I heard Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) as saying: On the Day of Resurrection, the sun would draw so close to the people that there woum be left only a distance of one mile. Sulaim b. Amir said: By Allah, I do not know whether he meant by" mile" the mile of the (material) earth or dn instrument used for applying collyrium to the eye. (The Prophet is, however, reported to have said): The people would be submerged in perspiration according to their deeds, some up to their. knees, Some up to the waist and some would have the bridle of perspiration and, while saying this, Allah's Apostle ﷺ pointed his hand towards his mouth.  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تُدْنَى الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنَ الْخَلْقِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِنْهُمْ كَمِقْدَارِ مِيلٍ قَالَ سُلَيْمُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا يَعْنِي بِالْمِيلِ أَمَسَافَةَ الأَرْضِ أَمِ الْمِيلَ الَّذِي تُكْتَحَلُ بِهِ الْعَيْنُ قَالَ فَيَكُونُ النَّاسُ عَلَى قَدْرِ أَعْمَالِهِمْ فِي الْعَرَقِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى كَعْبَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى حَقْوَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُلْجِمُهُ الْعَرَقُ إِلْجَامًا قَالَ وَأَشَارَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى فِيهِ  

"I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'On the Day of Judgement, the sun will be drawn near the servants, until it has come a mile or two (away).'" Sulaim bin 'Amir said: " I do not know if it is miles that refer to distance on the land, or Al-Mil which is used to apply Kuhl for the eyes." He (the Prophet ﷺ): "The sun will melt them, until they will be in sweat according to their deeds. Among them one will be covered up to his ankles, and among them will be one who is covered up to his knees, and among them will be one who is covered up to his waist, and among them will be one who is bridled with it.' I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ indicating with his hand toward his mouth, meaning that one would be bridled with it.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2421)   

حَدَّثَنِي الْمِقْدَادُ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ أُدْنِيَتِ الشَّمْسُ مِنَ الْعِبَادِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ قِيدَ مِيلٍ أَوْ مِيلَيْنِ قَالَ فَتَصْهَرُهُمُ الشَّمْسُ فَيَكُونُونَ فِي الْعَرَقِ كَقَدْرِ أَعْمَالِهِمْ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ إِلَى عَقِبَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ إِلَى حَقْوَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُلْجِمُهُ إِلْجَامًا

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تُدْنِا الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنَ الْخَلْقِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِنْهُمْ كَمِقْدَارِ مِيلٍ» قَالَ سُلَيْمٌ وَاللهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا عَنَى بِالْمِيلِ؟ مَسَافَةً مِنَ الْأَرْضِ؟ أَمِ الْمِيلَ الَّذِي يُكْحَلُ بِهِ الْعَيْنُ؟ قَالَ «فَيَكُونُ النَّاسُ عَلَى قَدْرِ أَعْمَالِهِمْ فِي الْعَرَقِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى كَعْبَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَكُونُ إِلَى حِقْوَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُلجَمُ الْعَرَقَ إِلْجَامًا» وَأَشَارَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى فِيهِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "On the Day of Resurrection, the sun will draw near to the people until it is as close as the distance of two bows. Its heat will intensify and scorch them, and they will be in perspiration according to their deeds. Among them will be those whose perspiration will reach their ankles, some will have it reach their knees, some their waists, and some will be completely submerged in perspiration." He said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pointing with his hands towards his mouth." Ibrahim bin 'Urq narrated this from 'Umar bin Khath'am, from Sulaim, from Al-Miqdam.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «تَدْنُو الشَّمْسُ مِنَ النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ مِنَ النَّاسِ عَلَى قَدْرِ مِيلَيْنِ وَيَزْدَادَ فِي حَرِّهَا فَتَصْحَرَهُمْ فَيَكُونُوا فِي الْعَرَقِ بِقَدْرِ أَعْمَالِهِمْ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ الْعَرَقُ إِلَى كَعْبَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَأْخُذُهُ إِلَى حِقْوَيْهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُلْجِمُهُ الْعَرَقُ إِلْجَامًا» قَالَ وَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُشِيرُ بِيَدَيْهِ إِلَى فِيهِ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عِرْقٍ هَكَذَا رَوَاهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ خَثْعَمٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمٍ عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ  

"إِذا كانَ يَوْمُ القيامةِ أُدْنيت الشَّمْسُ مِنَ العبادِ حتَّى تكونَ قيدَ مِيلٍ أو اثْنين فتصْهَرُهُم الشَّمْسُ، فيكونُونَ في العَرَق كقَدرِ أعمالِهِم، فَمِنْهُمْ من يأخُذُه إِلى رُكُبَتيِه، ومِنْهم مَنْ يأخُذُه إِلى حَقْويه، ومِنْهم مَنْ يُلجِمُه إِلجامًا" (الحقوُ معقد الإِزار).  

"تَدْنُو الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ القِيَامةِ مِنَ الخلق حتى تكونَ مِنهُمْ كَمِقْدَار ميلٍ

فيكونُ الناسُ على قدرِ أَعمَالِهِم في العَرَقِ، فَمِنهُم مَن يكونُ إِلى كَعْبَيه، ومِنْهُم مَن يكونُ إِلى رُكبتيهِ، ومنهم من يكونُ إِلى حَقوَيهُ، وَمِنْهُم مَنْ يُلجِمُهُ العرقُ إِلجَامًا".
