The Prophet ﷺ said: When three are on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their commander.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا خَرَجَ ثَلاَثَةٌ فِي سَفَرٍ فَلْيُؤَمِّرُوا أَحَدَهُمْ

The Prophet ﷺ said: When three are on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their commander. Nafi' said: We said to AbuSalamah: You are our commander.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا كَانَ ثَلاَثَةٌ فِي سَفَرٍ فَلْيُؤَمِّرُوا أَحَدَهُمْ قَالَ نَافِعٌ فَقُلْنَا لأَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَأَنْتَ أَمِيرُنَا

The Prophet ﷺ said: When three are on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their commander. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2608)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا خَرَجَ ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنْ سَفَرٍ فَلْيُؤَمِّرُوا أَحَدَهُمْ

The Prophet ﷺ said: When three are on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their commander. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2608)

"إِذا خرج ثَلاثَةٌ في سَفر فيلؤمِّروا أحدَهُمْ" .

When there are three persons, one of them should lead them. The one among them most worthy to act as Imam is one who is best versed in the Qur'an. (Using translation from Muslim 672a)

"إذا كانُوا ثلاثةً في سفر فليَؤُمَّهم أَحَدُهُم، وأحقُّهم بالإمامِة أقْرَؤُهُم" .

"إذا كانوا ثلاثةً فأمِّروا أحدَهم، وتَوكَّلُوا علَى الله وتَولَّفُوا".

"عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وهبٍ، عن عُمَرَ قال: إِذَا كَانوا ثلاثةً في سفر فَلْيُؤمِّروا عَلَيهم أحَدَهم، ذاكَ أَميرٌ أَمَّره رسول الله ﷺ ".
