Allah ordered His Prophet to forgive the people their misbehavior (towards him). (Using translation from Bukhārī 4644)  

الطبراني:١٣٩١١ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبَّادٍ الْمَكِّيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ {خُذِ الْعَفْوَ} قَالَ

«أَمَرَ اللهُ نَبِيَّهُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ الْعَفْوَ مِنْ أَخْلَاقِ النَّاسِ»

The Prophet of Allah ﷺ was commanded to hold to forgiveness from the conduct of the people.  

أبو داود:٤٧٨٧ – حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطُّفَاوِيُّ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ فِي

قَوْلِهِ { خُذِ الْعَفْوَ } قَالَ أُمِرَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ الْعَفْوَ مِنْ أَخْلاَقِ النَّاسِ

فِي قَوْلِهِ ﷻ {خُذِ الْعَفْوَ} [الأعراف 199] قَالَ «أَمَرَ اللَّهُ نَبِيَّهُ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ الْعَفْوَ فِي أَخْلَاقِ النَّاسِ»  

«هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الْبُخَارِيِّ وَقَدِ احْتَجَّ بِالطُّفَاوِيِّ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ وَقَدْ قِيلَ فِيهِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ» على شرط البخاري
