I asked 'A'isha about incantation. She said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ had granted its sanction to the members of a family of the Ansar for incantation in curing every type of poison.
رَخَّصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَهْلِ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فِي الرُّقْيَةِ مِنْ كُلِّ ذِي حُمَةٍ
'A'isha reported that Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted sanction to the members of a family of the Ansar for incantation (for removing the effects) of the poison of the scorpion.
رَخَّصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَهْلِ بَيْتٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فِي الرُّقْيَةِ مِنَ الْحُمَةِ
The dust of our ground with the saliva of any one of us would serve as a means whereby our illness would be cured with the sanction of Allah. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Abu Shaiba and Zubair with a slight variation of wording.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا اشْتَكَى الإِنْسَانُ الشَّىْءَ مِنْهُ أَوْ كَانَتْ بِهِ قَرْحَةٌ أَوْ جَرْحٌ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِإِصْبَعِهِ هَكَذَا وَوَضَعَ سُفْيَانُ سَبَّابَتَهُ بِالأَرْضِ ثُمَّ رَفَعَهَا بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا بِرِيقَةِ بَعْضِنَا لِيُشْفَى بِهِ سَقِيمُنَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ يُشْفَى وَقَالَ زُهَيْرٌ لِيُشْفَى سَقِيمُنَا
'A'isha reported that Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded the use of incantation for curing the influence of an evil eye.
أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُمَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْبَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَأْمُرُهَا أَنْ تَسْتَرْقِيَ مِنَ الْعَيْنِ
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Mis'ar with the same chain of transmitters.
حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ
Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) commanded me that I should make use of incantation for curing the influence of an evil eye.
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أَسْتَرْقِيَ مِنَ الْعَيْنِ
Anas b. Malik reported in connection with incantation that he had been granted sanction (to use incantation as a remedy) for the sting of the scorpion and for curing small pustules and dispelling the influence of an evil eye.
رُخِّصَ فِي الْحُمَةِ وَالنَّمْلَةِ وَالْعَيْنِ
Anas reported that Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him sanction to use incantation (as a cure) for the, influence of an evil eye, the sting of the scorpion and small pustules.
رَخَّصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الرُّقْيَةِ مِنَ الْعَيْنِ وَالْحُمَةِ وَالنَّمْلَةِ وَفِي حَدِيثِ سُفْيَانَ يُوسُفُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ
Umm Salama, the wife of Allah's Apostle ﷺ, reported that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a small girl in the house of Umm Salama that he had been seeing on her face black stains and told her that that was due to the infiluence of an evil eye, and he asked that she should be cured with the help of incantation (hoping) that her face should become spotles.
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِجَارِيَةٍ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَأَى بِوَجْهِهَا سَفْعَةً فَقَالَ بِهَا نَظْرَةٌ فَاسْتَرْقُوا لَهَا يَعْنِي بِوَجْهِهَا صُفْرَةً
What is this that I see the children of my brother lean? Are they not fed properly? She said: No, but they fall under the influence of an evil eve. He said: Use incantation She recited (the words of incantation before him), whereupon he (by approving them) said: Yes, use this incantation for them.
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ رَخَّصَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لآلِ حَزْمٍ فِي رُقْيَةِ الْحَيَّةِ وَقَالَ لأَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ مَا لِي أَرَى أَجْسَامَ بَنِي أَخِي ضَارِعَةً تُصِيبُهُمُ الْحَاجَةُ قَالَتْ لاَ وَلَكِنِ الْعَيْنُ تُسْرِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ ارْقِيهِمْ قَالَتْ فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ ارْقِيهِمْ
I heard Jabir b. 'Abdullah as saying that the scorpion stung one of us as we were sitting with Messenger of Allah (may peace upon him). A person said: Messenger of Allah, I use incantation (for curing the effect. of sting), whereupon he said: He who is competent amongst you to benefit his brother should do so.
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ أَرْخَصَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي رُقْيَةِ الْحَيَّةِ لِبَنِي عَمْرٍو قَالَ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ وَسَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ لَدَغَتْ رَجُلاً مِنَّا عَقْرَبٌ وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرْقِي قَالَ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Juraij with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.
أَنَّهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَرْقِيهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ أَرْقِي
Messenger of Allah, you forbade to practise incantation, whereas I employ it for curing the sting of the scorpion, whereupon he said: He who amongst you is capable of employing it as a means to do good should do that.
كَانَ لِي خَالٌ يَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ فَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الرُّقَى قَالَ فَأَتَاهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى وَأَنَا أَرْقِي مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ فَقَالَ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters.
عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ
We know an incantation which we use for curing the sting of the scorpion but you have prohibited it. They recited (the words of incantation) before him, whereupon he said: I do not see any harm (in it), so he who amongst you is competent to do good to his brother should do that.
نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الرُّقَى فَجَاءَ آلُ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ كَانَتْ عِنْدَنَا رُقْيَةٌ نَرْقِي بِهَا مِنَ الْعَقْرَبِ وَإِنَّكَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الرُّقَى قَالَ فَعَرَضُوهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَا أَرَى بَأْسًا مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنْفَعَ أَخَاهُ فَلْيَنْفَعْهُ
