Not paying back debts is wrongdoing
from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he stood among them and mentioned to them that striving in the path of Allah and believing in Allah are the best of deeds. A man stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if I am killed in the path of Allah, will my sins be expiated for me?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: “Yes, if you are killed in the path of Allah while you are patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating.”
Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “What did you say?” He said, “What do you think if I am killed in the path of Allah, will my sins be expiated for me?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Yes, while you are patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, except for debt, for Jibril ᴬˢ told me this.”
A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was on the pulpit and said: Do you think if I am killed in the way of Allah... (except this difference in its beginning, the rest of the tradition is the same as the previous one).
" A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he was sitting on the pulpit.... He said: What do you find if I strike with the sword?" (The rest of the tradition is the same as the previous one.)
All the sins of a Shahid (martyr) are forgiven except debt.
Death in the way of Allah blots out everything except debt.
