Looking at a prospective bride
[AI] I proposed marriage to a young woman from the Ansar, and I mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ. He said to me: "Have you seen her?" I said, "No." He said: "Then look at her, for that is more likely to bring harmony between you both."
So I went to them and mentioned that to her parents. One of them looked at the other, so I got up and left. Then the young woman said, "Bring the man back to me." So I returned and stood at the side of her private chamber. She said, "If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has commanded you to look at me, then look; otherwise, I solemnly forbid you to look." So I looked at her and married her, and I never married any woman who was more beloved to me than her, nor one whom I honored more than her (*), and I had married seventy women.
