A man ate in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his left hand, so he said, *“Eat with your right hand.”*He said, “I am not able.” He said, “May you not be able ˹to˺”, and nothing prevented him except arrogance. Then he could not raise it to his mouth.

مسلم:٢٠٢١ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنِي إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكْوَعِ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ

أَنَّ رَجُلاً أَكَلَ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِشِمَالِهِ فَقَالَ: «كُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ»، قَالَ: لاَ أَسْتَطِيعُ، قَالَ: «لاَ اسْتَطَعْتَ» مَا مَنَعَهُ إِلاَّ الْكِبْرُ، قَالَ فَمَا رَفَعَهَا إِلَى فِيهِ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ saw a man eating with his left hand, so he said, "eat with your right hand." The man replied, "I cannot." The Prophet ﷺ said, "you are not able?" The man replied, "no."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw Busrah ibn Ra'i al-A'iri eating with his left hand, so he said, "Eat with your right hand." He replied, "I cannot." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You cannot?" The man said, "Then my right hand has become paralyzed."

الدارمي:٢٠٧٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ

أَبْصَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بُسْرَ بْنَ رَاعِي الْعِيرِ يَأْكُلُ بِشِمَالِهِ فَقَالَ «كُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ» قَالَ لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ قَالَ «لَا اسْتَطَعْتَ» قَالَ فَمَا وَصَلَتْ يَمِينُهُ إِلَى فِيهِ

ذِكْرُ مَا اسْتَجَابَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا لِصَفِيِّهِ ﷺ مَا دَعَا عَلَى بَعْضِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي بَعْضِ الْأَحْوَالِ

ابن حبّان:٦٥١٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ

Eat with your right hand. He said: I cannot do that, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: May you not be able to do that. It was vanity that prevented him from doing it, and he could not raise it (the right hand) up to his mouth. (Using translation from Muslim 2021)

[Machine] A man used to eat with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his left hand, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Eat with your right hand." He replied, "I am unable to." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "Then you cannot raise it to your mouth."

الطبراني:٦٢٣٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ الرَّازِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
