Ziyad related to me from Malik from Abu'n Nadr, the mawla of Umar ibn Ubaydullah, that Abdullah ibn Unays al-Juhani said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ "Messenger of Allah, I am a man whose house is a long way away. Tell me one night so that I can stop my journey for it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Stop on the twenty-third night of Ramadan."

قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ شَاسِعُ الدَّارِ فَمُرْنِي لَيْلَةً أَنْزِلُ لَهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ انْزِلْ لَيْلَةَ ثَلاَثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a barren land where I can pray. So order me to bring it to the mosque and pray in it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Bring it down for twenty-three nights."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ لِي بَادِيَةً أُصَلِّي فِيهَا فَمُرْنِي بِلَيْلَةٍ أَنْزِلُهَا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَأُصَلِّيَ فِيهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «انْزِلْ لَيْلَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ»

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I will be on a journey and I will praise Allah, I will pray with it (my horse). So command me to pray in it (the mosque)."

He said, "Descend on the twenty-third night."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَكُونُ بِالرِّحْلَةِ وَأَنَا بِحَمْدِ اللهِ أُصَلِّي بِهَا فَمُرْنِي لَيْلَةً أَنْزِلُهَا لِهَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ أُصَلِّي فِيهِ قَالَ «انْزِلْ لَيْلَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ»

[AI] He said, "O Messenger of Allah, we often find ourselves in the desert and I offer my prayer there with the grace of Allah. So command me to descend one night of this month to the mosque so that I may pray in it." He said, "Descend on the twenty-third night and pray in it. And if you wish to continue until the end of the month, then do so. And if you wish to return to your family, then do so."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا نَكُونُ فِي بَادِيَتِنَا وَأَنَا بِحَمْدِ اللهِ أُصَلِّي بِهَا فَأْمُرْنِي بِلَيْلَةٍ مِنْ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ أَنْزِلُهَا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَأُصَلِّي فِيهِ فَقَالَ «انْزِلْ لَيْلَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ فَصَلِّهَا وَإِنْ أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تَسْتَتِمَّ إِلَى آخِرِ الشَّهْرِ فَافْعَلْ وَإِنْ أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تَرْجِعَ إِلَى أَهْلِكَ فَاصْنَعْ»

"انْزِلْ في ليلةِ ثلاثٍ وعشرين فصَلِّهَا، وإِن أَحببتَ أَن تَسْتَتِمَّ إِلَى آخِرِ الشَّهْرِ فَافْعَلْ، وإِنْ أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تَرْجِعَ إِلَى أَهْلِكَ بِلَيلٍ فَاصْنَعْ".

(قال: قلت: يا رسول الله إِنى أَكون بباديتى، وإِنِّى أُصَلِّى بهم فَمُرْنى بليلةٍ في هذا الشهر أَنزلهَا المسْجِد فأُصَلِّى فيه، فقال: انْزِل وذكره).
