The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the (Hell) Fire and sought refuge (with Allah) from it, and turned his face to the other side. He mentioned the (Hell) Fire again and took refuge (with Allah) from it and turned his face to the other side. (Shuʿba, the sub-narrator, said, "I have no doubt that the Prophet ﷺ repeated it twice.") The Prophet ﷺ then said, "(O people!) Save yourselves from the (Hell) Fire even if with one half of a date fruit (given in charity), and if this is not available, then (save yourselves) by saying a good pleasant friendly word."

ذَكَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ النَّارَ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ النَّارَ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ أَمَّا مَرَّتَيْنِ فَلاَ أَشُكُّ ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Protect yourself from the Fire." He then turned his face aside (as if he were looking at it) and said again, "Protect yourself from the Fire," and then turned his face aside (as if he were looking at it), and he said so for the third time till we thought he was looking at it. He then said, "Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if with one half of a date and he who hasn't got even this, (should do so) by (saying) a good, pleasant word.'

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ ثَلاَثًا حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the Fire and turned his face aside and asked for Allah's protection from it, and then again he mentioned the Fire and turned his face aside and asked for Allah's protection from it and said, "Protect yourselves from the Hell-Fire, even if with one half of a date, and he who cannot afford that, then (let him do so) by (saying) a good, pleasant word."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ ذَكَرَ النَّارَ فَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ النَّارَ فَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

Protect yourselves against Fire even if with half a date. But if you fail to find it (then protect yourselves against Fire) with the help of a pleasant word).

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ النَّارَ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ ثَلاَثَ مِرَارٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

"Protect yourselves from the Fire, even with half a date."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ

"The Messenger of Allah mentioned the Fire, and he turned his face away (as if seeing it), and sought refuge with Allah from it." (One of the narrators) Shu'bah said: "He did that three times, then he said: 'Protect yourselves from the Fire even with half a date, and if you cannot find that, then with a good word."'

ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ النَّارَ فَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ وَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا ذَكَرَ شُعْبَةُ أَنَّهُ فَعَلَهُ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ التَّمْرَةِ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Fear the fire, even if it is by giving away a part of a date, and if you can't find that, then by saying a good word."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ»

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "Whoever among you can protect themselves from the Fire, even if it is with half a date, then let them do so. And whoever cannot find that, then let them do so with a kind word."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَّقِيَ النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever among you is able to protect themselves from the Fire, even if it is by giving half of a date in charity, should do so."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَّقِيَ النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ

"The Messenger of Allah mentioned the Fire, and he turned his face away (as if seeing it), and sought refuge with Allah from it." [AI] The Prophet of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Beware of the fire (of Hell) even if it is only by donating half a date. If you cannot find anything, then with a good word." Ibn Ja'far also said: "With a word."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fear the fire." He frowned his face until we thought that he was looking at it. Then he said, "Fear the fire," and frowned his face. He repeated this two or three times, saying, "Fear the fire, even if with a piece of date, and if you cannot find that, then with a good word."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ قَالَ فَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ قَالَ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Fear the fire, even if it is with half a date."

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Beware of the Fire!" He turned his face in such a way that we thought he was looking at it. Then he said, "Beware of the Fire!" and turned his face again. He repeated this two or three times, saying, "Beware of the Fire, even if it is with half a date (in charity). And if you cannot find it, then with a kind word."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of the Hellfire, even if it is with half a date."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّتَمْرَةٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of the fire, even if it is with half a date, and if you cannot find that, then with a good word."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ stood up and said, "Beware of the Fire." Then he turned around and repeated, "Beware of the Fire." He kept turning and repeating it until we could see that he was actually seeing it. Then he said, "Beware of the Fire, even if it is by giving half a date as charity. If you cannot find that, then by speaking a kind word."

قَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فقَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ» ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ» ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ حَتَّى رُئِينَا أَنَّهُ يَرَاهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيْبَةٍ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ stood up and said, "Fear the Fire." Then he turned away and repeated, "Fear the Fire." He continued to turn away and repeat it until we saw that he was seeing it. Then he said, "Fear the Fire even if it is with half a date." And if you do not find that, then with a kind word.

قَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ» ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ» ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا أَنَّهُ يَرَاهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيْبَةٍ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever is able to protect themselves from the fire of Hell, even if it is by giving half a date in charity, should do so."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَتَّقِيَ النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O people, fear the Fire even if with half a date."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of the Fire, then turn away and divert, until we think that he is looking at it." Then he said, "Beware of the Fire, even if it is with a piece of date, or with a good word."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ ثُمَّ أعْرَضَ وأشَاحَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَو بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ وَلَوْ بِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ»

[AI] "Fear the Fire, even if it is with half a date, and if you cannot find that, then with a good word."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the fire, so he sought refuge from it and turned his face away. Then he mentioned it again and sought refuge from it and turned his face away. Shu'bah said: "Regarding the two times, there is no doubt. Then he said: 'Beware of the fire, even with half a date. And if you cannot find that, then with a good word.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ذَكَرَ النَّارَ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ وَذَكَرَ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ أَمَّا مَرَّتَيْنِ فَلَا شَكَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ

"اتقوا النار ولو بشق تمرةٍ، فإن لم تجدوا فبكلمةٍ طيَّبَةٍ".
