I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night and he started reciting al-Baqara. I thought that he would bow at the end of one hundred verses, but he proceeded on; I then thought that he would perhaps recite the whole (surah) in a rak'ah, but he proceeded and I thought he would perhaps bow on completing (this surah). He then started al-Nisa', and recited it; he then started Al-i-'Imran and recited leisurely. And when he recited the verses which referred to the Glory of Allah, he glorified (by saying Subhan Allah-Glory to my Lord the Great), and when he recited the verses which tell (how the Lord) is to be begged, he (the Holy Prophet) would then beg (from Him), and when he recited the verses dealing with protection from the Lord, he sought (His) protection and would then bow and say: Glory be to my Mighty Lord; his bowing lasted about the same length of time as his standing (and then on returning to the standing posture after ruku') he would say: Allah listened to him who praised Him, and he would then stand about the same length of time as he had spent in bowing. He would then prostrate himself and say: Glory be to my Lord most High, and his prostration lasted nearly the same length of time as his standing. In the hadith transmitted by Jarir the words are:" He (the Holy Prophet) would say:" Allah listened to him who praised Him, our Lord, to Thee i the praise."

[Machine] I prayed with the Prophet ﷺ one night, and he began reciting Surah Al-Baqarah. He recited until he reached the verse of one hundred, at which point I thought he would bow. However, he continued reciting until he reached the verse of two hundred, and again I thought he would bow. But he continued reciting until he completed the Surah. I then thought he would bow, but he said: "Then he began reciting Surah An-Nisa. He recited it, then he bowed. In his bowing, he said: "Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great." His bowing was the same length as his standing. Then he prostrated and his prostration was as long as his bowing. In his prostration, he said: "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High." Whenever he passed by a verse of mercy, he would ask for mercy, and whenever he passed by a verse of punishment, he sought refuge (with Allah), and whenever he passed by a verse in which Allah was glorified, he would glorify (Allah).

[Machine] "I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a night in Ramadan in a room made of palm leaves. He stood up, raised his voice saying, "Allah is the greatest, the possessor of might, dominion, magnificence, and grandeur." Then, he began the recitation with Surah Al-Baqarah, and I thought he would stop at one hundred verses, but he continued until he reached two hundred. Then, he began the recitation of Surah Al-Imran, and he recited it. After that, he began the recitation of Surah An-Nisa and recited it. He would not pass by a verse of admonition without pausing to seek refuge with Allah. Then, he performed a rukoo' (bowing) similar to his standing position, saying, "Subhan Rabbiyal Azeem," which he would repeat. Then, he raised his head and said, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him. O our Lord, all praise is due to You." He repeated this statement, similar to his rukoo'. Then, he prostrated as he did in his standing position, saying, "Subhan Rabbiyal A'la." He would say, between the two prostrations, "O Lord, forgive me." He did not pray more than four units of prayer, similar to the Tahajjud prayer, from the beginning of the night until the end of it, until Bilal came and called the Adhan for Fajr prayer."

Then he prostrated and made his prostration lengthy, saying: "Subhan Rabbial-A'la, Subhan Rabbial-A'la, Subhan Rabbial-A'la (Glory be to my Lord Most High, Glory be to my Lord Most High, Glory be to my Lord Most High). And he did not come to any verse that spoke of fear or glorifying Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, but he said something appropriate." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1133)

"I prayed with the Prophet ﷺ one night. He started to recite Al-Baqarah and I thought, 'he will bow when he reaches one hundred,' but he carried on. I thought, 'he is going to recite the whole surah in one rak'ah,' but he carried on. He started to recite An-Nisa' and recited (the whole surah), then he started to recite Al Imran and recited (the whole surah), reciting slowly. When he reached a verse that spoke of glorifying Allah (SWT), he glorified Him. When he reached a verse that spoke of supplication, he made supplication. When he reached a verse that spoke of seeking refuge with Allah, he sought refuge with Him. Then he bowed and said: 'Subhana Rabbiyal-Azim.(Glory be to my Lord Almighty)', and he bowed for almost as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head and said: 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears those who praise Him)', and he stood for almost as long as he had bowed. Then he prostrated and started to say: Subhana Rabbiyal-'Ala (Glory be to my Lord Most High),' and he prostrated for almost as long as he had bowed.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1664)

In the hadith transmitted by Jarir the words are:" He (the Holy Prophet) would say:" Allah listened to him who praised Him, our Lord, to Thee i the praise." (Using translation from Muslim 772)
