[AI] I sat in a gathering with twenty companions of the Prophet ﷺ , and among them was a young man with a pleasant face, captivating eyes, and beautiful voice. Whenever they differed in something, they would seek his opinion, and he would give a decisive statement. This young man was Mu'adh bin Jabal. The next day, I came and found him praying near a banner. He raised his voice with a recitation from his prayer, and then he became silent. I said, "By Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah." He asked, "For Allah's sake?" I replied, "Yes, for Allah's sake." He said, "Then surely, those who love each other for the sake of Allah will be in the shade of Allah on a day when there is no shade except His shade." Then, he added, "They will be given chairs of light, and the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs will envy them for their gathering with their Lord." I also narrated this conversation to 'Ubada ibn As-Samit, and he said, "I will only narrate to you what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." My love for those who love me is justified, and my love for those who visit me is also justified, as well as my love for those who spend on me and my love for those who remain in contact with me. There is some difference of opinion regarding whether the term "those who remain in contact" refers to those who visit or those who remain in touch.

جَلَسْتُ مَجْلِسًا فِيهِ عِشْرُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَإِذَا فِيهِمْ شَابٌّ حَدِيثُ السِّنِّ حَسَنُ الْوَجْهِ أَدْعَجُ الْعَيْنَيْنِ أَغَرُّ الثَّنَايَا فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِي شَيْءٍ فَقَالَ قَوْلًا انْتَهَوْا إِلَى قَوْلِهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ جِئْتُ فَإِذَا هُوَ يُصَلِّي إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ قَالَ فَحَذَفَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ ثُمَّ احْتَبَى فَسَكَتَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ مِنْ جَلَالِ اللهِ قَالَ أَللَّهِ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَللَّهِ قَالَ فَإِنَّمِنَ الْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِي اللهِ فِيمَا أَحْسَبُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي ظِلِّ اللهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ ثُمَّ لَيْسَ فِي بَقِيَّتِهِ شَكٌّ يَعْنِي فِي بَقِيَّةِ الْحَدِيثِ يُوضَعُ لَهُمْ كَرَاسِي مِنْ نُورٍ يَغْبِطُهُمْ بِمَجْلِسِهِمْ مِنَ الرَّبِّ ﷻ النَّبِيُّونَ وَالصِّدِّيقُونَ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ قَالَ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ فَقَالَ لَا أُحَدِّثُكَ إِلَّا مَا سَمِعْتُ عَنْ لِسَانِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَتْ مَحَبَّتِي للمتزاورينَ في وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتي لِلْمُتَبَاذِلِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَصَافِينَ فِيَّ الْمُتَوَاصِلِينَ شَكَّ شُعْبَةُ فِي الْمُتَوَاصِلِينَ أَوِ الْمُتَزَاوِرِينَ

I conveyed this to Ubada bin As-Samit and he said, "I do not narrate to you except what I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, that he said, "My love for those who love each other is confirmed, as well as my love for those who spend on each other, my love for those who sincerely befriend each other, my love for those who visit each other, and my love for those who maintain contact with each other." Shu'bah expressed doubt regarding those who maintain contact and those who visit each other.

أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي ظِلِّ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَيْسَ فِي بَقِيَّتِهِ شَكٌّ «يُوضَعُ لَهُمْ كَرَاسِيٌّ مِنْ نُورٍ يَغْبِطُهُمْ بِمَجْلِسِهِمْ مِنَ الرَّبِّ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى النَّبِيُّونَ وَالصِّدِّيقُونَ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ» قَالَ فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ فَقَالَ لَا أُحَدِّثُكَ إِلَّا مَا سَمِعْتُ عَلَى لِسَانِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «حَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَبَاذِلِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَصَادِقِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَزَاوِرِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَوَاصِلِينَ فِيَّ» شَكَّ شُعْبَةُ فِي الْمُتَوَاصِلِينَ وَالْمُتَزَاوِرِينَ

He said, "Then He would draw my shoulder [closer to him] and say, 'Rejoice! If you are truthful, then I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Those who love one another for the sake of Allah will be in the shade of the Throne on the Day when there will be no shade except His shade. The prophets and martyrs will envy them for their position.'" Then he said, "So I went out and came to 'Ubada bin As-Samit and told him about the hadith of Mu'adh. 'Ubada bin As-Samit said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'My love is guaranteed for those who love one another for my sake, for those who advise one another for my sake, for those who visit one another for my sake, and for those who spend on one another for my sake, while they are upon pulpits of light. The prophets and the truthful ones will envy them for their position.'"

أَنْ أُصِيبَهَا مِنْكَ وَلَا قَرَابَةَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ قَالَ فَلِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ؟ قُلْتُ لِلَّهِ قَالَ فَجَذَبَ حُبْوَتِي ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبْشِرْ إِنْ كُنْتَ صَادِقًا فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْمُتَحَابُّونَ فِي اللَّهِ فِي ظِلِّ الْعَرْشِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ يَغْبِطُهُمْ بِمَكَانِهِمِ النَّبِيُّونَ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ فَأَتَيْتُ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ بِحَدِيثِ مُعَاذٍ فقَالَ عُبَادَةُ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَنْ رَبِّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى «حُقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي عَلَى الْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ وَحُقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي عَلَى الْمُتَنَاصِحِينَ فِيَّ وَحُقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي عَلَى الْمُتَزَاوِرِينَ فِيَّ وَحُقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي عَلَى الْمُتَبَاذِلِينَ فِيَّ وَهُمْ عَلَى مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُورٍ يَغْبِطُهُمُ النَّبِيُّونَ وَالصِّدِّيقُونَ بِمَكَانِهِمْ»

قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ فَقَعَدْتُ فِي حَلْقَةٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَأْثِرُ عَنِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَوَاصِلِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَزَاوِرِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَبَاذِلِينَ فِيَّ فَقُلْتُ مَنْ أَنْتَ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ ؟ قَالَ أَنَا عُبَادَةُ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Those who love each other for the sake of Allah will be in the shade of Allah's throne on the day when there will be no shade except His shade; they will be startled while people around them will not be startled, and they will fear while people around them will not fear." So I got up from there and went to Ubada ibn As-Samit, and Ubada said to me, "What is better than that? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'My love is due to those who love each other for my sake, and my love is due to those who sit with each other for my sake, and my love is due to those who visit each other for my sake.'"

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْمُتَحَابُّونَ فِي اللهِ فِي ظِلِّ عَرْشِ اللهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ يَفْزَعُ النَّاسُ وَلَا يَفْزَعُونَ وَيَخَافُ النَّاسُ وَلَا يَخَافُونَ» قَالَ فَقُمْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَأَتَيْتُ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ فَقَالَ عُبَادَةُ وَخَيْرٌ مِنهَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «حَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي للمُتَجَالِسِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَزَاوِرِينَ فِيَّ»

[AI] I heard from the mouth of Muhammad ﷺ that my love for those who love each other is true, and my love for those who maintain communication with me is true, and my love for those who meet me is true, or he said, my love for those who sacrifice for me is true.

"حقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِى للمُتَحَابِّينَ فِىَّ، وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِى لِلمُتَصَافِينَ فِىَّ، وحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِى لِلمُتَبَاذِلِينَ فِىَّ".

"قَال اللهُ -تَعَالى-: حَقّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ، وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلمُتَجَالِسِينَ فِيَّ، وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلمُتَزَاورِينَ فِيَّ".
