Ibn 'Abbas reported that a man said, "Messenger of Allah, my mother died without a will. Will it help her if I give sadaqa on her behalf?" "Yes," he replied.

أَنَّ رَجُلاً قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي تُوُفِّيَتْ وَلَمْ تُوصِ أَفَيَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

A man said to the Prophet ﷺ, "My mother died suddenly and I thought that if she had lived she would have given alms. So, if I give alms now on her behalf, will she get the reward?" The Prophet ﷺ replied in the affirmative.

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ فَهَلْ لَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ

A man said to the Prophet, "My mother died suddenly, and I think that if she could speak, she would have given in charity. May I give in charity on her behalf?" He said, "Yes! Give in charity on her behalf."

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسَهَا وَأُرَاهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ تَصَدَّقْ عَنْهَا

My mother died suddenly without having made any will. I think she would have definitely given Sadaqa if she had been able to speak. Would she have a reward if I gave Sadaqa on her behalf? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes.

أَنَّ رَجُلاً أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّيَ افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسَهَا وَلَمْ تُوصِ وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَلَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ

My mother died all of a sudden, and I think if she (could have the opportunity) to speak she would have (made a will) regarding Sadaqa'. Will I be entitled to reward if I give charity on her behalf? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes.

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّيَ افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَإِنِّي أَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ فَلِيَ أَجْرٌ أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ

Messenger of Allah, my mother died all of a sudden without making any will. I think if (she could have the opportunity) to speak she would have made a Sadaqa. Would there be any reward for her if I give charity on her behalf? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes.

أَنَّ رَجُلاً أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّيَ افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَلَمْ تُوصِ وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَلَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ

A woman said: Messenger of Allah, my mother suddenly died; if it had not happened, she would have given sadaqah (charity) and donated (something). Will it suffice if I give sadaqah on her behalf? The Prophet ﷺ said: Yes, give sadaqah on her behalf.

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّيَ افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَلَوْلاَ ذَلِكَ لَتَصَدَّقَتْ وَأَعْطَتْ أَفَيُجْزِئُ أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَتَصَدَّقِي عَنْهَا

"My mother died unexpectedly; if she had been able to speak she would have given charity. Should I give charity on her behalf?" The Messenger of Allah said: "Yes." So he gave charity on her behalf.

لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَإِنَّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا

“My mother died unexpectedly and she had not made a will. I think that if she could have spoken, she would have given in charity. Will she have a reward if I give in charity on her behalf, and will I have a reward?” He said: “Yes.”

أَنَّ رَجُلاً أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَلَمْ تُوصِ وَإِنِّي أَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ لَتَصَدَّقَتْ فَلَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا وَلِيَ أَجْرٌ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ

A man said to the Prophet ﷺ, "My mother died suddenly and I thought that if she had lived she would have given alms. So, if I give alms now on her behalf, will she get the reward?" The Prophet ﷺ replied in the affirmative. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1388)

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ فَهَلْ لَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ أَتَصَدَّقْ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

Malik related to me from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father from A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ that a man said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ "My mother died suddenly, and I think that had she spoken, she would have given sadaqa. Shall I give sadaqa for her?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes."

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ رَجُلاً قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَأُرَاهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ

"My mother died unexpectedly; if she had been able to speak she would have given charity. Should I give charity on her behalf?" The Messenger of Allah said: "Yes." So he gave charity on her behalf. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3649)

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَأُرَاهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ»

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died; shall I give in charity on her behalf?' He said: 'Yes.' I said: 'What kind of charity is best?' He said: 'Providing drinking water.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3664)

أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» قَالَ فَأَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ «سَقْيُ الْمَاءِ»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has passed away and did not leave any instructions. Would it benefit her if I give charity on her behalf?" He said, "Yes."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تُوُفِّيَتْ أُمِّي وَلَمْ تُوصِ أَفَيَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ»

[AI] A man asked the Prophet ﷺ if it would benefit his mother if he gives charity on her behalf. The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes." The man then said, "I have a garden, and I testify to you that I have given charity from it on her behalf." The Prophet ﷺ said, "The scent of the garden is the palm tree."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ تُوُفِّيَتْ فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» فَقَالَ إِنَّ لِي مَخْرَفَةً فَأُشْهِدُكَ أَنِّي قَدْ تَصَدَّقْتُ بِهَا عَنْهَا قَالَ رَوْحٌ الْمخرفةُ النَّخْلُ

A man said to the Prophet, "My mother died suddenly, and I think that if she could speak, she would have given in charity. May I give in charity on her behalf?" He said, "Yes! Give in charity on her behalf." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2760)

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَإِنَّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ» فَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا

[AI] "To the Prophet ﷺ , indeed my mother passed away while in debt, and I think if she were to speak she would be believed. Does she have reward if I give charity on her behalf?" He ﷺ said, "Yes."

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ فَهَلْ لَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

[AI] Narrated Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ : A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother vowed to fast but she passed away before fulfilling it. I believe that if she spoke, she would give charity. Does she get rewarded if I give charity on her behalf?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Yes, except that Malik said in the hadith, 'And I see if she spoke, she would give charity. Should I give charity on her behalf?' He replied, 'Yes.'"

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمِّيَ افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ فَهَلْ لَهَا أَجْرٌ فِي أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِلَّا أَنَّ مَالِكًا قَالَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ وَأُرَاهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

[AI] "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Indeed, my mother passed away while she was in a state of disbelief, and I think that if she were to speak, she would have embraced Islam. Will she be rewarded if I give charity on her behalf?' He ﷺ answered, 'Yes,' according to the narration of Abu Abdullah alone."

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَأَظُنُّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ فَهَلْ لَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ وَحْدَهُ

"عَنْ عَائِشَةَ: أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أُمِّي

افتلتت نَفْسَهَا وَلَمْ تُوصِ، وَأَظُنُّ أَنَّهَا لَوْ قَدْ تَكَلَّمَتْ [تَصَدَّقَتْ] فَلَهَا أَجْرٌ فِي أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ".

"عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ: أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! إِنَّ أُمِّى تُوُفِّيَتْ وَلَمْ تَتَصَدَّقْ بِشَىْءٍ، أَفَلَهَا أَجْرٌ إِنْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَإِنَّهَا تَرَكَتْ مَخْرفًا (*) فَأَنَا أُشْهِدُكَ أَنِّى قَدْ تَصَدَّقْتُ عَنْهَا".

"عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِم، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: جَاءَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أُمِّى مَاتَتْ وَلَم تُوصِ، فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا، قَالَ: نَعَم".
