"We used to fast on 'Ashura and give Zakatul-Fitr, and when the command to fast in Ramadan was revealed, and the command to give Zakah was revealed, we were neither commanded to give it, nor told not to do so, and we used to do it."

كُنَّا نَصُومُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَنُؤَدِّي زَكَاةَ الْفِطْرِ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ وَنَزَلَتِ الزَّكَاةُ لَمْ نُؤْمَرْ بِهِ وَلَمْ نُنْهَ عَنْهُ وَكُنَّا نَفْعَلُهُ

Qais bin Sa'ad said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ enjoined Sadaqatul-Fitr upon is before (the command of) Zakat was revealed. He neither ordered us (to pay) nor forbade us (from paying it), so we did it.”

أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِصَدَقَةِ الْفِطْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُنْزَلَ الزَّكَاةُ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتِ الزَّكَاةُ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا وَنَحْنُ نَفْعَلُهُ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ commanded us to fast on Ashura before the fasting of Ramadan was prescribed. But when the fasting of Ramadan was prescribed, he did not command or forbid us from doing so, and we continued to fast on Ashura.

أَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ نَصُومَ عَاشُورَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ صِيَامُ رَمَضَانَ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ صِيَامُ رَمَضَانَ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا وَنَحْنُ نَفْعَلُهُ

«مَا أُمِرْنَا بِصَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ إِلَّا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ رَمَضَانُ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ نُؤْمَرْ بِهِ وَلَمْ نُنْهَ عَنْهُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to do it before the Zakat was revealed. Then he neither commanded nor forbade us, so we continue to do it.

أَمَرَنَا بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْزِلَ الزَّكَاةُ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا فَنَحْنُ نَفْعَلُهُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to fast on the day of Ashura before the month of Ramadan began. However, when the month of Ramadan came, he did not command us or forbid us from fasting on that day, and we continued to observe it. He also instructed us to give Zakat al-Fitr, and when it became obligatory, he did not command us or forbid us from giving it, and we continued to give it.

(Sahih) Abu 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasai) said: Abu 'Ammar's name is 'Arib bin Humaid, and 'Amr bin Shurabbil's Kunyah is Abu Maisarah, and Salamah bin Kuhail contradicted Al-Hakam in his chain, and Al-Hakam is more reliable than Salamah bin Kuhail. [AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to fast on Ashura before Ramadan arrived, but when Ramadan arrived, he did not order us or forbid us.

«أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِصِيَامِ عَاشُورَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ رَمَضَانُ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا»

"عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرِ أُمِرْنَا بِصِيَامِ عَاشُورَاء قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ رَمَضَانُ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ نُؤْمَرْ بِهِ".

"عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ: أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِصَوْمِ عَاشُوَرَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ رَمَضَانُ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ يَأمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنا، وَنَحْنُ نَفْعَلُهُ".
