"We were with the Prophet at a funeral, and he said: 'I there anyone from banu so and so here? He said this three times. Then a man stood up, and he said to him: 'What kept you form answering the first two times? I am not going to say anything but good to you, so and so (mentioning the name of a man from among them) has died and he is being detained (from entering Paradise) because of his debt."'  

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي جَنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ أَهَا هُنَا مِنْ بَنِي فُلاَنٍ أَحَدٌ ثَلاَثًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا مَنَعَكَ فِي الْمَرَّتَيْنِ الأُولَيَيْنِ أَنْ لاَ تَكُونَ أَجَبْتَنِي أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أُنَوِّهْ بِكَ إِلاَّ بِخَيْرٍ إِنَّ فُلاَنًا لِرَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ مَأْسُورًا بِدَيْنِهِ  

"We were with the Prophet at a funeral, and he said: 'I there anyone from banu so and so here? He said this three times. كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي جَنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ أَهَاهُنَا مِنْ بَنِي فُلَانٍ أَحَدٌ؟ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا مَنَعَكَ فِي الْمَرَّتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ أَنْ تَكُونَ أَجَبْتَنِي؟ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أُنَوِّهْ بِكَ إِلَّا لِخَيْرٍ إِنَّ فُلَانًا لِرَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ إِنَّهُ مَأْسُورٌ بِدَيْنِهِ قَالَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَهُ وَمَنْ يَتَحَزَّنُ لَهُ قَضَوْا عَنْهُ حَتَّى مَا جَاءَ أَحَدٌ يَطْلُبُهُ بِشَيْءٍ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed over a funeral, then after finishing, he said, "Is there anyone from the family of so-and-so here?" No one stood up. He repeated this three times, and then a man stood up and said, "I am, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "What prevented you from standing up the first two times? Indeed, I mentioned your name only for goodness, for so-and-so is a man who died burdened by his debt." The man said, "I have indeed seen his family and those who were saddened by his affairs." He said, "Then they should fulfill what is upon him until nothing remains."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى عَلَى جِنَازَةٍ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ «هَهُنَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ آلِ فُلَانٍ؟» قَالَ فَلَمْ يَقُمْ أَحَدٌ حَتَّى قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَقُومَ فِي الْمَرَّتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ؟ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أُنَوِّهْ بِاسْمِكَ إِلَّا لَخَيْرٍ إِنَّ فُلَانًا رَجُلٌ مَاتَ مَأْسُورٌ بِدَيْنِهِ» قَالَ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَهُ وَمَنْ يَحْزَنُ بِأَمْرِهِ قَالَ فَقَضَوْا مَا عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى مَا بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ  

[Machine] We were with the Prophet ﷺ at a funeral, and he said, "Oh! Here is someone from the family of so-and-so." He said this three times, and then a man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, what prevented you from responding to me the first two times? Indeed, I did not inform you about him except with something good. Verily, so-and-so, one of them, has died while burdened by a debt." And this has been narrated by more than one person from Ash-Sha`bi from Samurah. It has also been narrated from Ash-Sha`bi from the Prophet ﷺ as a Marfu` Hadith, and we do not know anyone who has reported it from Sam'an other than Sa'id bin Masruq.
