"He used to ride at a moderately fast pace, and when he came upon some open space he would gallop."
عَنْ مَسِيرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
"He used to ride at a moderately fast pace, and when he came upon some open space he would gallop."
عَنْ مَسِيرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
Usama was asked in my presence, "How was the speed of (the camel of) Messenger of Allah ﷺ while departing from ʿArafat during the Hajjatul Wadaʿ?" Usama replied, "The Prophet ﷺ proceeded on with a modest pace, and when there was enough space he would (make his camel) go very fast."
سُئِلَ أُسَامَةُ وَأَنَا جَالِسٌ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسِيرُ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ حِينَ دَفَعَ قَالَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ قَالَ هِشَامٌ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
Usama bin Zaid was asked at what pace the Prophet ﷺ rode during Hajjat-ul-Wadaʿ "He rode at a medium pace, but when he came upon an open way he would go at full pace."
عَنْ مَسِيرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَ فَكَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
In my presence, Usama was asked about the speed of the Prophet ﷺ during his Hajj. He replied, "It was Al-ʿAnaq (i.e. moderate easy speed) and if he encountered an open space, he used to increase his speed."
عَنْ سَيْرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي حَجَّتِهِ فَقَالَ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ
Hisham bin ‘Urwah reported on the authority of his father Usamah bin Zaid was asked when I was sitting along with him, how did the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ travel during the Farewell Pilgrimage when he proceeded from ‘Arafah to Al Muzdalifah? He replied he was travelling at a quick pace and when he found an opening he urged on his Camel. Hisham said “Nass(running or urging on the Camel) is above ‘anaq(going at a quick pace).”
أَنَّهُ قَالَ سُئِلَ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ وَأَنَا جَالِسٌ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسِيرُ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ حِينَ دَفَعَ قَالَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ قَالَ هِشَامٌ النَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
"Usamah bin Zaid was asked - while I was sitting with him: 'How did the Messenger of Allah travel during the Farewell Pilgrimage when he moved on?' He said: 'He rode at a moderate pace, and if he found some open space, he would gallop.'"
سُئِلَ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ وَأَنَا جَالِسٌ مَعَهُ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسِيرُ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ حِينَ دَفَعَ قَالَ كَانَ يُسَيِّرُ نَاقَتَهُ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ
“How did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ travel when he departed from ‘Arafat?” He said: “He moved at a quick pace, and when he reached an open space he would make his camel run.”
أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسِيرُ حِينَ دَفَعَ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ قَالَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ وَالنَّصُّ يَعْنِي فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
[AI] About the journey of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and I was a witness, he said: "His way of walking was like that of a camel, and when he found a gap, he would pass through it and I would be following behind him."
عَنْ سَيْرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَأَنَا شَاهِدٌ قَالَ كَانَ سَيْرُهُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ وَأَنَا رَدِيفُهُ
[AI] About the Prophet's ﷺ journey from Arafah, it is said that he would walk with a swaying neck. And whenever he found a gap, he would straighten himself up, meaning he would walk upright.
عَنْ مَسِيرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حِينَ دَفَعَ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ فَقَالَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ يَعْنِي فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa that his father said, "I was sitting with Usama ibn Zayd when some one asked him, 'How did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ travel when he went from Arafa to Muzdalifa during the farewell hajj?' and he replied, 'He went at a medium pace, but when he found a gap (in the crowds) he speeded up.' "
وَأَنَا جَالِسٌ مَعَهُ كَيْفَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ حِينَ دَفَعَ قَالَ كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ قَالَ مَالِكٌ قَالَ هِشَامٌ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ
[AI] He heard Osama asking me, "How was the Prophet ﷺ walking when he left Arafat?" I replied, "He was walking with his neck inclined, and when he encountered a gap, he would walk with his head up above the neck."
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أُسَامَةَ يَسْأَلُ وَأَنَا جَنْبَهُ كَيْفَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَسِيرُ إِذَا دَفَعَ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ؟ قَالَ «كَانَ يَسِيرُ الْعَنَقَ فَإِذَا وَجَدَ فَجْوَةً نَصَّ وَالنَّصُّ فَوْقَ الْعَنَقِ»
