When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his back from the rukd' he pronounced: Allah listened to him who praised Him. O Allah! our Lord! unto Thee be praise that would fill the heavens and the earth and fill that which will please Thee besides them.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَفَعَ ظَهْرَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ بَعْدُ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his head after bowing, he said: Allah listens to him who praises Him. O Allah, our lord, to Thee be the praise in the heavens and in all the earth, and all that it please Thee to create afterwards. Abu Dawud said: Sufyan al-Thawri and Shu’bah b. al-Hajjaj reported on authority of Ubaid b. al-Hasan: There is no mention of the words “after bowing” in this tradition. Sufyan said: we met al-shaikh ‘Ubaid b. al-Hasan; he did not say the words “bowing” in it. Abu dawud said: Shu’bah narrated this from Abi ‘Ismah, from al-A’mash, on the authority of ‘Ubaid, saying: “after bowing”.

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى يَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ يَقُولُ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ بَعْدُ

"When Messenger of Allah would raise his head from bowing he would say: (Sami Allahi liman hamidal. Rabba na lakal-hamd, mil'as-samawati wa mil'al-ardi wa mil'a ma bainahuma wa mil'a ma shi'ia min shay'in ba'd) 'Allah listens to those who praise Him. O our Lord! And to You is the praise that fills the heavens and fills the earth, and fills what is between them, and fills whatever there is beyond that You will.' He said: There are narrations on this topic from Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, Ibn Abi Awfa, Abu Juhaifa, and Abu Sa'eed.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى وَأَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bowed, he said: "Allahumma laka rakʿatu was laka aslamtu wa bika amantu, khashaʿa laka samʿi wa basri wa ʿizami wa mukhi wa ʿasabi (O Allah, to You I have bowed and to You I have submitted and in You I have believed. My hearing, sight, bones, brain and sinews are humbled before You)."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَعِظَامِي وَمُخِّي وَعَصَبِي

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood to offer a voluntary prayer, he would say when he bowed: "Allahumma laka rak'atu wa bika amantu wa laka aslamtu wa alayka tawwakaltu, anta Rabbi, khasha'a sam'i wa basri wa lahmi wa dammi wa mukhi wa 'asabi Lillahi Rabbil-'Alamin ( O Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I believe, to You I have submitted and in You I put my trust. You are my Lord. My hearing, my sight, my flesh, my blood, my brain and my sinews are humbled before Allah, the Lord of the Worlds)."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ يُصَلِّي تَطَوُّعًا يَقُولُ إِذَا رَكَعَ اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَلَحْمِي وَدَمِي وَمُخِّي وَعَصَبِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

When the Prophet ﷺ said: "Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him),' he said: "Allahumma Rabbana wa lakal-hamd, mil'as-samawati wa mil'al-ardi wa mil'ama shi'ta min shai'in ba'd ( O Allah, our Lord, to You be the Praise, filling the heavens, filling the Earth, and filling whatever else You will.)"

O Allah! O our Lord, to You is the praise as much as fills the heavens, as much as fills the earth and as much as You will after that).’”

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ بَعْدُ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his head after bowing, he said: O Allah! our Lord, to Thee be the praise that would fill all the heavens and the earth, and all that it pleases Thee besides (them). O, thou art worthy of praise and glory, most worthy of what a servant says, and we all are Thy servants, no one can withhold what Thou givest or give what Thou withholdest, and riches cannot avail a wealthy person against Thee. كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ «رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ أَهْلَ الثَّنَاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ أَحَقُّ مَا قَالَ الْعَبْدُ وَكُلُّنَا لَكَ عَبْدٌ اللَّهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ»

[AI] The translation into English is as follows:

"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would raise his head from bowing, he would say, 'Allah hears whoever praises Him. Our Lord, all praise is due to You, filling the heavens, filling the earth, filling whatever is between them, and filling whatever You will after that.' It was asked to Abdullah, 'Do you hold on to it?' He said, 'No.' And it was asked to him, 'Do you say this in obligatory prayers?' He said, 'Perhaps.' And he said, 'All of it is good.'"

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ «سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ» قِيلَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ تَأْخُذُ بِهِ؟ قَالَ لَا وَقِيلَ لَهُ تَقُولُ هَذَا فِي الْفَرِيضَةِ؟ قَالَ عَسَى وَقَالَ كُلُّهُ طَيِّبٌ

ʿO Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord. My hearing my sight, my brain, my bones and my sinews submit to You. Whatever my feet carry is for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.”

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعَظْمِي وَعَصَبِي وَمَا اسْتَقَلَّتْ بِهِ قَدَمِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»

[AI] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would perform the rukoo' (bowing position), he would say, "O Allah, for you I have bowed and in You I believe, and to You I have submitted. My hearing, sight, mind, bones, and nerves all humble themselves for You." And when he would raise his head from the rukoo', he would say, "Allah hears the one who praises Him, our Lord, and to You belongs all praise, filling the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and filling whatever You will after that."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعِظَامِي وَعَصَبِي » وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ قَالَ «سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ»

When the Prophet ﷺ said: "Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him),' he said: "Allahumma Rabbana wa lakal-hamd, mil'as-samawati wa mil'al-ardi wa mil'ama shi'ta min shai'in ba'd ( O Allah, our Lord, to You be the Praise, filling the heavens, filling the Earth, and filling whatever else You will.)" [AI] "That the Prophet ﷺ used to say in his prostration, 'O Allah, to You I have prostrated and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord, my face has prostrated to the One who created it and formed it, and opened its hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators.' And when he bowed, he said, 'O Allah, for You I have bowed, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. Upon You I have relied, You are my Lord. My hearing, sight, blood, brain, bones, and nerves have humbled themselves for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.' Then he raised his head from the bowing position and said, 'Allah has heard the one who praised Him, our Lord, to You belongs all praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever You will after.'"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي سُجُودِهِ «اللهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَأَنْتَ رَبِّي سَجَدَ وَجْهِي لِلَّذِي خَلَقَهُ وَصَوَّرَهُ وَشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرَهُ تَبَارَكَ اللهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ» وَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَدَمِي وَمُخِّي وَعَظْمِي وَعَصَبِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ» ثُمَّ يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ فَيَقُولُ «سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ»

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bowed, he said: "Allahumma laka rakʿatu was laka aslamtu wa bika amantu, khashaʿa laka samʿi wa basri wa ʿizami wa mukhi wa ʿasabi (O Allah, to You I have bowed and to You I have submitted and in You I have believed. عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِنَحْوٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَدَمِي وَلَحْمِي وَعَظْمِي وَعَصَبِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood to offer a voluntary prayer, he would say when he bowed: "Allahumma laka rak'atu wa bika amantu wa laka aslamtu wa alayka tawwakaltu, anta Rabbi, khasha'a sam'i wa basri wa lahmi wa dammi wa mukhi wa 'asabi Lillahi Rabbil-'Alamin ( O Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I believe, to You I have submitted and in You I put my trust. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ يُصَلِّي تَطَوُّعًا يَقُولُ إِذَا رَكَعَ «اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ جَمِيعُ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَلَحْمِي وَدَمِي وَمُخِّي وَعَصَبِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»

[AI] Narrated from the Prophet ﷺ : When he began the prayer and mentioned supplications, and He said in it, and when he bowed he said, "O Allah, I bow to You, and in You I believe, and to You I submit. My hearing, sight, and bones humble to You. I think he said, "My mind and nerves".

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ كَانَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَقَالَ فِيهِ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَعِظَامِي أَظُنُّهُ قَالَ وَمُخِّي وَعَصَبِي

ʿO Allah, to You I have bowed, in You I have believed and to You I have submitted. You are my Lord. My hearing my sight, my brain, my bones and my sinews submit to You. Whatever my feet carry is for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 960)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا ابْتَدَأَ الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَفِيهِ قَالَ وَكَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ أَنْتَ رَبِّي خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي وَعَظْمِي وَمَا اسْتَقَلَّتْ بِهِ قَدَمِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

[AI] The messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he raised his head: "Allah has heard the one who praised Him. Our Lord, to You is all praise, the filling of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and the filling of whatever You will after that."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his head after bowing, he said: Allah listens to him who praises Him. O Allah, our lord, to Thee be the praise in the heavens and in all the earth, and all that it please Thee to create afterwards. Abu Dawud said: Sufyan al-Thawri and Shu’bah b. al-Hajjaj reported on authority of Ubaid b. al-Hasan: There is no mention of the words “after bowing” in this tradition. Sufyan said: we met al-shaikh ‘Ubaid b. al-Hasan; he did not say the words “bowing” in it. Abu dawud said: Shu’bah narrated this from Abi ‘Ismah, from al-A’mash, on the authority of ‘Ubaid, saying: “after bowing”. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 846)

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ اللهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ

"اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَلَكَ أسْلَمْتُ، خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمعْي وَبَصَرِى، وَمُخِّي، وَعَظْمِى، وَعَصَبِى، وَشَعْرِى، وَبَشَرِى، وَمَا اسْتَقَلَّتْ بِه قَدَمِى".

"عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا رَكَعَ فِى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكْعتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، ولَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وأَنْتَ رَبِّى، خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِى وَبَصرِى، وَلَحْمِى، وَدَمِى، وَعَصَبِى وعَظْمِى، ومُخِّى وَمَا اسْتَقَلَّتْ بِهِ قَدَمَاى لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ، فَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأسَهُ قَالَ: سَمِعَ الله لِمنْ حَمِدَهُ، رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَواتِ والأَرْضِ وَمَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَئٍ بَعْدُ، فَإِذَا سَجَدَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ سَجَدتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، ولَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وأَنْتَ رَبّى، سَجَدَ وجْهِى لِلَّذِى خَلَقَهُ وصَوَّرَهُ، وشَقَّ سَمْعَهُ وَبَصَرهُ، تَبَارَكَ الله رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ".

"أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوع قَالَ: سَمِعَ الله لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ رَبّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلءَ الأرْضِ، وَملءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ بَعْد".

"عَنِ ابْن عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَالَ: سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَه، قَالَ: "اللَّهُمَّ رَبّنا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْء السَّمَواتِ وَالأَرْض وَمِلْء مَا شئْتَ منْ شَىْءٍ بَعْدُ".
