Yes." Abu Bakr then said, "If he indeed said that, then he has spoken the truth." They asked him, "Do you believe him when he claims that he went to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa and came back before morning?" Abu Bakr answered, "Yes, I believe him in something even more miraculous than that. I believe him in the news of the heavens in the early morning or evening. That is why he is called Abu Bakr As-Siddiq."

لَمَّا أُسْرِيَ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى أَصْبَحَ يَتَحَدَّثُ النَّاسُ بِذَلِكَ فَارْتَدَّ نَاسٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ آمَنُوا بِهِ وَصَدَّقُوهُ وَسَعَى رِجَالٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا هَلْ لَكَ إِلَى صَاحِبِكِ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ؟ قَالَ أَوَقَالَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ لَئِنْ قَالَ ذَلِكَ لَقَدْ صَدَقَ قَالُوا أَوَ تُصَدِّقُهُ أَنَّهُ ذَهَبَ اللَّيْلَةَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ وَجَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ؟ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ إِنِّي لَأَصُدِّقُهُ فِي مَا هُوَ أَبْعَدُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أُصَدِّقُهُ فِي خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ فِي غُدْوَةٍ أَوْ رَوْحَةٍ فَلِذَلِكَ سُمِّيَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ

"قُلتُ لِجبْرِيلَ لَيلَةَ أُسْرِى بِى: إِنَّ قَوْمِى لَا يُصَدِّقُونِى فَقَال. يُصَدِّقُكَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ الصِّدِّيقُ" .

[Machine] "When the Prophet ﷺ ascended, he began informing the people about it. Some people who used to believe in him and trust him went astray and doubted. Abu Bakr said, 'I believe him even in matters further than that, and I believe him regarding news from the heavens in the morning or evening.' That is why he was called Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq."

"لما أسرى بالنبي ﷺ أصبح يحدث بذلك الناس، فارتد ناس ممن كان آمن به وصدق (به) وفتنوا فقال أبو بكر: إنِي (لأصدقه) فيما هو أبعد من ذلك، (أصدقه) بخبر السماء في غدوة أو روحة، فلذلك سمي: أَبَا بكر الصديق".

"قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمَّا أُسْرِى بِهِ: إنِّى أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَخْرجَ إِلى قُريشٍ فَأُخْبرهُم فَكَذَّبُوه، وَصَدَّقهُ أَبو بَكْرٍ، فَسمى يَوْمَئِذٍ الصِّديق".
