Messenger of Allah ﷺ was presented with two cups one containing wine and the other milk on the night of his night journey at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the milk. Gabriel said, "Thanks to Allah Who guided you to the Fitra (i.e. Islam); if you had taken the wine, your followers would have gone astray.  

أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ بِإِيلِيَاءَ بِقَدَحَيْنِ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِمَا فَأَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ لِلْفِطْرَةِ لَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ  

On the night Messenger of Allah ﷺ was taken on a night journey (Miraj) two cups, one containing wine and the other milk, were presented to him at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the cup of milk. Gabriel said, "Praise be to Allah Who guided you to Al-Fitra (the right path); if you had taken (the cup of) wine, your nation would have gone astray."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُتِيَ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ بِإِيلِيَاءَ بِقَدَحَيْنِ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِمَا ثُمَّ أَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ لِلْفِطْرَةِ وَلَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ  

"On the night on which he was taken on the Night Journey (Al-Isra'), two cups, of wine and milk, were brought to the Messenger of Allah [SAW]. He looked at them and chose the milk. Jibril, peace be upon him, said to him: 'Praise be to Allah Who has guided you to the Fitrah. If you have chosen the wine, your Ummah would have gone astray.'"  

أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ بِقَدَحَيْنِ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِمَا فَأَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ لِلْفِطْرَةِ لَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ  

"On the night on which he was taken on the Night Journey (Al-Isra'), two cups, of wine and milk, were brought to the Messenger of Allah [SAW]. He looked at them and chose the milk. Jibril, peace be upon him, said to him: 'Praise be to Allah Who has guided you to the Fitrah. If you have chosen the wine, your Ummah would have gone astray.'" قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي أُتِيتُ بِقَدَحَيْنِ قَدَحِ لَبَنٍ وَقَدَحِ خَمْرٍ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِمَا فَأَخَذْتُ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ لِلْفِطْرَةِ لَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ بِإِيلِيَاءَ بِقَدَحَيْنِ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِمَا ثُمَّ أَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ جِِبْرَائِِيلُ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ لِلْفِطْرَةِ لَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ»  

Praise is due to Allah Who guided you to the true nature; had you taken the one containing wine, Your Umma would have gone astray. (Using translation from Muslim 168b)   

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ «أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ بِقَدَحَيْنِ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِمَا ثُمَّ أَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ هُدِيتَ الْفِطْرَةَ وَلَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ»  

[Machine] When water, then wine, then milk were presented to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , he took the milk and said to him, Jibril, "You have chosen the fitrah (natural disposition). With it, every living creature is punished. If you had taken the wine, you would have gone astray and your nation would have also gone astray. And he pointed to the valley known as Hellfire. So I looked into it and saw that it was blazing.  

لَمَّا عُرِضَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمِ الْمَاءُ ثُمَّ الْخَمْرُ ثُمَّ اللَّبَنُ أَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ أَصَبْتَ أَخَذْتَ الْفِطْرَةَ وَبِهَا عُذِّبَتْ كُلُّ دَابَّةٍ وَلَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَيْتَ وَغَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ وَكُنْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِ هَذِهِ وَأَشَارَ إِلَى الْوَادِي الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي جَهَنَّمَ فَنَظَرْتُ فِيهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ يَلْتَهِبُ
