Their liquor had been prepared from dry dates or fresh dates when the announcer made the announcement. He (Abu Talha) said to me: Go out and find out (what the announcement is). I got out (and found) an announcer making this announcement: Behold, liquor has been declared unlawful. He said: The liquor (was spilt and) flawed in the lanes of Medina. Abu Talha said to me: Go out and Spill it, and I spilt it. They said or some of them said: Such and such were killed, such and such were killed for (the wine) had been in their stomachs. He (the narrator) said. I do not know whether it is the narration transmitted by Anas, (or by someone else). Then Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, revealed:" There shall be no sin (imputed) unto those who have believed and done good works for what they may have eaten as long as they fear (Allah) and believe and do good works" (v. 93).

I was the butler of the people in the house of Abu Talha, and in those days drinks were prepared from dates. Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered somebody to announce that alcoholic drinks had been prohibited. Abu Talha ordered me to go out and spill the wine. I went out and spilled it, and it flowed in the streets of Medina. Some people said, "Some people were killed and wine was still in their stomachs." On that the Divine revelation came:-- "On those who believe And do good deeds There is no blame For what they ate (in the past)." (5.93)

The alcoholic drink which was spilled was Al-Fadikh. I used to offer alcoholic drinks to the people at the residence of Abu Talha. Then the order of prohibiting Alcoholic drinks was revealed, and the Prophet ordered somebody to announce that: Abu Talha said to me, "Go out and see what this voice (this announcement ) is." I went out and (on coming back) said, "This is somebody announcing that alcoholic beverages have been prohibited." Abu Talha said to me, "Go and spill it (i.e. the wine)," Then it (alcoholic drinks) was seen flowing through the streets of Medina. At that time the wine was Al-Fadikh. The people said, "Some people (Muslims) were killed (during the battle of Uhud) while wine was in their stomachs." So Allah revealed: "On those who believe and do good deeds there is no blame for what they ate (in the past)." (5.93)

[Machine] I used to serve the people on the day when alcohol was prohibited. Abu Talha had gathered some of his companions, and a man came and said, "Indeed, alcohol has been prohibited." Abu Talha told me to go out and see. So I went out and looked, and I heard a caller announcing, "Indeed, alcohol has been prohibited." I informed Abu Talha, and he said, "Go and pour it out." So I went and poured it out. Some of them said, "Suhail ibn Bayda has been killed, and she was pregnant with his child." Then Allah revealed the verse from the beginning of verse 93 of Surah al-Ma'idah: "There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have eaten." And their alcohol that day was the juice of grapes, dates, and barley.

[Machine] I used to be a bartender at the house of Abu Talha. He said, "The prohibition of alcohol has been revealed." He then ordered a caller to make an announcement, and the caller said, "Abu Talha, come out and see what this is." So I went out and said, "This is a caller announcing, 'Indeed, alcohol has been prohibited.'" He told me to go and pour it out. I poured it out in the streets of Madinah. Their alcohol on that day was called "al-Fadeekh" (a type of date wine). Some people said, "A people were killed while it was still in their stomachs." So Allah revealed the verse, "There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have eaten [in the past] if they fear Allah and believe" (Quran 5:93).
